  • Product Overview

Take control of humidity in your home with the Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier. This 70-pint dehumidifier features a built-in condensate pump and low-temperature operation. The Friedrich D70BP works great as a basement dehumidifier or as a portable dehumidifier for humidity control in various rooms. For energy-efficient and eco-friendly dehumidification, this dehumidifier uses R-410A refrigerant, which doesn’t contribute to ozone depletion.

    Three Water Removal Methods

The Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier has three methods for draining collected moisture. The first option allows you to manually drain the water condensate bucket. The removable drain bucket holds 16.2 pints of water and easily pulls out from the front of the dehumidifier for simple drainage.

To avoid having to constantly empty the drain bucket manually, you can take advantage of the continuous drain method or use the built-in condensate pump. A drain hose is included with the dehumidifier for continuous drain operation. The drain hose connects to the back of the dehumidifier and must be placed horizontally so collected moisture can be gravity drained. Additionally, you can pump excess water to another location up to 15 feet away from the dehumidifier using the internal condensate pump.

    Digital Display Screens

The Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier features user-friendly electronic controls and digital display, making it simple to use and easy to operate. Monitor your room temperature and room humidity with ease using the two digital display screens on the control panel. The first display screen shows the current room temperature during normal operation and it displays the timer setting when the timer button is pressed. The second digital screen displays the relative humidity during normal operation and it shows your desired humidity level when you adjust the humidity setting.

    Helpful Indicators and Automatic Defrost

In addition to easy-to-understand controls, the Friedrich 70-Pint Dehumidifier features convenient indicators for easy maintenance and optimum performance. The bucket full indicator will illuminate on the display panel when the water condensate bucket is full. To prevent damage to your dehumidifier or an overflow of water in your home, the unit will automatically shut down until the drain bucket is emptied and properly replaced.

The Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier also features automatic defrost mode, which is very beneficial for low-temperature operation. When the dehumidifier is operating in temperatures less than 41 degrees Fahrenheit, frost can begin to build up on the evaporator coils. To keep the dehumidifier running normally and efficiently, the defrost indicator will illuminate and the system will automatically start the defrost cycle.

    Additional Highlights

    • Easy Mobility: Four rolling casters and two side-grip carry handles make it easy to transport this portable dehumidifier from room to room.
    •
    • Reusable Filter: The Friedrich 70-Pint D70BP Dehumidifier includes a washable air filter that easily slides out of the front panel.
    •
    • Electronic Controls: The digital screens display the timer and temperature settings, so you can monitor the humidity level in your space and maintain a comfortable room temperature.
    •

I had a very damp basement over the summer due to an unusually humid season and a preference for not running the household air conditioner. Over time, a musty odor developed in my unfinished basement so I decided to research an appropriate dehumidifier. Reliability and capacity were my two primary concerns given the area to be conditioned is just under 1400 square feet. Affordability was also a concern.

After many hours of research on the web, I was somewhat disappointed with the reported reliability and features of the units I deemed affordable. As I was about to compromise on something that I wasn't totally satisfied with, I came across the Friedrich D70BP at Sylvane. The numbers seemed to meet my criteria and, after further review of available customer feedback, I couldn't find any real negatives and proceeded with the order.

Using the available free ground shipping offered by Sylvane, the unit arrived in great shape and sooner than I expected. At approximately 50 lbs, it is a solid, and from all appearances, well built piece of equipment. I had originally planned to use the gravity fed drain hose option rather than the built-in condensation drain pump. Upon inspection, the supplied hose for the passive drainage was just too short for my application. I did end up using the supplied 15 foot tubing in conjunction with the built-in condensation pump. This combination works very well and without issue.

Within the first few hours of operation, the D70BP brought the basement humidity down from 73% to approximately 58%. Over the next three days the desired 45% was achieved and the unit began cycling off and on as expected. Even on the high fan setting, the dehumidifier produces less noise than a whole-basement air cleaner that I once had running, so, this is not an issue for me.

The only negative so far is the inaccurate relative humidity indicated on the D70BP's digital display. While the temperature is accurate, the reported humidity is somewhat high. It's easy enough to get around this by using an independent humidity display somewhere in the room. Once you have an accurate reading, you can then set the D70BP's desired level relative to what it is displaying. Overall, not a major concern.

Time will test the unit's overall reliability, but so far it has delivered as advertised!

Bought this unit to use in a conditioned crawlspace that needed only moderate reduction in humidity from 51% to 45% The unit did this well, but it leaked out from the bottom, right out of removing from the box at initial install. After leveling perfectly and removing and reinstalling all drain plugs it seemed to stop leaking but then condensate pump runs continuously with a high pitched whine like a hair dryer. This was an intolerable amount of noise and carried up through house two floors. Friedrich customer service offered no useful advice, other than sending out a technician who would be from a service 30 miles away. If he couldn't fix it, I would still be on my own to remove unit, repackage and return or exchange. The unit is heavier than others with the same specifications. We returned this promptly. Be warned that the decibel rating might apply to the compressor, but not necesarily the condensate pump which creates its own noise.

    Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:

no compressor noise. fan noise quiet on low; a little louder on high. Similar fan noise to a large fan in your living room on low or high. Used in basement w/open stairway. Don't notice it's running until you go down the stairway. Easy to set up. Took humidity from 76% to 50% in a few hours on high fan in a 625 sq. ft. basement. Suggest oversizing unless in a confined space. Used continuous drain feature. There is an O-ring in the parts kit and nothing is said about it in the instructions; it seals like a hose gasket between the drain hose and the connector on the unit.

    Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:

Works well in our basement. The adjustable humidistat allows unit to not run all the time like our 30+ year old previous unit. The condensate bucket it somewhat difficult to empty with all the nooks and crannies in it, so you have to be careful you don't dump it on the floor. However, the drain feature has worked well. When using this feature the condensate bucket rattled or buzzed while running, but after pressing the bucket tighter into the unit the noise subsided.

I purchased this dehumidifier because it was top rated. It stopped working after 5 months and getting service or replacement is a joke.
I live in Delaware and was told I had to take the machine to Philadelphia to have it looked at. So not only a defective product it is lousy service. Think twice before you buy this product.

This dehumidifier is installed in a fairly damp basement. The area being covered is about 900 square feet with an 8 foot ceiling. The dehumidifier is able to keep the humidity level at 50, just where it needs to be. The discharge pumps pushes water up about five feet out a vent tube. It has worked perfectly in its first nine months of use.

After the recent recall of 15 brands of dehumidifiers, I had to make a choice and go with a Friedrich (which was not on the recall list). I am happy with my decision. I installed it and the front compartment is very easy to empty.

Bought this to dry a damp basement out and make sure mold can not grow. In a couple of days, this unit reduced the humidity to 45% and seems to hold it there fairly easily. The gravity drain is convenient and worked fine with a piece of garden hose. I like that the unit waits until the humidity reaches 50% before coming back on and running until it is back down to 45. We will see how durable it is as I have only run it now for about a month.
