After extensive research, I purchased the Dimplex DCH4831L heater to heat my two car (25 x 20) garage. Garage is fully insulated (walls and ceiling - R13 in both) and on days where it is 5 degrees outside, this little heater raises the temperature inside my garage from 35 - 40 degrees to a comfortable 65 - 70 degrees in about an hour. I do run a cheap, little desk fan, situate on the opposite side of the garage, at the same time to help circulate the air, although it doesn't need it...the blower on the heater is more than capable. I added the fan about a week after I started using the heater and just point it towards the ceiling to help blow the warm air residing up there back down to the ground level. Don't know the impact to my electric bill yet, but since I only turn it on when I am in the garage working on projects like changing the oil, woodworking, metal working, etc., this heater is perfect.
The built in thermostat works too. When it reaches the set point, the heater turns off and then back on when temp in garage drops back down. The thermostat does not have temperature settings, only number settings (0, 1, 2, 3, etc.) so you have to adjust it according to how warm you want to feel or an external thermometer (I use a thermometer setting on my work bench). I have not left it on for extended periods because it gets it way too hot to be comfortable....had the garage up to 78 degrees on a day it was 25 degrees outside!!! Would highly recommend for non-continuous heating needs in a garage or workshop. Sylvane shipped it very quickly and it arrived new in box in perfect working condition!!! Would buy again in a heartbeat.
