I found this to be an efficient heater that provides, soft, slow heat rather then hot heat. It takes a while for this heater to get going -- it takes about an hour before you can even tell it is on -- but with how soft the heat is, it is surprising that it still manages to really warm up my whole apartment(I use no other heat source - this heater is heating about 850 square feet effortlessly -- and I keep it on a rather low setting). The heater itself remains warm to the touch -- but not hot enough to burn or cause any major discomfort -- the heat exits the top of the heater -- a little like a forced air heater with the vent on the top -- so if your brushed your leg up against the side of the heater, you would know it, but it would be no problem. I like the anti-freeze function -- which allows you to set the heater so it just turns on when it drops below 52 farh -- it was handy when I went away in December. I do however find the heater puts some kind of metal in the air (this may go away with time-- it has been about a month now) -- at first I could smell and taste the metal, now I can just taste the metal in the morning when I wake up. I also found this heater. like all portable heaters, VERY VERY drying -- I would be very wary about running this heater around infants, small children, animals and elderly people, as they all can suffer from dehydration more then an adult human in their prime. I personally got headaches from the heater until I placed a large bucket of water by the heater (and eventually got a humidifier to battle the dryness)and I keep the window open a little bit as well. I do like this heater, however I am still on the look out for a heater that does it all -- an efficient heater that provides heat & humidity.

I have several other delonghi radiators. When considering the purchase this time, I found there were too many models to choose from and their vague descriptions made it difficult to choose one. My OLDEST one is the one I like best. It puts out the most heat even at the lowest setting and is simple to set.
The above recent purchase is the one I like LEAST and I wish I hadn't bought it!! What I like the least is the "thermostat" dial. It's stiff and difficult to set. The other models just have a dial (1 and up settings to use). One of my models has very small numbers set in a window and is also difficult to view and thus set without a flashlight. Also, I wish the plugs on all of them were 3 prong. The only compliment I have for the newest model, which is the one being reviewed, is it's prettier with the flat "tube\" but it not reason enough to choose it over the other ones.

Love this product. It is the only one I've found that will heat a large space! My bedroom is over the garage which makes it very cool plus there is a sitting area attached. I was giving up hope finding a heater that would make the area comfortable. I am very pleased to have found a heater that does this and was such a reasonable price. Thank you very much. MBW

Works as expected. Took a few uses to get the smell out of the heater.

This product came highly recommended by a friend who uses his in a garage conversion. Since it works so well for him, I didn't hesitate to purchase one for myself. I use my to off-set my natural gas usage during the winter months. While it does cost more in electricity, my gas bill has not been near as high as it was last year. The unit provides constant, comfortable heating and I could not be more pleased.

But, my "shopping" on line, one Saturday, I found your DeLonghi Oil-Filled Radiator Heaters!
Occupying a lg. mobile home in the New Hampshire area, my propane heating bills were so high that some remedy was urgently needed. I thought, first, of space heaters; the computer SOON led me to your DeLonghi Heaters, however even though DeLonghi heaters are not space heaters, strictly speaking.
The de989 DeLonghi oil-filled radiators proved to be unexpectedly cost-efficient," so much so that, with my first purchase (I've just purchased another-- a DeLonghi de540), it cost me only $10.00 to heat my bedroom for the entire month of April, 2008.
When speaking to my fuel-providing Company, the salesgirl told me, "At this time last year, you still had two more deliveries." (To myself, I said, "That's what you think,") and went on line to do some shopping.
The one I just ordered, de540, a more powerful model, will be utilized in my living room close to the thermostat. I remedied the short-cord problem by purchasing the required heavy-duty extension cord (6 ft.) so that it will reach to get placed under the thermostat there. So, until it is very cold, the thermostat remains at 30 (preventing the furnace to ignite only briefly at times). This way I'll utilize the propane only when it is absolutely necessary, expecting unexpected savings this coming winter.

Chicago winters can be brutal and in the past month, our furnace has gone out two times. The first time, we stayed with friends who had the Delonghi space heater in the room we stayed in and we were shocked at how quiet the heater was and how warm we felt! Our heat went out two days ago and we borrowed their heater to keep our room warm so we could stay home this time, we were so amazed that we purchased two for our own home. You cannot even hear that it is on - it is completely quiet. It warms a good size room quickly and thoroughly. We can't rave enough! If you need a portable heat source, look no further.
