Comments about Friedrich M24YH Mini-Split Air Conditioner with Heat Pump:
Bought for an area of ~ 25' x 25' with little insulation and block walls. Heat wave of upper 90s and this thing doesn't even have to try. The space is tied into another of equal size and this is also helping to cool that as well ON LOW FAN SPEED(!) DURING A HEAT WAVE(!). Unit set temp of 72.
The negatives are that the remote is of the picky type. This remote HAS to be pointed towards the senser on the indoor unit or it will not work. This is silly when it can be wall mounted as it cannot be mounted just anywhere. Also, the remote pauses before it sends the signal so you push a button and be still for a moment as if you move too much it won't reach the unit.
Quality is better than the cheaper units. The back plate is actually not inside the shell but flush with it. I didn't take it all apart but the condenser unit appears to have better protection for the electical parts - sure hope it does as imo that kills these things, drop of water on the electrical board and zap fried boards.
Don't expect this unit to come with a lineset, electrical cable, wall tube, etc. because it doesn't.
Also, you might want to take note of a caution in the install manual about having a lineset of less than 17' as that could cause loud operating sound or noise from the outdoor unit to be heard from the indoor unit.
If it weren't for the problems noted above it would receive 5 stars.
In the end, I do know that cooling is excellent and quiet enough on low and sub fan speeds. It'll be a while before finding out how well heating works at freezing temperatures.
