Dyson recently announced a voluntary recall on their popular AM04 and AM05 heater fans. The recall announcement came after 4 products created “contained” fires, reportedly started by internal burn-outs in the heating element.
For more information or to register your Dyson AM04 or AM05 for the recall, visit the Dyson Recall Site.
An innovator in home appliances, Dyson first introduced their fans in 2009 and released the heater version in 2011. These unique fans and heater fans use air multiplier technology instead of traditional fan blades. Dyson’s standard fans (without heat) aren’t affected by the recall since they don’t include the heating element.
Dyson suggests all owners of AM04 and AM05 models visit their recall site to get the ball rolling and receive directions on how to proceed. They’re releasing new information soon, so check back here or visit their recall site for more information. You can also contact Dyson’s helpline at 1-866-297-5303.

What’s on the inside matters most–that’s what I’ve always heard. Not that you would know it by looking at Dyson vacuums, which look more like gadgets than vacuum cleaners.
But when it came to creating the DC65 vacuums, an update to their popular DC41 line, Dyson focused on what’s inside their vacuums. So even though they look like past models, they’re even better than ever. Want more good news? We’re offering 20% off all Dyson models during our vacuum sale (using discount code DYSON20)—including the new DC65 models.
Let’s compare their 3 new models and check out what improvements have been made. More information on our vacuum sale can also be found below, which includes 10% off various other vacuum cleaner brands.

Winter doesn’t officially start for another 5 weeks, but freezing weather came earlier than expected thanks to an arctic blast that hit the south and northeast over the last few days. People from Florida to DC and even Texas saw temperatures drop from fair to freezing in a matter of hours. As discussed on the various news channels (including CBS) this week, experts say this may be the start of a very long winter. These unusually cold temperatures are affecting millions of people across the country and have many worried about what lies ahead.
The current blast is producing record-breaking lows and freezing weather that residents haven’t seen (or prepared for) in quite some time. Considering these unpredictable weather patterns, it may be time to prepare for the cold winter ahead. Central heating systems are great, but when temperatures drop drastically with no warning, it’s a good idea to have a space heater available for quick, directed heat in specific rooms. Most of these inexpensive heaters are about as efficient as you can get–and can help save you money by keeping your thermostat at a lower temperature.
Whether you’re looking for a compact heater to place on your floor, a tabletop heater, or a heater that hangs from your wall, we have a variety of options for any room in your home. Here are a few good heater options depending on your needs:
- Convection Heaters: Looking to warm an entire room? Then a convection heater is definitely one to check out. Generally aided by fans, these heaters spread warmth across your room and are generally compact enough to move from room to room. So you can keep it in your bedroom when you sleep and then move it to your living room while you’re watching TV.
- Infrared Heaters: Consider an infrared heater if you need direct heat to objects in your space. They’re common for people looking to heat themselves and other direct objects–not necessarily an entire room. Just target yours right where you need it, and enjoy the warmth instantly.
- Garage Heaters: Working in garages when it’s frigidly cold outside sounds like a ton of fun, right? Probably not. Glance over our selection of garage and workshop heaters to see if any of them can help you out this winter. With rugged exteriors and powerful heating capabilities, they can withstand the tough conditions in your garage–and you will too!
Regardless of how you do it, do your best to get through the crazy weather patterns hitting the United States. Have you noticed any surprisingly low temperatures in your areas? Have any suggestions to deal with it? Let us know in the comments below!

The best keep getting better—it’s an old saying that almost always seems to be true. While I’ve never heard it used to describe a dehumidifier, it’s exactly what Santa Fe has done to its massively-popular Santa Fe Advance Dehumidifier. Many considered the American-built Advance the best dehumidifier around, and yet it just got even better thanks to the new upgraded version: the Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier. Specifically, the top-of-the-line crawl space and basement dehumidifier is even more efficient, quiet, and durable.
The Advance 2 shares a lot of the great features its predecessor included: it removes 90 pints of moisture a day and keeps spaces up to 2,200 square feet full of fresh, dry air. It’s also Energy Star-rated, uses superior filtration, and has multiple installation options.
But a few design improvements help the Advance 2 run more efficiently and quietly. The biggest change is it now offers dual-exhaust outlets for increased airflow and efficiency. As opposed to 1 exhaust in the original Santa Fe Advance, the Advance 2 uses dual-exhausts to quickly push dehumidified air throughout your basement, crawl space, or other area. This means it delivers the maximum amount of treated air in a shorter amount of time, so your space will be full of treated, dehumidified air quicker than ever before.
A more durable, sheet metal shell is another design upgrade. This update not only helps your dehumidifier last longer but allows it to operate more quietly than before. Santa Fe engineers also made their new model slightly smaller, so it’s easier to install and place in your home space.

Miele vacuums took home the JD Power and Associates top prize for “Highest Customer Satisfaction” for both upright and canister vacuum categories. In the annual survey, consumers ranked Miele vacuums highest in performance, styling and features. It’s the second win in a row for Miele’s upright vacuums as they continue to impress everyone who uses one.

I wasn’t expecting to fall in love when I went to the Miele S8 premiere party in Atlanta last month, where I rubbed elbows with the Southeast’s most avid vacuum aficionados and Miele ambassadors. And then, from across the room, I locked eyes with the Alize.
This vacuum is everything I ever wanted: artisanal quality, check. Next-level filtration, check. Criminally cute design? Yeah buddy. We just received the S8 line at our corporate headquarters, and before I run away to Reno with my Alize, let me tell you what makes these vacuums so cool. Read more about the S8 line!

You know breathing clean air benefits your lungs and heart. But what about your waistline?
More and more researchers are uncovering links between obesity and long-term exposure to toxins, chemicals, and compounds.
A recent hypothesis suggests that rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the environment might be contributing to the obesity epidemic in our country. The idea is that breathing too much CO2 causes our blood to become more acidic, which triggers neurons that regulate appetite, sleep, and metabolism to fire more rapidly. As a result, we could be eating more, sleeping less, and gaining more weight.

Last month, we announced the launch of our new Air Quality Evangelist program. The goal of this project is to celebrate other blogs and websites that appreciate good air quality and provide insight on how you can improve yours.
Now it’s time to announce this month’s Air Quality Evangelists!
Kathy Scoleri is a web designer, author, and mother of two boys. When she was expecting her first child in 2007 – and spending hours researching Bisphenol-A, hormone mimicking chemicals, and toy recalls – she knew she couldn’t be the only parent scouring the web for this information. So she created SafeMama to keep it all in one place.
Winning Post: There are many choices you can make to Keep Toxic Chemicals Out Of Your Home. In this article, SafeMama hits some major points – from losing the shoes while inside to using HEPA-filtered vacuums.
