Let’s face it: When most people think of plants, they often think of allergies. As a result, many people choose to keep plants outside to reduce the likelihood of suffering from the sneezing, itching, and coughing that may occur in the presence of certain plants. However, a study published by NASA revealed that some common household plants can actually improve indoor air quality.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), levels of pollutants inside the home are often two to five times higher than outdoor pollutant levels. You’re probably thinking, “How is that possible? I clean my floors and counter tops regularly.” Well, don’t be too hard on yourself because these excessive levels aren’t necessarily the result of poor housekeeping. Find out which plants can clean your indoor air

A group of disorders known as Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB) is linked to a number of lifestyle factors, including age, weight and gender. A recent Harvard study shows that another cause is at work: poor indoor quality. With an estimated 17% of U.S. adults suffering from one of these disorders, this information is a breakthrough in SDB research.
While the link between poor health and poor air has long been known, this is the first known study on the relationship between air quality and sleep.

If you’ve purchased an air conditioner, dehumidifier, or other appliance with a refrigeration system recently, you’ve probably noticed a change in the type of refrigerant being used. More specifically, you may have noticed the words “eco-friendly” or “non-ozone-depleting” popping up on product packaging or in sales literature when refrigerant is discussed.
First, let me assure you—these new claims aren’t just lofty selling points made by manufacturers in order to try to secure a sale. There is truth in these statements. However, as an informed consumer, it helps to understand this new change and what it means for you when you purchase an appliance equipped with “environmentally friendly refrigerant.” Here is the lowdown.

While portable air conditioners are a great way to cool areas of your home without the need for expensive installation jobs, let’s face it, many of them are clunky and difficult to place discreetly in your home. Electronics-giant Sharp has introduced 2 super-quiet yet very powerful models into its series of sleek and attractive portable air conditioners. The new units – the Sharp CV-P12PX and the Sharp CV-P13PX – have loads of impressive features. They are equipped with four operating modes, three fan speeds, automatic draining technology, and advanced airflow louvers, to name a few. However, one quality that makes them stand out from the rest – and not to mention from similar models in their class – is that they are incredibly quiet. We’re talking “library quiet.”
When running on their lowest fan speeds, these units emit sounds that are only slightly louder than a whisper. At 41 decibels and 43 decibels respectively, the CV-P12PX and CV-P13PX can be operated in your bedroom, office, or living room with virtually zero disruption. That’s a long way from many first-generation portable AC models that, when operating, you swear sound like a plane shooting down a runway.

In this economic landscape, we look for deals underneath nearly every rock – or pile of bills, for that matter. Well, here’s a deal for you to think about, even in the midst of winter. Consider a combination appliance, such as a portable air conditioner with added functionalities.
Okay, hear me out. (I swear I can hear those of you in the North chuckling: “Why on earth would I buy a portable air conditioner, now?!”) Does it sometimes seem like you need to have an appliance for every task? For instance, I have observed this problem when it comes to my electric cooking appliances. Stuffed in my pantry, I’ve got an electric vegetable chopper, a quesadilla maker, a sandwich maker, an indoor grill/griddle, a s’mores maker, and a waffle iron. Now, every time I open my pantry and stare at this mess of culinary technology, I think “Why can’t someone just make one appliance that does all of these things?”
Apparently, portable air conditioner (PAC) manufacturers have already received this memo. Read more about portable air conditioners with added functionalities
