Delonghi PAC N120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
Product Overview

The DeLonghi PACA120E Portable Air Conditioner quickly cools rooms up to 400 square feet and comes equipped with several functions that make operation easy and low maintenance. Its 3 operating modes are supplemented with no-drip technology, an adjustable thermostat, 24-hour timer, and much more. This unit truly takes the work out of cooling medium- to large-sized spaces.

Multiple Modes and Functions

The DeLonghi A120E—also known as the Delonghi Pinguino PAC A120E—offers 3 operating modes and 3 additional operating functions that make this model versatile and energy efficient.

  • Cool Mode: 12,000 BTUs of cooling power help cool large rooms, offices, or basements.

  • Dry Mode: Reduce room humidity by removing excess moisture from the air.

  • Fan Mode: Circulate air to keep your room comfortable without using a lot of energy. Low, medium, high, and an auto-speed are all included (auto speed selects a fan speed for you).

  • Smart Function:  Your AC uses Cool and Fan mode based on ambient room temperature. This function will also select your fan speed and keeps your room comfortable without wasting energy.

  • Sleep Function: Using a low fan speed, the AC gradually reduces operation so your room remains comfortable but the AC runs more quietly and efficiently while you sleep.

  • Boost Function: This function is ideal for the summer months and uses the maximum fan speed to rapidly reduce your room temperature.

Useful Features

Using DeLonghi’s patented no-drip technology, this unit is "dripless" under normal conditions, meaning the AC will discharge all of the moisture collected from the air—so you typically won’t have to worry about draining the water. When dehumidifying a lot of moisture in Dry mode, excess water may collect in the internal collection tank. Once the tank is full, the air conditioner will automatically turn off to avoid overflow damage. You can also use the included continuous drain hose as a no-fuss way to eliminate excess water as needed.

An adjustable thermostat provides additional convenience by allowing you to set your room temperature. The DeLonghi portable AC will cycle on and off to eliminate over-cooling and maintain the set temperature.

Additional Features

  • Washable Air Filter: A washable air filter helps remove allergens and other particles from incoming air and saves you money on replacement filters.

  • Quiet Operation: High efficiency compressor and components result in quiet performance.

  • Electronic Controls: The LCD screen displays the timer and temperature settings, while intuitive indicator lights accompany each operating mode.

  • 24-Hour Timer: This feature lets you program your AC to turn on or off up to 24 hours in advance, so it only runs when needed.

  • Window Bracket: Double window bracket is included with purchase for flexible installation.

  • Self-Diagnosis System: The unit includes a self-diagnostic maintenance system that identifies malfunctions should they occur.

  • Remote Control: Use the full-featured remote control to change modes, set the timer, and select a fan speed up to 23 feet away from the receiver (on the front of the unit).

  • Portability: Easy-roll casters and dual carrying handles make it simple to move this model from space to space.

I have had this unit for 2 years now. The first year, it worked perfect; the second year, it started to leak. I read the reviews and it seems to be a common problem. The manual is no help in how to remedy the problem. I searched through the internet to find how to fix this problem. I finally found a person on the internet who knew what they were speaking of; I took off the panel on the right side of the unit (back view) and there is a small hole where the water should be running into. You must put a small wire down that hole to remove any obstructions, then pour bleach through it.

Also, I never cleaned the filter because there was never any dirt on the filter, but when I took off the panel there is a filter on the unit that was collecting all the dust. I vacummed that part of the unit, reassembled the panels, started up the unit and no more leaks -- and that has been 3 weeks ago. The unit sometimes takes a long time to cool off the room on very hot days, but I realized it is best not to turn off the unit when it is extremely hot, thinking the unit needs to rest from working through the night. It needs to stay on to keep the room comfortable and I also have a ceiling fan to assist with air circulation.

