In order to select among the various air purifiers, first consider the need:
- General Filtration: Excellent all-around filters for any indoor environment
- Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Filtration: VOCs are gasses emitted from certain solids or liquids. Many VOCs are up to 10 times higher in concentration indoors than outdoors. These gasses are generated from common household products (paints, paint strippers solvents, aerosol sprays, cleansers, disinfectants, etc.). As homes become increasingly better sealed and insulated, these gasses continue to rise in concentration in our everyday lives.
- Smoke Filtration: Specialized filters are needed to effectively collect and eliminate tobacco smoke. Allerair filters are effective in eliminating both smoke types contributing to dangerous second-hand smoke (exhaled smoke and burning-end smoke). If untreated, second-hand smoke can linger in the air for hours after smoking has stopped.
