From mold and mildew to clammy air, allergies, and even costly damage to your home, excess humidity is a serious problemthat needs a quick fix. Get it with the newly redesigned Danby DDR70A2GP Dehumidifier. As part of the Danby Premiere line of residential dehumidifiers, this Energy Star dehumidifier extracts 70 pints of excess moisture per day from large spaces measuring up to 3,800 square feet. Ideal for large basements, great rooms, and other large areas around your home susceptible humidity problems, the DDR70A2GP is packed with user-friendly features that take the guesswork out of operation.

    Automatic Humidity Control

Dehumidifying problem areas is easier than ever with the Danby 70-Pint Dehumidifier. Simply set your desired humidity level from 30% to 90%, adjusting it in 5% increments, and select from 1 of 2 fan speeds. We recommend setting your humidity between 45 and 50% to maintain a healthy, mold-free home. Both the dehumidifier's compressor and fan will run until your humidity setting is reached. Once it's reached, the compressor and fan shut off and run intermittently to maintain your desired humidity. Please note that the fan will shut off after a short 3 to 5 minute delay.

Danby 70-Pint Dehumidifier Healthy Basement PackagePurchase the dehumidifier a la carte or choose our Danby DDR70A2GP Healthy Basement Package, a Sylvane exclusive, to get everything you need to solve humidity problems in your basement. The Healthy Basement Package includes the following accessories along with the Danby DDR70A2GP 70-Pint Dehumidifier:

    • Hartell External Condensate Pump
      • Pumps collected water across longer distances or upward directly into a drain or sink, eliminating the need to empty the bucket and improving the efficiency of gravity draining alone.
      • Provides up to a 15 feet of vertical lift.
      • Includes 20 feet of flexible plastic drain tubing to suit multiple drainage applications.
    • Acu-Rite Remote Thermometer and Humidity Sensor
      • This thermometer/humidity sensor combo package allows you to place a remote sensor in your basement to monitor the humidity level from upstairs or any convenient location.
      • The thermometer is compatible with up to 3 remote sensors, which makes it perfect for monitoring multiple areas from one central location. One basement sensor is included. Additional remote humidity sensors can be purchased separately.
      • Thermometer/sensor package features min/max memory of temperature and humidity in each area as well as atomic clock and moon phase display.

    Portable Design with User-Friendly Controls

The Danby DDR70A2GP Dehumidifier features a user-friendly electronic control panel and a portable design that allows you to move it freely throughout your home. Use the pushbutton controls to set your humidity, choose a fan speed, view your current humidity level, and program the 24-hour shutoff timer. Easy-to-see indicator lights also let you know when the dehumidifier tank is full or running in defrost mode. Plus, with built-in carrying handles on each side and 4 easy-roll casters, you can move the DDR70A2GP around your home for humidity control wherever it’s needed.

    Additional Features

    • Dual Drainage Options - Drain the dehumidifier manually by emptying the tank or attach the included drain hose to the drain port for continuous gravity drainage.
    • 24-Hour Shutoff Timer – Use the timer to program a shutoff time up to 24 hours in advance to conserve power.
    • Automatic Restart – Should a power failure occur, the DDR70A2GP will resume operating in the default factory setting of 60% humidity on the lowest fan speed once power returns for peace of mind.
    • Automatic Defrost – In temperatures below 41 degrees F, frost may build up on the evaporator coils. When this happens, the dehumidifier shuts off its compressor and enters defrost mode automatically to melt frost quickly and resume normal operation.
    • Washable Air Filter – A washable air filter helps remove dust and allergens from the air and keeps the dehumidifier running efficiently.
    • Quiet Operation – At its highest fan speed, the Danby 70-Pint Dehumidifier has a noise level of 55 decibels, equivalent to sounds in an average home.
    • Environmentally Friendly Design – This model uses eco-friendly R-410A refrigerant, which does not deplete ozone. It’s also Energy Star-rated for more efficient, money-saving operation over comparable non-Energy Star dehumidifiers.

    Summary

The Danby DDR70A2GP Dehumidifier solves problem humidity in large spaces up to 3,800 square feet. Purchase the unit or get our Healthy Basement Package, which also includes a condensate pump and thermometer/humidity sensor for greater value and flexibility in use.

    What Customers Love

    • Hassle-Free Dehumidifying – Simply set your desired humidity level and the dehumidifier maintains that level throughout your space by cycling the compressor on and off.
    • Money-Saving Operation – Energy Star dehumidifiers like this model are built with more efficient refrigeration coils, compressors, and fans so they use less energy to dehumidify your space and keep your operating costs in check.

    Things to Consider

    • Need a Pump? – Consider adding a condensate pump if continuous gravity drainage or manual emptying isn’t realistic in your space. Or choose the Healthy Basement Package, which includes a pump.

