I have two old dehumidifiers for my basement and bought this one because of the low temperature operation feature - one of my old ones was freezing over at 65°F. I have had this new unit for a month now and like it. The main drawback I found that it has compared to the old units is that it does not shut off when it reaches the desired humidity setting; it shuts off the condensor but continues to run the fan. So, I just shut it off at night and run it during the day. I do not use the timer option because it has to be reset every time anyway.

I liked that it came with a clear plastic 3-foot drain hose. My old unit has a cut off garden hose on it, which occasionally gets plugged. You can easily see through the clear plastic one, so that should not be a problem. It would have been better if the hose was longer, though, but you can always attach a garden hose to it anyway if that is a concern.

It has a nice digital readout that shows the current humidity and target setting, and you can scroll through the readout to get the temperature in both °F and °C.

Loud, Very Loud

I have a 20+ years Fridgidaire unit that's whisper quiet. I loaned the Fridgidaire unit and the bucket got lost. I read the review on the Fridgidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier and this unit. I bought this because of the pump feature. What a mistake, I don't know if the new Fridgidaire unit is any better, but DeLonghi is loud. I should have looked for the replacement bucket for the old Fridgidaire. I may just do that.... I regret my decision.

Comments about DeLonghi DD45E Dehumidifier:

I really like my DeLonghi dehumidifier. I like the read out options, the two fan speeds, which my two Whirlpool dehumidifiers do not have. It does an excellent job for me.

Comments about DeLonghi DD45E Dehumidifier:

I bought 1 last month for my basement & it works great. Last week I ordered another for the 1st floor what a difference you can feel just after 1 day. They run with a min noise level and can be either hand emptied or run out the back.

Good dehumidifier, but features could be better

Comments about DeLonghi DD45E Dehumidifier:

I've had the DeLonghi DD45 Dehumidifier for a few weeks now, and it is keeping my basement a lot drier than the 25-year-old dehumidifier (different brand) that it replaced. It was easy to set up and connect to my existing drain hose. The controls are simple to operate and set the desired humidity level. The fan runs all the time, but this seems to help move the moist air to the machine better than if the fan was only on when the compressor was running. The noise level is tolerable at the low fan speed.

On the down side, the timer feature is basically useless because it does not cycle between the off and on times. I thought that I would be able to set up a schedule to run the unit a couple of hours, then have it turn off a couple of hours, and then continue the cycle throughout the day. However, the timer only works one time, and then you have to reset it. Additionally, (as far as I can tell) the unit will not turn itself back on if it loses power. If I go on vacation for a week and the house loses power on the first day I will come back to a very humid basement!

Overall, I recommend this dehumidifier for anyone who wants to run it all the time in a basement. It has done that job very well for me so far. However, if you want more control over how and when it operates, you might want to look for a more advanced model.
