What is the difference between the different models?

Austin Air units come in two sizes, junior and standard. The standard units cover a larger area and have casters. In addition, all sizes are available in one of three different types : Healthmate, Allergy Machine, and Plus (superblend). The Healthmate unit is by far the most popular and the best unit for most applications. The Allergy Machine is preferred if a customer has a tobacco smoke situation or needs a unit lighter in weight. The Plus/Superblend unit is preferred if a customer needs extra chemical filtration. Please call us if you need further information on the differences between these units.

How many filters are there?

The metal grill on the outside of the unit acts as a crude and basic filter. However, inside the unit there is a high quality HEPA/Carbon combined filter with a thin prefilter wrapped around it. This "filter cartridge" is oftentimes considered one very large filter and is typically changed all together. We do sell the thin prefilter separately in case it gets wet, tears, or for some other reason needs to be changed separately from the main HEPA/carbon filter - however, this should not be typical. In the end, most customers find that they simply replace one filter every approximately 4 to 5 years.

What is the most popular color?

The most popular color by far is Sandstone - which is a light tannish / greyish color which matches many decors.

Does this unit give off any ozone?

As this unit is a traditional HEPA filter unit - this unit would emit no or neglible ozone.
