  • Product Overview

The Friedrich D50BP Dehumidifier combats excess moisture in the air and provides intuitive humidity control. This portable dehumidifier allows you to set your ideal humidity level and the 24-hour timer provides easy set-and-go operation. The Friedrich 50-Pint Dehumidifier operates in temperatures as low as 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Multiple Drainage Options

The Friedrich D50BP 50-Pint Dehumidifier has three methods for draining collected moisture. The first option allows you to manually drain the water condensate bucket. The removable drain bucket holds 16.2 pints of water and easily pulls out from the front of the dehumidifier for simple drainage.

To avoid having to constantly empty the drain bucket manually, you can take advantage of the continuous drain method or use the built-in condensate pump. A drain hose is included with the dehumidifier for continuous drain operation. The drain hose connects to the back of the dehumidifier and must be placed horizontally so collected moisture can be gravity drained. Additionally, you can pump excess water to another location up to 15 feet away from the dehumidifier using the internal condensate pump.

    User-Friendly Control Panel

The Friedrich D50BP 50-Pint Dehumidifier features user-friendly electronic controls and digital display, making it simple to use and easy to operate. Monitor your room temperature and room humidity with ease using the two digital display screens on the control panel. The first display screen shows the current room temperature during normal operation and it displays the timer setting when the timer button is pressed. The second digital screen displays the relative humidity during normal operation and it shows your desired humidity level when you adjust the humidity setting.

    Intuitive Maintenance Features

In addition to easy-to-understand controls, the Friedrich 50-Pint Dehumidifier features convenient indicators for easy maintenance and optimum performance. The bucket full indicator will illuminate on the display panel when the water condensate bucket is full. To prevent damage to your dehumidifier or an overflow of water in your home, the unit will automatically shut down until the drain bucket is emptied and properly replaced.

The Friedrich D50BP 50-Pint Dehumidifier also features automatic defrost mode, which is very beneficial for low-temperature operation. When the dehumidifier is operating in temperatures less than 41 degrees Fahrenheit, frost can begin to build up on the evaporator coils. To keep the dehumidifier running normally and efficiently, the defrost indicator will illuminate and the system will automatically start the defrost cycle.

    Additional Features

    • Easy Mobility: Four rolling casters and two side-grip carry handles make it easy to transport this dehumidifier from room to room.
    • Reusable Filter: The Friedrich 50-Pint D50BP Dehumidifier includes a washable air filter that easily slides out of the front panel.
    • Electronic Controls: The digital screens display the timer and temperature settings, so you can monitor the humidity level in your space and maintain a comfortable room temperature.
    • Temperature Selector: This Friedrich dehumidifier allows you to choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature display.
    • Multiple Fan Speeds: This portable dehumidifier is equipped with a two-speed fan.
    • Adjustable Humidity: A built-in humidistat allows you to set your ideal humidity level from 30% to 90% relative humidity in increments of 5%.

    Summary

The Friedrich D50BP 50-Pint Dehumidifier eliminates damaging excess humidity in basements and other rooms and does it conveniently with a range of user-friendly features.

    What Customers Love

    • Easy Adjustable Humidity - Set your desired humidity and the dehumidifier maintains that level without intervention.
    • 3 Draining Methods - Drain the dehumidifier how you like. Choose from manual, gravity, or pump draining to suit the needs of your space.

    Things To Consider

    • Some Noise on High - Customers report that the unit is a bit loud on high. You may want to consider running it on low when you're in the room and switching it to a higher speed (if needed) when you exit.

