Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a strong odor. Resins containing formaldehyde are commonly used to manufacture building materials and other common household products such as plywood, fabrics and carpeting. Health effects due to exposure to formaldehyde include watery eyes, burning of the eyes, nose and throat, wheezing, skin rashes and coughing. These effects can result either from a high level of formaldehyde in the air, or due to increased sensitivity to even low levels of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is also listed as a probable human carcinogen by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
This consumer testing kit is an economical way to screen your home or workplace for the presence of formaldehyde. This kit is simple to use and provides top-quality test results.
Testing Procedure
The testing kit will be mailed to you complete with everything needed to complete the test. The Formaldehyde Screen Test uses a patented badge product to collect the sample from your home. Step-by-step instructions included in the kit contain a detailed explanation of how to use the badge and take the sample. Once testing begins, the badge will collect sample data for 24-hours. You may either clip the badge you a single person to test personal exposure, or you may place the badge in one location to measure room exposure. Once sampling is complete, the collection badge is then mailed to the Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory. A pre-addressed envelope is included in the kit. You can expect to receive results within 7 to 10 business days after the sample is received by the lab.
Expert Results
After the sample is received by the laboratory, it will be analyzed using the very highest quality equipment. A report of findings will then be generated and mailed back for you. These results will identify at what concentration formaldehyde was detected. A summary of recommended actions based on your findings will also be included. A toll free number is provided by the lab for any questions you may have about your results.
