Take control of humidity in your home with the Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier. This 70-pint dehumidifier features a built-in condensate pump and low-temperature operation. The Friedrich D70BP works great as a basement dehumidifier or as a portable dehumidifier for humidity control in various rooms. For energy-efficient and eco-friendly dehumidification, this dehumidifier uses R-410A refrigerant, which doesn’t contribute to ozone depletion.
The Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier has three methods for draining collected moisture. The first option allows you to manually drain the water condensate bucket. The removable drain bucket holds 16.2 pints of water and easily pulls out from the front of the dehumidifier for simple drainage.
To avoid having to constantly empty the drain bucket manually, you can take advantage of the continuous drain method or use the built-in condensate pump. A drain hose is included with the dehumidifier for continuous drain operation. The drain hose connects to the back of the dehumidifier and must be placed horizontally so collected moisture can be gravity drained. Additionally, you can pump excess water to another location up to 15 feet away from the dehumidifier using the internal condensate pump.
The Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier features user-friendly electronic controls and digital display, making it simple to use and easy to operate. Monitor your room temperature and room humidity with ease using the two digital display screens on the control panel. The first display screen shows the current room temperature during normal operation and it displays the timer setting when the timer button is pressed. The second digital screen displays the relative humidity during normal operation and it shows your desired humidity level when you adjust the humidity setting.
In addition to easy-to-understand controls, the Friedrich 70-Pint Dehumidifier features convenient indicators for easy maintenance and optimum performance. The bucket full indicator will illuminate on the display panel when the water condensate bucket is full. To prevent damage to your dehumidifier or an overflow of water in your home, the unit will automatically shut down until the drain bucket is emptied and properly replaced.
The Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier also features automatic defrost mode, which is very beneficial for low-temperature operation. When the dehumidifier is operating in temperatures less than 54 degrees Fahrenheit, frost can begin to build up on the evaporator coils. To keep the dehumidifier running normally and efficiently, the defrost indicator will illuminate and the system will automatically start the defrost cycle.

I bought this product as the first step to start "fixing" my basement. I did a lot of research and according with the requirements I needed, this was the first option.
While researching, the people at Sylvane customer service were very useful and kind to answer all my questions.
In regard the unit, very easy to install, even my son could have done it. Right out of the box, just a few things to put together, a few hoses and that is it. The built in pump is the greatest feature on this unit, no hassle to empty the bucket everytime it gets full....You just run the small drain hose to a drain location and forget about the bucket.
On the other side, the unit is not as noisy as it is said around, unit is more than quite and does the jobs as it was supposed to.
My basement had some serious problem after a big flood in Rhode Island this year, I decided to go for a french drain to fix the problem, but I first bought this unit and now I don't even think I would do the drain, probably with just a sump pump on a corner of the basement and this unit running together will do the job. After I ran the dehumidifier for a couple of days, the moisture smell kind of dissapear from my basement. At the same time, my floor used to sweat a lot and my finger could get wet by just running it thru the floor, now that wetness is completely gone.
I have to assume that I this unit is for a 1400 sf basement and my is only 900.
I highly recommend this unit to everyone.

Disappointed
Appears to be of quality construction. Was extremely disappointed that the "Full Bucket" LED stared blinking shortly after installing. It is on the way back to the supplier now.

Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
So far I am happy with this purchase. I bought this dehumidifier for my basement level in my small single story house. We live very close to the coastline in the SF Bay area where there can be quite a bit of moisture in the air causing condensation on house exteriors, and moist air will get in the houses through vents and cracks. So we wanted to get something that can handle the extra humidity, this Friedrich unit specs seemed to be a good fit.
The unit comes with a 15ft hose that connects to a built-in drain pump so you don't have to have a drain location that's lower than the dehumidifier unit itself (which is how most other residential dehumidifiers work and limits where the unit can be placed when you don't want to empty the bucket daily). It also has a conventional gravity type continuous drain if you don't need the pump. So far it's doing a decent job of removing humidity.
The controls are simple enough, with temperature and humidity readout. The fan kicks in only when it's dehumidifying, which is a good thing for me. We have had other brands where the fan is constant on, good for circulating air but annoying if the unit is near a living space. with the fan set to low, noise level seems okay, but on high it's a bit louder than I'd like. Also the fan exhaust points directly up, and is not adjustable, so it may not work as well for some situations where you don't want to have air blow directly upward.
Time will tell how reliable it is, but I am hoping Friedrich name means it's reliable and lasts a while. Seems like dehumidifiers in general don't last too long if used all the time, but I have my fingers crossed.

Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
I have a summer house by the beach and in July and August the humidity causes the finished basement floor to sweat. My problem is that I rent the house out during those months so I can't depend on weekly vacationing tenants to pay attention to a dehumidifier. So I wanted a good quality unit that is fully automatic, energy efficient and self draining. I spent some time on the net doing research and then I found the Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier here on Sylvane's site. I chose the D70BP because the space rating is a little more than I need and the buying guide recommends to go a little bigger than the 750 square feet I have. The features that really sold me are that the unit has a self pump out feature that empties the condensate through a hose to a drain up to 15 feet away and the unit has self restart and auto defrost. The self draining eliminated the need for anyone to pay attention to it so it's basically set it up and forget it. Auto restart is important because we frequently have power outages. Auto defrost is handy because that means the unit will operate in low ambient temperatures so I don't have to shut it down over the winter months. The guys at Friedrich really did a good job of putting together very useful features. This machine is perfectly suited to my summer home needs. Lastly, the 2 speed fan insures that the noise level will be very low so no one will be bothered by it. I'm looking forward to a dry floor this summer!

Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
this is my first dehumidifier purchase. I am a recent homeowner, and did a lot of online research before deciding on this model and retailer. I had no preference going in. I chose the D70BP for its condensate drain pump and price. It is being used in a 1200 sq. ft. basement. so far, I find this unit unable to reduce the humidity beyond 10 points of actual humidity, especially at the low end. I find the unit very quiet on low speed, and reasonably quiet on high. The pump is very effective, but runs a lot, evacuating what seems to be a small amount of water at a time. These are not complaints, just observations. I am pleased with this unit's operation overall.

Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
My reasons for purchasing a Friedrich dehumidifier are a little different than some of the other reviewers. Several years ago I lived in CA, but I moved back to AL to be closer to family. I loved the low humidity of CA, and since moving back to the South, my allergies are a lot worse, and I often find it difficult to breathe, especially in the Spring and Summer months. During the transition seasons when my HVAC is not running, the humidity in my house will routinely get above 60% (which creates a wonderful environment for dust mites, one of the enemies of allergy sufferers). I bought both 50-pint and 70-pint Friedrich dehumidifiers to help lower the humidity in my home. The 50-pint is in my master bedroom / bathroom / walk-in closet area, and the 70-pint is in the entrance area of my home near the front door and laundry room. I bought the Friedrich units because of the positive reviews and due to the company's expertise in the area of designing units with compressors (air conditioners, dehumidifiers). So far, they are working very well and pull a lot of moisture out of the air. The 50-pint and 70-pint units are both identical sizes, and I assume the 70-pint unit has a little larger compressor. The noise-level of the units while running and set to low fan speed is equivalent to a box fan set on medium or high. I have only been manually emptying the reservoir housed on the front of the unit (it is not difficult), but will probably soon use the internal condensate pump to exhaust moisture to my bathtub drain or washer drain (so less daily maintenance will be required). The control interface is digital and allows you to manually set fan sped, view room temperature, and set desired humidity level. Compared to an Acu-rite hygrometer located nearby, I find that setting the Friedrich humidity level to 45% results in a lower sensed-humidity by the Acu-rite (which shows ~41%). The control of the unit is very easy. When the desired humidity level is reached, the unit will cycle on every 5 mins or so and the fan will run for around 30 seconds in order to accurately measure the room's humidity. I don't find the noise oppressive, but I do turn the unit in my bedroom off while I sleep (the white noise relaxes me, but it can be distracting since the fan/compressor cycles on and off). I decided to go with these standalone units rather than a whole-home dehumidifier due to cost, but when it comes time for me to replace my HVAC, I will choose a model that gives me humidity control in addition to temperature control. I believe having the ability to lower the humidity in my home due to the high humidity in AL (which can occur in every single month of the year) will make for a more comfortable living space and will make it easier for me to breathe and keep my home cleaner.

Received my D70, got it out of the box and had it running within 15 minutes. The humidity in my large basement began to drop and declined steadily until excess humidity and odour were gone. The pump worked marvelously. And, when a workman broke the pump hose connector, I was able to acquire a replacement part by mail within a couple of days.
(Noise may be an issue if you use this unit in your living space.)