My reasons for purchasing a Friedrich dehumidifier are a little different than some of the other reviewers. Several years ago I lived in CA, but I moved back to AL to be closer to family. I loved the low humidity of CA, and since moving back to the South, my allergies are a lot worse, and I often find it difficult to breathe, especially in the Spring and Summer months. During the transition seasons when my HVAC is not running, the humidity in my house will routinely get above 60% (which creates a wonderful environment for dust mites, one of the enemies of allergy sufferers). I bought both 50-pint and 70-pint Friedrich dehumidifiers to help lower the humidity in my home. The 50-pint is in my master bedroom / bathroom / walk-in closet area, and the 70-pint is in the entrance area of my home near the front door and laundry room. I bought the Friedrich units because of the positive reviews and due to the company's expertise in the area of designing units with compressors (air conditioners, dehumidifiers). So far, they are working very well and pull a lot of moisture out of the air. The 50-pint and 70-pint units are both identical sizes, and I assume the 70-pint unit has a little larger compressor. The noise-level of the units while running and set to low fan speed is equivalent to a box fan set on medium or high. I have only been manually emptying the reservoir housed on the front of the unit (it is not difficult), but will probably soon use the internal condensate pump to exhaust moisture to my bathtub drain or washer drain (so less daily maintenance will be required). The control interface is digital and allows you to manually set fan sped, view room temperature, and set desired humidity level. Compared to an Acu-rite hygrometer located nearby, I find that setting the Friedrich humidity level to 45% results in a lower sensed-humidity by the Acu-rite (which shows ~41%). The control of the unit is very easy. When the desired humidity level is reached, the unit will cycle on every 5 mins or so and the fan will run for around 30 seconds in order to accurately measure the room's humidity. I don't find the noise oppressive, but I do turn the unit in my bedroom off while I sleep (the white noise relaxes me, but it can be distracting since the fan/compressor cycles on and off). I decided to go with these standalone units rather than a whole-home dehumidifier due to cost, but when it comes time for me to replace my HVAC, I will choose a model that gives me humidity control in addition to temperature control. I believe having the ability to lower the humidity in my home due to the high humidity in AL (which can occur in every single month of the year) will make for a more comfortable living space and will make it easier for me to breathe and keep my home cleaner.

We live in South Texas on the Gulf coast where the outside humidity runs 70% or higher. So, we use dehumidifiers year round. This dehumidifier is quiet when used on low fan setting. It can be used in living areas and really not disturb people. It is much quiter than other brands we have used over the years. On high setting, it is pretty noisy, but it does move a lot of air.
This unit also seem to work faster than similiar
rated brands. It is efficient enough to keep our entire condo dehumidified.
The pump works well when connected. It can drain outside or into a sink. It is simple to set up and connect and disconnect. It automatically drains and requires no button to push. It does not leak. This is the main reason I chose to purchase this particular unit. I love not having to constantly empty a bucket. If you do choose to use the bucket, is it well sized and easy to empty.
There is a problem with this unit's humidity control. Once it gets the area to the proper humidity, it constantly cycles the compressor every 2-3 minutes. After the compressor shuts off, the humidity control rapidly creeps up causing the unit to turn on. Once room air circulates through the machine it again registers the correct humidity and turns itself off again. It is very annoying. I had to buy a timer and regulate the on/off with a timer rather than rely on the unit's humidity control. For this reason, I would probably not recommend this to a friend or buy another unit of this brand.

I had hope that the Friedrich brand was more reliable but it is as unreliable as other brands (I had a LG and a DeLongi with the same lifespan before).
Luckily I have purchased the ServicePro 3-year Warranty.

After doing my homework deciding which unit to buy, I decided on this model. It was a good decision. It runs quiet enough for its use for the rarely used basement. Runs quiet enough and I like the digital display. The only downside is the awkward removal of the full bucket. Still,I would buy this product.

Very happy with this choice. This is quieter than my previous humidifier. Fan runs only during dehumidification, not constantly like other brands. Attractive appearance. I like that the display includes temperature instead of just humidity. Also very impressed with Sylvane. The order was processed very quickly and arrived rightaway.

I too experienced the leak some people are referring to regarding the pump. I found that it leaks because the hose is not tight enough on the stem. After removing the hose from the stem, I took some plumbers white teflon pipe tape, wrapped it tightly about 4 or 5x around the stem, pushed the hose back on as far as it would go & voila! No more leak! Now works perfectly.

Works well in our finished basement. Quiet operation, and looks good.
But the "bucket" is difficult to pull out of the unit and the handle seems flimsy, so not easy to empty. Have not yet tried the automatic hose
emptying feature, because no drain in the room.
