There are unique venting constraints encountered when choosing to add portable air conditioning to an office or computer server room. When a portable air conditioner is installed it will exhaust hot air through a vent hose – typically through a window or door. Windows are often not available, however, in a workplace or computer server room. Venting options for these spaces include either venting to a nearby empty room or into a drop ceiling plenum.
Venting into a drop ceiling is oftentimes the best choice for office locations. Commercial grade units have higher reliability and have kit options to allow you to vent easily into a drop ceiling. However, these units are expensive and some businesses choose to opt for using a residential-grade unit. This typically requires elevating the unit in question closer to the drop ceiling as exhaust hoses on these units should not be extended.
In addition, businesses will typically want units which will auto-restart after power failure if the ac unit will be used in a computer room. This will ensure that your computers are protected in the event of power outages.
