ONE, I placed an order @11AM on 9/19/11. I received my Friedrich dehumidifier on 9/20/11 @3PM. TWO, The instructions are very clear. THREE, the installation was very simple, and I had it running in a few minutes FOUR,the fan and the compressor are very quiet, along with the unit being very compact and easy to move around. FIVE, I have been using many Makes of Dehumidifiers for more than 40 years. I cannot recall any one of them giving me all of the above, and at a great price. Needless to say I AM HAPPY!! REN SR.

We live in South Texas on the Gulf coast where the outside humidity runs 70% or higher. So, we use dehumidifiers year round. This dehumidifier is quiet when used on low fan setting. It can be used in living areas and really not disturb people. It is much quiter than other brands we have used over the years. On high setting, it is pretty noisy, but it does move a lot of air.
This unit also seem to work faster than similiar
rated brands. It is efficient enough to keep our entire condo dehumidified.
The pump works well when connected. It can drain outside or into a sink. It is simple to set up and connect and disconnect. It automatically drains and requires no button to push. It does not leak. This is the main reason I chose to purchase this particular unit. I love not having to constantly empty a bucket. If you do choose to use the bucket, is it well sized and easy to empty.
There is a problem with this unit's humidity control. Once it gets the area to the proper humidity, it constantly cycles the compressor every 2-3 minutes. After the compressor shuts off, the humidity control rapidly creeps up causing the unit to turn on. Once room air circulates through the machine it again registers the correct humidity and turns itself off again. It is very annoying. I had to buy a timer and regulate the on/off with a timer rather than rely on the unit's humidity control. For this reason, I would probably not recommend this to a friend or buy another unit of this brand.

Comments about Friedrich D50BP Dehumidifier:
I went back and forth between this model of humidifier and one from Frigidaire, but ultimately decided on this one because of good reviews and the pump option. So far, it's done the job. I have a garage that has excessive moisture because it's below ground. I used a digital hygrometer to measure the humidity and it was originally reading 82%, but after running this humidifier overnight I was reading around 60%. The drain bucket was more than half full.
Next, I want to setup the continuous drain option. This unit comes with a pump built-in which, for other units, would cost about $50 extra. I don't have the benefit of a nearby drain, but will be setting this up to pump across the room to a sink. It comes with everything you need to set this up.
Easy to install, easy to setup, and works as expected. Only drawback is a bit of fan noise and wouldn't have minded a longer power cord.

Bought this item after I found mold growing on my shoes. Found out that the humidity was too high. This product works well. It's amazing how much water it pulls out of the air. Have not used the automatic drain feature yet. Our bathroom vent is questionable so we run this for a few hours every time we take a shower. Only negative it that when it reaches the set humidity it cycles on and off rather frequently about every 5 minutes. The company should have it so that it only turns back on if the humidity reaches 5% above the setpoint. Pleased with the product and with the purchase from Sylvane. Thank you.

Comments about Friedrich D50BP Dehumidifier:
My reasons for purchasing a Friedrich dehumidifier are a little different than some of the other reviewers. Several years ago I lived in CA, but I moved back to AL to be closer to family. I loved the low humidity of CA, and since moving back to the South, my allergies are a lot worse, and I often find it difficult to breathe, especially in the Spring and Summer months. During the transition seasons when my HVAC is not running, the humidity in my house will routinely get above 60% (which creates a wonderful environment for dust mites, one of the enemies of allergy sufferers). I bought both 50-pint and 70-pint Friedrich dehumidifiers to help lower the humidity in my home. The 50-pint is in my master bedroom / bathroom / walk-in closet area, and the 70-pint is in the entrance area of my home near the front door and laundry room. I bought the Friedrich units because of the positive reviews and due to the company's expertise in the area of designing units with compressors (air conditioners, dehumidifiers). So far, they are working very well and pull a lot of moisture out of the air. The 50-pint and 70-pint units are both identical sizes, and I assume the 70-pint unit has a little larger compressor. The noise-level of the units while running and set to low fan speed is equivalent to a box fan set on medium or high. I have only been manually emptying the reservoir housed on the front of the unit (it is not difficult), but will probably soon use the internal condensate pump to exhaust moisture to my bathtub drain or washer drain (so less daily maintenance will be required). The control interface is digital and allows you to manually set fan sped, view room temperature, and set desired humidity level. Compared to an Acu-rite hygrometer located nearby, I find that setting the Friedrich humidity level to 45% results in a lower sensed-humidity by the Acu-rite (which shows ~41%). The control of the unit is very easy. When the desired humidity level is reached, the unit will cycle on every 5 mins or so and the fan will run for around 30 seconds in order to accurately measure the room's humidity. I don't find the noise oppressive, but I do turn the unit in my bedroom off while I sleep (the white noise relaxes me, but it can be distracting since the fan/compressor cycles on and off). I decided to go with these standalone units rather than a whole-home dehumidifier due to cost, but when it comes time for me to replace my HVAC, I will choose a model that gives me humidity control in addition to temperature control. I believe having the ability to lower the humidity in my home due to the high humidity in AL (which can occur in every single month of the year) will make for a more comfortable living space and will make it easier for me to breathe and keep my home cleaner.

I use this in my finished basement to keep humidity down in the Summer. It goes right to a drain - I have no complaints about it, compared to others I have had over the years it is quiet and does its job. My last couple were big box store units and I was not impressed.

Comments about Friedrich D50BP Dehumidifier:
We've had the most humid summer (and now early fall) in memory. August was almost intolerable w/ 90%+ humidity all day and all night nearly every single day.
I put this dehumidifier in the center of the house near the largest central air intake, and in concert w/ the central A.C., within a couple of days it lowered the indoor humidity from intolerable to about 60%. The A.C. became much more efficient, sweat began to evaporate and I was able to turn the termostat up. Then after 5 days or so indoor humidity was down below 50%, and now this dehumidifier holds the indoor humidity to around 40%.
The Fredrich dehumidifier is also remarkably consistent, dehumidifing at nearly the same rate, 50 pints per day, at 40%+ indoor humidity that it does when indoor humidity is 60% and 80%.
I compare this Fredrich to the popular Soleus 70 pint model with the flat front that someone I know very well bought at about the same time I got the Fredrich. His Soleus dehumidified like crazy when the indoor humidity was 80%+ (70 pints or even more), but as the humidity dropped the Soleus' effectiveness fell off precipitiously. At 65% indoor humidity the Soleus was condensing at half the initial rate (35 pints or so) and at 55% indoor humidity the Soleus 70pint condenses a mere 25 or so pints per day. OTOH the Fredrich continues to condense a consistent 50 pints per day down to around 42% indoor humidity.
While not especially loud, it would be nice if the Fredrich was a bit quieter. And a sturdier bucket would be good for when you want to dump it manually instead of using the auto-pump-hose method.
