I have six lovely grown cats who live with me an my husband. While they are well mannered they also like to play. This unit keeps their dander down and hair from going just everywhere.. Plan to save up for another unit to put in the front of our house.

I have a tenant that lives downstairs, very nice person, but he told me he smokes 3 packs of cigarettes a day, most of his work requires him to stay home, so my home really smelled of smoke all the time.. I live in a small condo above an even smaller one bedroom unit. Unfortunately, the tenant below me is a heavy smoker and chooses to smoke inside her unit with her windows closed. The smoke must have nowhere else to go because it is coming in to my unit. I needed an air purifier that would, most importantly, eliminate the second hand smoke that seeps up into my unit. I also have asthma and was hoping this purifier would help to lessen some of the allergens that trigger my asthma symptoms. The Allergy Machine Air Purifier does a great job eliminating the smoke odors. The only place I still smell smoke is in a closet, the door to which is kept closed. My allergy symptoms seem to be improving as well. The fact that my windows are now kept closed all the time due to the weather could be a factor, too.

The unit is heavier than I anticipated. Fortunately it comes with casters making it quite easy to roll from one place to another. I am still able to carry it up a flight of stairs to my second floor bedroom if I want to. The constant fan sound provides a quiet white noise effect helping to drown out sounds from a busy neighborhood which is very welcome. In hindsight, I probably should have purchased two of the smaller units instead of the one larger unit. That way, I could have one unit on each floor.

The fact that it is so low maintenance is such a bonus. Five years on one filter is impressive!

I learned about Austin Air Purifiers from my daughter' father-in-law who purchased a unit for them to help deal with a mold issue they were having in their home. It is working beautifully for them. This gentleman is one who does his homework before making larger purchases such as these. I am very grateful that he did and that he shared the information with me.

I purchased this unit after considerable research for an air purifier that would help my son's allergies/eczema. From our perspective, this Austin Air offered the best value given the size of room it can treat and the portability (both weight of unit and use of casters). Since we were not as concerned about vapors vs airborn particulates (pollen, mold, dog dander and general household dust), this unit suited us best.

This unit can not only work in his room, but we can use it downstairs in our living room when we use the fireplace, or are doing any light construction project which may cause more dust/debris. The unit is 35 pounds, which does not seem to be an issue for my wife, since she only carries it down the stairs and uses the casters the rest of the way.

After using it for about a month now, I can confidently say I feel a difference in the air and my son seems to be itching and sneezing less as well. The air seems fresher, with any noticeable mustiness after an evening of sleep. We don't leave it on all day when we are not home, but setting the unit on Level 1 cleans out the room very quickly upon our return.

I was concerned about the comments regarding the noise of the unit. But since my son usually sleeps with a white noise machine, he didn't mind at all. And if set on the lowest setting (at night), it's a pretty low sound.

I cannot recommend this unit enough!

I purchased two Allergy Machines almost exactly 5 years ago from Sylvane. They offered the best price anywhere on the internet. We had just learned our youngest of three children suffered from environmental inhalation allergies to "everything!" Dust, dogs, cats, pollen, grass, mold, and mildew were all strong triggers. My efforts to make the home a comfortable place for him included extensive research on the past home air filtration. We considered adding a system inline to our HVAC. In the end the Austin Air products were the best bang for the buck offering HEPA quality filtration and a large square foot effectiveness area.

I wanted one filter for each floor of my home which is about 1400 square feet on each level. The low cost per square foot of clean air was one of the lowest I found. After running the two machines nonstop for the past 5 years on low or medium speed mostly, we have had absolutely no problems. I have opened the units about 3 times to vacuum off the prefilter and the outside of the main filter. I had forgotten the date of purchase, but was wondering if I needed to replace the filters as my son has been more congested lately when in the home. I got the date of my son's initial allergy testing from his allergist and assumed the purchase date was near the date they gave me, Spring 2007.

I just recently received a postcard from Austin Air indicating the filters are due for replacement. I've been thinking it was at least 6 or 9 months early. Today I sent an inquiry to Sylvane to get the actual purchase date. It was September 2006!! It's been exactly 5 years! I am impressed with the Austin Air Allergy machine. It performs just as advertised. I am also impressed with Sylvane's customer service which was extremely prompt and I was provided with exactly what I needed the first time! I just placed an order with Sylvane for two replacement filters and pre-filters and am looking forward to another 5 years of trouble-free operation!

After looking at many different websites and reviews on different air cleaners, I finally decided to go with the Austin Air Allergy Machine with HEGA filtration. I have to say that this is one of the best air cleaners I have ever owned.

I love the fact that it has very little maintenance required and the filters last longer than some other air cleaners that you have to change every 6 to 12 months. My wife and I both have allergies and now we don’t wake up congested and we can breathe much easier throughout the night. The unit is built very well and is sturdy and moves around on the carpet with casters with no problems. I also like the fact that on any speed that it pushes out quite a bit of air. I also have a laser particle counter and can see the difference that this machine makes after running this for a couple of hours in our bedroom.

Sylvane’s online ordering was very easy and my product was shipped out on the same day. I received it by UPS 3 day just as advertised on their website with free shipping. I even e-mailed customer support on a question that I had about the Austin Air and received a reply later that day. I also like the fact that if I had to return something that I will not be charged re-stocking fees like some other on-line retailers do. They are great to do business with and I will look forward to using them in the future.

We recently got a miniature schnauzer and at the beginning of the summer when the pollen levels were extremely high, our little puppy would bring in all sorts of allergens from outside. There were a few weeks there where I thought we would have to find another home for our dog.
I looked for all sorts of different products to help control the allergens as well as the pet dander and some things I tried helped a little, but I still could not stop itching and sneezing. We tried allergy shampoos, dander reducing sprays, all types of allergy medicines, and keeping the puppy from playing in the yard. No matter what we tried, he would bring in enough allergens to drive me insane.

After all of these attempts to alleviate the problem, I couldn’t take it any more and started looking for an air purifier that would help. I had been looking for an air purifier for a long time, but I never pulled the trigger on it. I guess this was my tipping point.

I looked at many other air purifiers that had better features such as being quieter, having more settings, having an ionizer, sleeker design, and etc. but I ended up choosing the Austin Air due to a number of factors.
First off, the reviews I read about this air purifier were extremely positive. Also, the energy usage of this air purifier was pretty good for the amount of air it cleans per hour. It’s amazing how many times it cycles clean air into our living room.
My friend who is a naturopath also has the Austin Air purifier at home, so that weighed into my decision as well. Finally, it came down to maintenance. Having to replace a pre-filter every 3 months along with replacing the HEPA every year would have been a pain as well as an extremely pricey option. The fact that all I have to do go over the outside of the unit with a vacuum every month and replace the HEPA filter every 5 years is fantastic.

I have noticed a huge difference in the quality of air in our home. In fact I noticed the change right after I got the unit, as I was working from home that day. The amount of dust and dander in the house has also been significantly reduced, and we’re very pleased with the unit. My allergies are completely under control now. I’ll have to wait until the beginning of next summer to really put it to the test. It is a little noisier than other units that boast quieter systems, but it’s a dull noise that I can sleep to. I’m the type that can’t fall asleep with noises in the bedroom, so it’s great that it’s dull enough that I don’t notice it.
