Sylvane Employees Share Our New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year! We officially rang in the new year (hopefully with style) and are excited for a fresh, healthy start to 2015. A few of us in the office discussed our new year’s resolutions to get ideas and hold each other accountable. Check out our resolutions below and see what we hope to change this year! Want to be held accountable, too? Share your resolutions with us in the comments below. And check back in to report how you’re doing!

Meg’s Resolution
Be More Organized at Home

This one kind of surprised me, because Meg is one of most organized people in the office. But I guess it makes sense: She’s a working mom of 3 who runs our Merchandising department and her home. Between laundry, school supplies, sports equipment, and band stuff…there’s a lot to keep straight at home. She’s hoping keeping everything organized at home will save her time and keep her sane while juggling everything in her life.

How to Beat Holiday Allergy Triggers

holiday-1The arrival of winter offers relief for many allergy sufferers, but setting up for the holidays can cause a host of issues for people with asthma and allergies. If the thought of Christmas brings images of festive trees and plants along with memories of sneezing and sniffling through the holidays, a few simple changes can make your holiday more enjoyable.

Here are some common triggers and how to avoid them this holiday season:

Seasonal Decorationsornaments

Don’t forget the decorations you love so much, the ones that give your home the holiday feel, they’ve been stored away for 11 or so months. And they’re generally kept in attics, basements, garages or other places that are known for harboring dust and mold. Wipe down seasonal ornaments and decorations with a damp cloth when you first dig them out. If you purchase live decorations or plants (more on trees below!), then be sure to toss them as soon as they start to dry out. Continue reading…

The Dyson Experience: An Interactive Training

I was lucky enough to experience “Dyson at the Fox”, the company’s most interactive training yet. A few of us from Sylvane had the privilege to test drive several of their new and existing products. I learned a lot of cool stuff and found my new favorite product! Check out my photos from the training and see which products I was most impressed with below.

LIMITED TIME ONLY: FREE HEPA FILTER WITH PURCHASE THROUGH 9-30-2014!

Miele vacuums are generally regarded as a top choice for truly clean air and floors. Just read my co-worker Kari’s Miele Marin review to see why she loved hers.

Their heavy-duty HEPA filters and sealed bag systems remove just about every particle in your air—making them ideal for allergy-sufferers. Designed for years of use, they come with long warranties, useful accessories, and can clean both hard floors and carpets.

Need more incentive to buy one? Well, for a limited time, you’ll get a FREE HEPA filter with your purchase. That’s a nearly $50 value! But don’t waste much more time, because the free HEPA filter promotion only lasts until September 30, 2014.

These HEPA filters play a big part in cleaning your home. Miele HEPA filters conform to the stringent European standard for filtration (EN 1822), so they’re proven to trap 99.99% of all particles as tiny as 0.3 microns. Pet dander, dust, and most household allergens don’t stand a chance. Their impressive HEPA filters last about a year, so having an extra one means you won’t have to worry about replacements for a while. You’ll also save $50 by purchasing now.

Not sure what Miele is best for you? Check out more information on these top-of-the-line upright and canister vacuums below.   Continue reading…

How to Make Quick Work of a Flooded Warehouse

new-429-large_size_image-dri-eaz-sahara-pro-daisy-chainThe Atlanta area has literally been flooded with rain recently. Typically our summers look a lot like Florida: Scorching hot during the day with a few pop up showers in the afternoon. Lately it has been more like “take cover because a long, torrential downpour is on the way.”

All the rain this past weekend left one furniture store with quite a mess! Their basement, which serves as warehouse space with lots of valuable pieces, was completely flooded when rain leaked into their basement. By the time the skies cleared nearly a foot of standing water was present in some areas.

Luckily, a few sturdy Sylvane products came to the rescue. In fact, the water damage was taken care of by the end of the weekend, so it didn’t influence business come Monday morning. One of our popular shop vacs removed a large amount of the water and debris, before a few industrial fans removed excess moisture in the floors, wood, and boxes.

If you’re ever in the same predicament, these products could save you a lot of hassle and money. Let’s take a look at what happened:
