Product Overview

Get your home's humidity under control with the Aprilaire 1710 Basement and Crawl Space Dehumidifier. This high-capacity, free-standing appliance is designed to remove excess moisture from basements and crawl spaces. Often times, these spaces harbor unhealthy humidity levels, which can lead to mold growth, dust mite infestations, and unpleasant musty odors. This problem is compounded as the humid air travels upward and infiltrates your entire home, bringing symptom-triggering allergens and other contaminants along with it.

In addition, too-high humidity can wreak havoc on your home's foundation, causing support beams to rot, floor boards to buckle, and wood to decay overtime. Using a quality dehumidifier – like the Aprilaire 1710 – is the key to maintaining the structural integrity of your home and creating healthier indoor air quality for you and your family.

More Capacity, More Efficiency

Made in the USA

Proudly made in the USA, the Aprilaire 1710 Dehumidifier may look like a typical off-the-shelf dehumidifier. However, with 100 percent more removal capacity and 300 percent more operating efficiency than the leading portable dehumidifier, it is truly in a class of its own. When performing in typical basement conditions of 65 degrees F at 65 percent relative humidity, the Model 1710 removes 74 pints of moisture a day. That works out to double the amount of moisture removed by the leading portable dehumidifier under the same conditions (37 pints). Moreover, because the 1710 basement dehumidifier is 300 percent more efficient than portable dehumidifiers operating under the same conditions, the 1710 will cost you considerably less to operate regularly.

Reliable Automatic Operation

In true "set it and forget it" fashion, this Aprilaire dehumidifier is equipped with an internal humidistat that automatically maintains your desired humidity level. To set it up, program a humidity level and simply plug it in. On a periodic basis, the unit measures the humidity conditions in your space and adjusts operation to maintain that level. This frees you from the hassle of manually adjusting the system's performance based on your own humidity measurements.

This crawl space and basement dehumidifier is also equipped with automatic drainage. The appliance can be drained automatically in two ways. First, you can integrate the 1710 into your home's drainage system using a PVC pipe and the included condensate trap pipe. Second, you can set up the dehumidifier to gravity drain into a nearby floor drain by attaching a hose to the drain port also using the included condensate trap fitting. As another option, you can purchase a condensate pump accessory that makes it possible to pump water out of the unit with as much as 15 feet of vertical lift. The 1710 is not equipped with an internal drainage tank, which eliminates the often messy task of manual emptying.

Additional Features

The Aprilaire 1710 dehumidifier has numerous convenience features to help make regular operation a snap. Other features ensure that the system works effectively round-the-clock. These include:

  • Easy Manual Controls – Use the manual control dial to toggle between low and high humidity as well as to operate the system in test mode.
  • Casters – These easy-roll locking wheels make it easy to move the dehumidifier around in your space.
  • Lifting Handles – Securely lift and move the Model 1710 using these convenient handles.
  • MERV-8 Air Filter – This easy-to-access air filter removes allergens such as mold spores, pet dander, and dust particles. It is washable, so it never needs replacing.
  • Defrost Control – This function automatically turns off the compressor in very cold conditions, while an internal fan runs until the coils are defrosted.
  • Quiet Operation – This dehumidifier has an operating sound level of 54 dB, which is slightly lower than the sound of normal conversation.
  • Testing Mode – Test mode ensures that the system is operating properly before you begin regular operation.
  • Inlet Air Operating Conditions – 40 to 105 degrees F
  • Ambient Air Operating Conditions – 40 to 150 degrees F
  • Ambient Operating Humidity Range – 0 to 100 percent Relative Humidity
  • Drain Port Size – 0.75 in. diameter
  • Refrigerant Type –  R-410A (does not contribute to ozone depletion)

Comments about Aprilaire 1710 Basement and Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

Purchased this unit after a roofer showed me how the moisture in my attic was actually originating in the wet basement. The Aprilaire 1710 ran for about a month during summer and then periodically after the basement was completely dry. I can actually use my basement now. I'm planning a TV room in the space. So effective that after a water piper broke, it actually dried everything in one day. Even old paper records and cardboard boxes.

    Excellent Product

Comments about Aprilaire 1710 Basement and Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

Installed the Aprilaire 1710 to dehumidify a basement area in a coastal house. The dehumidifier arrived in excellent order and was easy to install. Most important, it has solved the problem. The RH stays at 50% during one of the most humid seasons at the coast. It also conditions the air over almost 2,000 square feet from a single location, which is not centrally located. A real plus. The operating costs also appear to be reasonable since I have not seen a major increase in electricity consumption. Totally satisfied with the product.

    Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ideal humidity level this unit should maintain?
We recommend you maintain a humidity level of between 45 and 50 percent. Too much humidity creates an ideal environment for mold, dust mites, bacteria, and pests to thrive. Too little humidity can be just as damaging by causing health issues such as an increase in colds and the flu and irritated skin and respiratory passages. Low humidity can also contribute to cracked ceilings, separated wood floors, damage to furniture, and more. Learn more about this in our article Dehumidifiers: Frequently Asked Questions.
Is the Aprilaire 1710 Dehumidifier made in the USA?
Yes, this product is assembled in America.
Should a dehumidifier be setup as close to floor level as possible or will they work the same if raised a few feet up off the ground?
Dehumidifiers can be either situated on a floor level or raised without affecting operation. When raised a few feet, the dehumidifier will benefit from improved gravity drainage.
Can you select one or two speeds on the fan manually?
The 2-speed fan is controlled automatically by the main control knob, which allows selection of "Less," "Normal," and "More" drying levels. Combined with the humidity sensor reading, the dehumidifier selects the appropriate fan speed automatically.
