The Ebac Neptune looks great from a build perspective. Heavy duty top notch parts, attention to detail during assembly. Aside from the rubber feet which fall off easily, (in fact 2 of the feet were just laying their in the bottom of the box when it arrived, a third fell off the next day) you just have every reason to expect it will perform well. But, that's where the good stuff ends. It's all show and no go.

It's rated 51 pints at 80 degrees, 60% humidity. Now, I know from past purchases of dehumidifiers not to expect but about 50% of the rated value. The manufacturers play fast and loose with their ratings. I would have been satisfied getting 25 pints in a day. At 75 degrees 60% this unit should, according to its rating, put out at least 40 pints in a day. However, in my tests, at 75 degrees, 60% I got no more than 8 pints in a day (20% of what it should do).

I carefully measured temperature, relative humidity (wet bulb/dry bulb/pressure and also with a hygrometer), and output. I'm not sure how they came up with 51 pints, but it probably should have been rated at 15 to 17 pints (which is still being generous compared to what it actually does). If you have a room that's closed up, and is no more than 300 square feet, and you don't need to pull the humidity down below 52% or so, then this will probably work for you, albeit at a great cost.

What I wanted when I ordered this, was a unit that would last a long time and perform at least modestly. It may last (time will tell) but for sure, it does not perform.

I purchased a Neptune Ebac dehumidifier some years back. It worked non-stop for over 5 years in my wet 2,000 SF south Florida garage. I just bought another one and hope to get 5 more years. It works in cold weather and it works with the doors opening all the time keeping a fairly steady state of 50 percent RH.

I needed a replacement unit for my basement and the Neptune was the most suitable unit. It is attractive, quiet and easy to move around. It was the best deal, considering cost, capacity and efficiency. The only down side is that it has no built-in humidistat. I am using a Honeywell wall-mounted dehumidistat for control. I bought the Neptune at the end of summer, so it hasn't experienced the most demanding environment yet. But during winter testing, it was able to pull the humidity down from about 50% to 30% in 24 hours.
