This is an excellent product... We purchased our 1st one many years ago and it is still working without any problems.. It is in a very cool, damp underground area and it has kept the moisture out so we now can utilized the area for storage. We now have purchased another to use in a similar space in another building... Comments about Ebac CD60 Dehumidifier:
I bought this machine about 5 years ago. It worked great but then broke. I spent $500 fixing it. Then it broke again. EBAC sent a free part to the local HVAC company but it still cost me $150 for labor. It just broke again. Guess where it's going this time... to the dump Guess where I'm, going this time... to another manufacturer.
Comments about Ebac CD60 Dehumidifier:
The unit has been operating about a month now and runs great. Relatively small footprint given it's capacity. Has reduced the humidity in my crawl space (~900 sq ft) significantly and with little effort (from ~65% down to 40% at 55 degree ambient temperature). Unit initially ran fairly constant for a few days but now just cycles on and off periodically to maintain the humidity level. Operates quietly and automatic pump discharges condensate without issue (my discharge line runs approx. 20 ft).
Comments about Ebac CD60 Dehumidifier:
I purchased an Ebac CD60 in 2005 to use in my basement for dehumidification, as I have a lot of tools and equipment there. I wanted a commercial machine that would be reliable.
The machine is heavy/substantial, feels about 60-70lbs. The outside coating is durable and the metal used is thick and heavy, not thin sheet metal. There is a dial to adjust humidification and it works well, going as low as 10 percent. The pump works well to drain water via a long hose that is provided. I pumped the water out at a 25 ft. distance with 4 foot elevation with no difficulty. The pump does need periodic cleaning, as dirt will clog it and it will start leaking around the bottom of the dehumidifier. The process to clean it is straightforward, though it is not described in the manual. I called Ebac and they explained how to remove the pump to clean it, which is about a 10 minute process. The pump is louder than I would have expected, but in comparison to other Ebac dehumidifiers, it is on the lower decibel level.
The machine lasted only about 4-5 years then started to have an oil leak. Prior to that, it started malfunctioning, running around the clock and not dehumidifying well. Ebac only provides a 1 year warranty. I would have expected a longer one for such an expensive commercial machine that is supposed to be durable. Ebac customer service was not very helpful. I was initially told that the repair would cost around $200. They told me (and it states in the manual as well) that any HVAC company can service it. That is not the case. I had a major company in Atlanta come to service it and they did not know how and needed to do some more "research."
I subsequently went to a person recommended by Ebac and he stated that it would cost $800-900 to repair. When addressing the price discrepancy with Ebac, their only suggestion was to send the machine to Ebac for a free diagnostic, which would be a very high shipping fee due to the machine's weight, likely in the $100-150 range. I ending up just throwing it away.
I ended up next getting a Frigidaire Dehumidifier, 70-Pint Capacity, FAD704TDP from Amazon.com for 179.99. It comes with a 1 year warranty, removes more water than the CD60 (70 pints versus 55) and is much quieter. It does not have a pump, but I drain mine to the condensate removal pump of my HVAC (or you can buy one from Amazon for about $40 - Little Giant).
Comments about Ebac CD60 Dehumidifier:
We have an industrial pump station that is a very damp environment. Condensation use to form on the pipes and walls until we installed the Ebac CD60. Within two weeks the unit had the moisture under control. This is an outstanding unit and will greatly increase the longevity of other equipment in the station.