When we first got this unit we were amazed at how it was convienant and cool. I learned the hard way. The unit released so much water during the night that it soaked my carpet so bad. The damage was at leased five feet long and three feet wide. It damaged my living room ceiling as well. As I am googling right now how I can save my smelly warped carpet I came across write a review. DO NOT BUY this unit. It will fool you but long and behold it will leak and ruin what ever its under. I am disgusted by the smell of white vinegar and baking soda trying to clean my carpet that I can not afford to change. This unit was enough money not to do this. Please invest in another unit. Save yourself the scrubbing and construction ahead of time.

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

This unit is good for basic cooling needs. The hand book is terrible! I own the Delonghi PAC A120 LE (ECO). Some of the things the book does not explain is how to clear a clogged drain hole, how to clean the sides of the unit as they become clogged with dust, animal hair, etc, and how to properly hook a drain hose to the back of the unit so it will drain correctly.

The first year my unit worked great, but it needs regular maintenance if you want it to still run. I would say every couple months take off both side panels and use a vacuum to clean it out. Also take the pull out filter off the back and clean that as well. Make sure and hook a small drain hose to the back so it can properly drain. My unit began leaking and then forced me to take a closer look. When this happen I took the side panel off. If your looking at the back of the unit it will be on the right side panel. Take the 6 screws our then slide the panel down and it should come off. Once off look at the white tray and it should be totally filled with water if you were having the leaking problem. Get a small wire and insert it slightly into the hole. Once this is done hopefully the water will drain. (Mine did). Then get a pipe cleaner and stick it slightly in the hole to get any loose particulates out. A review I read on here then said to cycle bleach through it but I did not want to do this. After I cleaned the hole out it worked fine.

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

We hired a contractor to install the vent through a brick wall - like a dryer vent. Its perfect as there is a vent cover included for winter time. Our windows are not double hung so no unit can be used with our windows without a direct vent through the exterior wall. There should be some kind of warning or advice listed so customers know this.

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

Nowhere in the manual does it say to periodically empty the machine. An error message is suppose to come on to tell you to empty an internal tank. Where did it say it had an internal tank? Carpet's ruined, room smells moldy. Buy a washer drip pan for underneath in case your message doesnt come on, save your room.

I got good use of product for about two years then the leaks began-all over my oak floors in my office. I had it repaired only to have it begin leaking again the next year. I see this is a common problem. 'This unit needs to be dropped as it is poorly desingned.

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

The first year we used this on our boat it worked great, just as was advertised.
The second year we had water every where. After reading some reviews on this site and some sollutions I did what any man would do, I took the dam thing apart. After removing all of the shell, I found there was a small reservoir on top that should drain into the lower reservoir. As the top on gets clogged it overflows all over.
Just clean the hole out and you are set. I also had to put a drain line on the lower one because it still leaked. Now that I know what I have to do it is easy. This thing realy does a great job of cooling down a 37' Boat.

          Frequently Asked Questions
My window measures 48 inches long. Will the window kit fit my window?
The window kit for this model extends to a maximum length of 38 inches. To properly install this AC in your window, you'll need use an additional window kit to reach 48 inches. To order an additional window kit, please contact our air treatment specialists at 800-934-9194. Alternatively, if you use 1 window kit, you can use another material such as Plexiglas or plywood to close the 10-inch opening.
Can I use this AC without the ventilation hose?
The exhaust hose must be used for proper operation. All portable ACs exhaust hot air as part of the cooling process. The exhaust hose is used to direct this hot air out of the space you are cooling and ensure operating efficiency. If the hose is not used, the exhausted air will counteract the cooling process and make the AC work harder to cool your space, using more energy and leading to higher energy costs.
Can I vent this AC out of sliding glass door?
This model can be vented through a sliding glass door. To do this, you would use the provided window kit to fill part of the door opening. Open space above or below the window kit can be closed with Plexiglas, plywood, plastic sheeting, insulation, or another material that can be cut to a custom fit. DeLonghi does not offer an adapter kit specifically for sliding glass doors, but using 2 window kits can sometimes create a longer fixture that would fill the space left open by the door. To order an additional window kit, please contact our air treatment specialists at 800-934-9194.
Does this model include a Heat mode?
This unit doesn't include a Heat mode. To view a similar model that includes heat, please view the Delonghi N130HPE 13000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heat.
