After 3 weeks, the Comfort-Aire 651 is doing what it is supposed to do in the basement - keeping it around 40-45% humidity vs. the 55%+ previously. I like the hose drain - it has a nipple that a tube can connect to and empties into the floor drain. I purchased 13' of 1/2 inch tubing and went straight to the drain nipple through the back opening instead of using the 8" piece that came with it and then having to connect a water hose. I would suggest this approach for those willing to purchase another $6 of tube. Only concern at this point is the unit seems to be in defrost mode frequently when I check on it. Not sure if this is of concern yet as to the life-expectancy of the unit. Sylvane did a good job shipping the unit quickly and it was well packaged to ensure no damage.

I bought this unit based on reader reviews even though it is a somewhat pricey dehumidifier.
The last dehumidifier I bought only lasted two or three years so decided to try a more expensive one in the hope it would last longer.
While this unit does lower the humidity in my basement to the desired level and maintain it there; the anti-freeze function does not seem to work properly.
The tempature in my basement throughout the summer was 75 to 80 degrees farenheit yet this unit was constantly going into "thaw out" mode.
It works well besides that; although it spends a LOT of time with the compressor off and the fan on high to de-thaw the non-frozen device.

I amm using the machine in a finished basement. The only thing bad is trying to replace the water pan. I found the easiest way is to lay the machine on its back.

Comments about Comfort-Aire BHD-651-G Dehumidifier:
So far (two weeks), this unit has performed as advertised and as indicated in other (positive) reviews. It is quiet, efficient, easy to operate. The delivery was quick, no damage, no fuss. The instructions, especially if you have had a previous dehumidifier, are clear. It took me less than fifteen minutes to have this one out of the box and operating. Despite two heavy downpours and a generally rainy few weeks (which put significant amounts of water into our cellar/basement), the unit has kept up with demand, keeping the relative humidity pretty close to 50%, mostly running at the "normal," not "turbo," fan setting. The features are fine, getting the job done. Average temperature in the space has been around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, no problems with needing to defrost as other reviewers have mentioned.
Any water pan I have seen on a dehumidifier of this kind is a pain: we send the water through a hose directly into the floor drain. Attaching was not a problem, except that one of the screws stripped without effort, so that will require a minor tweak to set right.
In all, it's a good product that (so far) does its job as advertised.

Water pan removal and replacement is a bit awkward! It doesn't slide in and out very efficiently.

Comments about Comfort-Aire BHD-651-G Dehumidifier:
We use the product in our basement, where we had problems with buckling floors before the use of dehumidifiers. We need it in the summers, when the air is humid, whereas it usually does not need to run in our dry winters.
So far, the product works well and keeps the humidity at the desired level. One feature I really like is the display of the current humidity. Emptying the bucket manually is fairly easy, and it is convenient that there are not any cover-parts that obstruct the water when pouring it out (had that problem with previous products).
The only disadvantage I discovered so far is that it increases the temperature in the room when it is running frequently, thus I took one star away in the rating.
This is our third dehumidifier in our house in 6 1/2 years and so far it worked well through the first summer. However, so did our previous ones - the problems usually come after 2-3 years. So I hope it will not fail us as quickly as our previous ones.

Product in service in a 1300 sf shop and performs well at keeping humidity below 50% in the summer months. Unit tends to freeze up in the colder months but still controls humidity.

Very pleased with the first unit we bought and use in our basement. It is very efficient. This helped our decision to purchase a second unit to use in our second home's crawlspace.
