The humidifier was easy to set up and had very simple directions. I chose to utilize the drain hose instead of the removable bucket. (I will note that the bucket is not hard to remove as stated in other reviews from other sites - if it were full and had to be removed, it may splash a little, but would pose little danger in a total spill) The unit does have to be elevated higher than the drain you will utilize. I currently have my unit on a table beside an unused toilet in my basement. The hose is thin plastic and could be cut easily to a shorter length. It also fits perfectly into a 3/4 inch PVC pipe. I eventually plan to tap mine into the main drain for our home using PVC.
I placed the unit in my open, 2700 square foot basement on a Friday night. The home is 5 years old, and we have had humidity and mold problems since it was built. The basement temperature was 70 degrees and the humidity was 68% when I turned the humidifier on. I have had the unit running for 8 days and the humidity in my basement is now 40%. It took 6 days to reach this humidity. I have the unit set for 40% but it will go lower if you desire. I do not know how long it would take it to decrease the humidity farther. I also ran a box fan to increase air circulation for the first 5 days, but have not had it back on since. The humidifier now only runs when the humidity increases above 40%. However the fan does continue to run constantly. I have mine set on the high setting.
The humidity dropped to 55% within the first 24 to 48 hours and steadily decreased from there. I'm very happy with this product and plan to order another for the basement. Although one did the job, I hold the opinion that two units are justified for a basement the size of mine and will decrease the workload on an individual unit. The fan does run constantly. It can not be heard upstairs in my house, and would not pose a noise problem in a room by itself. Probably not good for an occupied bed room or living room. The fan noise is comparable to a regular box fan.
The temperature in my basement has been a steady 68-72 degrees.

The basic design is good -- it moves a lot of air, which is vital for good drying -- but there are problems. The biggest one is that it won't drain out the hose connection. At best, it was still putting water into the tank, which would eventually fill the tank and turn off the dehumidifier. At worst, it was leaking from the hose connection (a lot -- big puddles on the floor). Maybe I got a bad one -- if Sylvane is willing to replace it (and it's any better) I'll edit this (or add another comment).

Additionally, while the tank is easy to remove and replace (unlike some other dehumidifiers I've owned) I still haven't figured out a way to empty it without making a mess. There's a lot of structural material inside the tank that traps the water and makes it hard to empty. Sloppy design.

I bought this dehumidifier for our unfinished basement. So far it seem to be doing the job. Its about 1300 square feet. The fan is a bit loud when on high, but that doesn't bother me.

Comments about Danby DDR70A2GP 70 Pint Dehumidifier:

Would give it 5 stars if it hadn't been so noisy.

Has been about a month since we got this; draws out buckets of water, literally speaking, quickly from a very humid (sometimes upto 84% RH), finished, and, mostly open, basement area of roughly 1000 sq ft. The bucket has a carry handle for easy handling.

My only complaint would be the noise - the fan never shuts off. It's a white noise and it is loud. This is what stops me from running it all the time. It also generates quite a bit of heat - which isn't a bad thing for us since it makes the area feel cozy - but the machine needs to stay well ventilated.
I like the option of hooking up a drainage hose although I haven't done that yet.

Comments about Danby DDR70A2GP 70 Pint Dehumidifier:

The unit seems to work fine in drying out a damp basement and keeping it dry. Only real drawback so far is emptying the catch bucket. Needs to have molded handles added to design. Cord is only 4 ft. or so, 6 ft. would be much better.

Comments about Danby DDR70A2GP 70 Pint Dehumidifier:

I bought this to remidiate high levels of 60% humidity in my finished basement during the warmer months. I especially like the electronic display. The temp and humidity sensors are off by 5% or 5 degrees max. (i check this by a high end sensors). An OK product for noise as the fan is insanely loud. A very good product for accuracy. And an excellent product for removing moisture rapidly.

We bought this for our basement but decided to hook it up in the house first, my husband could not believe how much water was pulled out of the air in the house. He has some sinus issues, and believes this has already helped. It makes no more noise then a window air conditioner. Looks like we may need to purchase a second unit for the basement. Great purchase.