The humidifier was easy to set up and had very simple directions. I chose to utilize the drain hose instead of the removable bucket. (I will note that the bucket is not hard to remove as stated in other reviews from other sites - if it were full and had to be removed, it may splash a little, but would pose little danger in a total spill) The unit does have to be elevated higher than the drain you will utilize. I currently have my unit on a table beside an unused toilet in my basement. The hose is thin plastic and could be cut easily to a shorter length. It also fits perfectly into a 3/4 inch PVC pipe. I eventually plan to tap mine into the main drain for our home using PVC.
I placed the unit in my open, 2700 square foot basement on a Friday night. The home is 5 years old, and we have had humidity and mold problems since it was built. The basement temperature was 70 degrees and the humidity was 68% when I turned the humidifier on. I have had the unit running for 8 days and the humidity in my basement is now 40%. It took 6 days to reach this humidity. I have the unit set for 40% but it will go lower if you desire. I do not know how long it would take it to decrease the humidity farther. I also ran a box fan to increase air circulation for the first 5 days, but have not had it back on since. The humidifier now only runs when the humidity increases above 40%. However the fan does continue to run constantly. I have mine set on the high setting.
The humidity dropped to 55% within the first 24 to 48 hours and steadily decreased from there. I'm very happy with this product and plan to order another for the basement. Although one did the job, I hold the opinion that two units are justified for a basement the size of mine and will decrease the workload on an individual unit. The fan does run constantly. It can not be heard upstairs in my house, and would not pose a noise problem in a room by itself. Probably not good for an occupied bed room or living room. The fan noise is comparable to a regular box fan.
The temperature in my basement has been a steady 68-72 degrees.

The basic design is good -- it moves a lot of air, which is vital for good drying -- but there are problems. The biggest one is that it won't drain out the hose connection. At best, it was still putting water into the tank, which would eventually fill the tank and turn off the dehumidifier. At worst, it was leaking from the hose connection (a lot -- big puddles on the floor). Maybe I got a bad one -- if Sylvane is willing to replace it (and it's any better) I'll edit this (or add another comment).

Additionally, while the tank is easy to remove and replace (unlike some other dehumidifiers I've owned) I still haven't figured out a way to empty it without making a mess. There's a lot of structural material inside the tank that traps the water and makes it hard to empty. Sloppy design.

Comments about Danby DDR70A2GP 70 Pint Dehumidifier:

As noted above, used in the basement. Much quieter than my old one. I cannot hear this one in the living space above the basement.

Seems to dehumidify quite effectively which would suggest energy efficiency. However, the continuous run fan, even on low speed, has to detract from energy efficiency especially during the cooler, less humid months requiring much less dehumidification. Am I to turn it it off and on? The fan has to diminish some of energy savings from my fairly expensive investment in LED light bulbs.
Tricky getting a secure grasp on the somewhat unstable 1/2 base bucket. Almost a full spill once.

I would conditionally recommend this for seasonal use and, otherwise, unplug and put in storage, like a window A/C.

Comments about Danby DDR70A2GP 70 Pint Dehumidifier:

The Reviewer that gave a negative (two star) comment on the Danby 70 pint dehumidifier did not remove the shipping tape on the tank float. This is why the water exit valve for the hose connection is not activating. This causes water to enter the tank reservoir instead of exiting through the hose connection. Please read the set up instructions and remove all shipping tapes before using.

My experience with the Danby 70 pint dehumidifier has been excellent. A wonderful product. Efficient, high quality, great water removal, very portable and easy to setup.

Using in an unfinished basement of a farmhouse built in 1931. Removes the moisture and damp smell of a basement. Very efficient. Yes, hear it running from doorway upstairs, but really do not notice it as you get use to it being there. Really like the option of the bucket or drain. Will use the bucket to save on water to water flowers, etc. otherwise using drain in basement. Have had for about 3 months so cannot really make a comment on the performance record.

Have a smaller unit at my home for five years and works as well as the day it arrived. This larger model is in the basement of my building, a three story Victorian built in 1865. Never had a drop of water in the basement until about 3 months ago had a freak storm that dropped 13 inches of rain overnight and the water table rose as never before. Dehumidifier works 24 hours a day and is constantly filling, even though the water receded and no moisture is visible in the basement. Highly recommend!

Comments about Danby DDR70A2GP 70 Pint Dehumidifier:

I was looking around for a nice dehumifier that was going to accomplish two things: 1) be effective 2) was not going to break the bank.

I surfed the website and came up with Sylvane. Their product information was much more conplete than other sites and most importatnly they had the best price on the Danby 70 pint dehumidifer.

I use this to suck the water out of the air in my lower level and my goodness, it DOES just that. I hadn't realized how damp the lower level "still" gets after all 20 years and it's been finshed off for close to 20 years.

I don't understand other posters when they say this unit is noisey, unless they sleep or sit in the same room as the unit. It's easy to set up and either have it self drain or fill itself up and you pull the bucket and empty it.

All in all I highly recommend this dehumidifier and I also highly recommend purchasing the unit from Sylvane. Search around the website as I did, in fact I suggest it. With todays economy, one would do justice to ones self by doing just that...looking for the best price and the most perks.

Tried to use in bedroom area of about 900 sq.ft, but room got way too hot. It did pull out a lot of water, but raised room temperature many degrees. Lowering the a/c to compensate was not cost effective. Wish I could return this item. Not useful in south Florida. We had hoped to resolve an issue with new bamboo flooring which was tenting. Unsuccessful.
