It was time to replace my 10 year old Friedrich window air conditioner. I knew I wanted to have one to install in the wall so I would have the window free to use. I wanted to stay with Friedrich as they are known to have top quality ac's. I saw this one on their web sight and wanted to give it a try.
Check the dimensions of the actual sleeve before building your frame for the cutout. The Installation manual the came with mine was incorrect for the height. It did not take into account for the bottom sill channel. I called Friedrich, and a live person answered the phone quickly. After a short hold, the agent told me that the manual was an older version and did not have the corrected height.
After enlarging my cut out, It was a pretty easy install because you only have to install the empty sleeve. Then you might need a little help sliding the unit in afterwards.
As for the functions, and operations, here is what I think so far.
The unit is Very quiet and I do not hear any vibrations. The air flow is easy to direct with the louvers. I am not too sure the temperature is accurate on the remote but I do have a rectangular room and wonder if this is why. I think I will get the wall mountable thermostat, and see if this helps.
However, the a/c cools the room quickly. I use the high speed to cool the room and then I am able to put on lower speed when I go to bed. It is very nice having the four speeds opposed to the three you usually get with other ac's.
I have to used the programable schedule feature yet, but i think this will come in handy to have the unit start cooling the room before getting home. I paid a bit more for the Kuhl series unit, but think the price difference will be worth it in the future.
When it is time to replace my sons unit, I think I will get him the same unit I have.
