Air-O-Swiss humidifiers have quickly become popular solutions for maintaining a more comfortable indoor environment during the dry winter months. Air-O-Swiss produces a variety of portable tabletop humidifiers that are designed with innovation, attractiveness, and an easy user experience in mind. If you're considering purchasing an Air-O-Swiss humidifier, take some time to review our most frequently asked questions about the brand's products below.
Q. Why do I need a humidifier?
A. Humidifiers, whether they are portable or whole house varieties, help make dry, wintry air more comfortable by boosting your indoor humidity level. You'll know you have a dry air issue when you observe certain visible effects in your home's interior. These may include peeling paint and wallpaper, warping and cracking on wood floors and wood furniture, and an abundance of static electricity. Additionally, certain belongings such as musical instruments, fine art, and even electronics may show signs of damage as a result of excessively low humidity.
Air with too little humidity can also lead to health issues. Dry air can aggravate existing health conditions such as asthma and respiratory ailments and cause new ones to develop in you and your family. Dry indoor air often leads to:
- Dry, aggravated sinuses
- Bloody nose
- Cracked lips
- Scratchy throat
- Dry skin
- Respiratory problems
A humidifier disperses invisible moisture throughout your environment to help maintain a healthy humidity level of between 30 and 50%. Q: How large of an area can Air-O-Swiss humidifiers cover?
A: This depends on the model and its coverage area rating. All Air-O-Swiss humidifiers are rated to cover a certain size area, measured in square feet. Our smallest Air-O-Swiss model is a portable travel humidifier that covers your immediate personal space while our largest Air-O-Swiss humidifiers cover approximately 650 square feet.
Q: What is the bestselling Air-O-Swiss humidifier?
A: Our bestselling Air-O-Swiss humidifiers are the Air-O-Swiss 7135 and the Air-O-Swiss AOS 7144 Ultrasonic Humidifier. Both humidifiers provide cool and warm mist operation, digital controls with humidity display, automatic humidity control, timer operation, and germ protection. The Air-O-Swiss 7135 was also recently recommended as a best buy by a leading consumer reporting agency. This model garnered high ratings in for moisture output, efficiency, low noise level, and hard water usage.
Q: What are the main differences among all the Air-O-Swiss humidifiers?
A: Air-O-Swiss tabletop humidifiers are available in a few main types, including cool mist-only units, ultrasonic cool mist and warm mist models, and air washer/humidifier combination models.
|Cool mist humidifiers, like the Air-O-Swiss 7145 , disperse invisible cool mist throughout your room and use less electricity to humidify spaces because water is not heated during the process. Some cool mist-only models are also considered evaporative humidifiers. These models, such as the Air-O-Swiss E2441 Cool Mist Evaporator Humidifier, use a wick filter to absorb water and a fan to help evaporate it into your air.
|Ultrasonic cool and warm mist humidifiers, such as the Air-O-Swiss 7133, infuse your air with an invisible warm or cool mist, depending on your selection. Typically, ultrasonic humidifiers are the quietest of all humidifiers because the humidification process emits sounds waves at a frequency higher than we can hear.
|Air washer humidifiers, including the Air-O-Swiss 2055A Air Washer Humidifier, clean the air while they humidify, removing harmful airborne impurities such as large dust particles and pet dander.
Air-O-Swiss models also differ in the variety of onboard features and functions of each humidifier. Visit our Air-O-Swiss humidifier brand center to browse and compare all of our Air-O-Swiss models.
Q: What is the difference between an Air-O-Swiss air washer and a conventional air purifier?
A: Air washers remove large particles from the air as they humidify. These units propel air through a series of rapidly spinning discs before it is humidified. During this process, large particulates such as dust, dirt, pollen, lint, and pet hair measuring as small as 1.5 microns are captured to avoid re-circulation in your environment. It's important to note that air washers are not as effective as air purifiers, which can remove larger amounts of much smaller particulates and are more effective for continuous allergen removal.
Q: How loud are Air-O-Swiss humidifiers?
A: All Air-O-Swiss humidifiers operate at less than 25 decibels (dB) of sound. This sound is comparable to a whisper-quiet library.
Q: What is required to maintain an Air-O-Swiss humidifier?
A: Air-O-Swiss humidifier units require some maintenance in order to continue producing clean, humidified air. Above all, it's important to remember to clean your humidifier regularly to avoid germ and bacteria build-up, which could be re-circulated throughout your air if it's not eliminated. To do this, empty the water tank and use a soft-bristled brush along with a mild cleanser to clean the inside. For convenience, certain Air-O-Swiss models, including the 7144, have a Clean Indicator feature that illuminates every 2 weeks to remind you that it's time to clean the inside of the water tank.
Most Air-O-Swiss models also require that you replace certain parts regularly. For example, the Air-O-Swiss Hydro Stick, which helps maintain freshness inside the water tank, must be replaced yearly. It is also recommended that you replace the demineralization cartridge every 2 to 3 months to continue preventing the release harmful minerals into the air, especially if you use hard water to fill your humidifier. Alternatively, you can refill the demineralization cartridge with refill granules instead of purchasing a new cartridge. Air-O-Swiss evaporative humidifiers will also need periodic replacement of the evaporator filter wick.

Q: What does the demineralization cartridge do?
A: The Air-O-Swiss demineralization cartridge removes minerals from water that could lead to white dust. White dust is airborne residue formed by a buildup of mineral content in the water used to fill your humidifier. This dust is most often formed as a result of using hard water in the unit. The white dust residue can enter your indoor air–and your lungs–and potentially cause a health condition known as humidifier lung. Symptoms of humidifier lung include lung inflammation, fever, chills, shortness of breath, body aches, coughing, and malaise. You might also consider using distilled water to fill your humidifier. Distilled water has less mineral content, so you'll have a reduced chance of white dust forming.
Q: Where are Air-O-Swiss humidifiers manufactured?
A: Air-O-Swiss is a subsidiary of Widnau, Switzerland-based PLASTON Holding HG. All Air-O-Swiss humidifiers are manufactured in Switzerland.
