Product Overview

Whether you need to control humidity in an indoor pool environment, a manufacturing center, a basement, or a utility site – the HI-E Dry 195 Dehumidifier is your trusted solution. This unit – manufactured by Madison, Wisconsin-based Therma-Stor – is designed to eliminate excess moisture with efficiency and ease in industrial, commercial, heavy-residential, and indoor pool applications. When operating under AHAM conditions (80 degrees F, 60% relative humidity), this unit removes 183 pints of moisture per day. At saturation (100% relative humidity), it takes out approximately 366 pints of moisture.

Therma-Stor's HI-E Dry 195 commercial dehumidifier is the ideal solution for your indoor space if you:

  • Need a high-capacity, highly efficient stand-alone unit.
  • Want the option of integrating your dehumidifier into your existing ductwork so you can store the unit in a location that is out of sight. For example, you can store the unit in a mechanical closet, but still dehumidify air in an alternate space.
  • Require a built-in condensate pump for powered condensate drainage.
  • Have a humid space that is prone to low temperatures. The 195 operates effectively in temperatures as low as 33 degrees F.

Please note that when it comes to dehumidifying large spaces, it is best to get a consultation for your specific environment and needs. Our product experts are happy to provide you with a free product consultation and recommendation. Please contact us at (800) 934-9194.

How It Works

The HI-E Dry 195 industrial dehumidifier uses a refrigeration system similar to an air conditioner's to remove heat and moisture from the incoming air and to add heat to the air that is discharged back into your environment. To start the process, an incoming air stream is first cooled to below its dew point as it passes through a condenser coil. This cooling process results in the removal of excess moisture as it is condensed into a liquid form and directed into the condensate hose. Next, the now-cooled and dried air is used to help pre-cool the next incoming air stream, which helps the unit's efficiency to increase by as much as 200%. Following the pre-cooling stage, processed air is reheated as it passes over an evaporator coil and is released back into your environment.

Assembly and Installation

For most applications, no assembly of the 195 unit is required. Simply plug the unit into a 110/120-Volt grounded outlet and run the 20-ft. condensate drain hose to a nearby drain or alternate receptacle. Running the unit as a standalone appliance is effective in many applications.

However, for greater ease-of-use and flexibility, you also have the option of ducting this unit to dehumidify multiple spaces at once. Ducting also enables you to hide the dehumidifier away in a storage space or to place it wherever is convenient and still reap the benefits of powerful dehumidification in your humid space. This setup is achieved by using the optional ducting kit. This kit features two 12-in. collars that allow ducting to be attached to the inlet and outlet locations on the unit.

Possible ducting options include:

  • Ducting multiple rooms in a basement for dehumidified air to flow simultaneously.
  • Ducting a single room, such as part of an unfinished basement, and directing the unit to blow dehumidified air into another room, such as the finished portion of a basement.
  • When used as a pool dehumidifier, this unit can be placed in a nearby mechanical closet, ducted to pull incoming air in through the top of the unit, and positioned to exhaust dehumidified air into your pool area. This helps cut down on noise and maintains the aesthetics of your pool space.

Optional Remote Dehumidistat

To automate dehumidifier control, a remote dehumidistat accessory is available for use with the HI-E Dry 195. The dehumidistat controls dehumidifier operation in the same manner that a thermostat controls an air conditioner's operation. When installed, the dehumidistat activates the dehumidifier when the humidity level in the remote space rises above a set threshold. This saves energy by allowing the unit to operate only when necessary. It also frees you from having to adjust the unit's operation to suit ambient conditions.

Low Operation Cost, Less Energy Consumption

One of the key benefits of this industrial dehumidifier lies in its distinctively low operating cost. Because it uses a compact refrigeration system that requires a smaller electrical load, the 195 unit is able to plug into a standard 110/120-Volt, 15-Amp grounded outlet. During operation, the unit draws just 12 Amps of electricity while removing two to three times more moisture per kilowatt hour than comparable commercial dehumidifiers. This can result in significant annual energy savings. Combine this savings with the lower equipment cost you'll incur (over other high-capacity dehumidifiers), and you will experience even more savings.

Additional Features

The HI-E Dry 195 comes with a variety of specialized features that make dehumidifying large spaces easy and worry-free:

  • Onboard Humidistat – This HI-E Dry dehumidifier features an onboard humidistat to control operation. Humidity can be set from 20% to 80%, and the controller features positive On/Off settings.
  • Internal Condensate Pump - The unit contains an internal condensate pump capable of lifting condensate 17 ft. vertically. A 20-ft. condensate hose is also included.
  • Pump Safety Control – If the condensate pump fails for any reason, this safety switch turns off the unit to prevent flooding and damage to your environment.
  • Blower Switch – The 195 system contains a blower switch that allows for continuous air circulation and air filtration that is independent of dehumidification.
  • Automatic Defrost – The 195 system features an automatic defrost system that activates when frost builds up on the internal coils.
  • Air Filters – This unit includes two 2-in.-thick, pleated fabric air filters for filtering particles from the air. These filters can be vacuumed multiple times before requiring a replacement. In order for the unit to dehumidify effectively, these filters must be cleaned and replaced regularly. They typically last a year.
  • Portability – Four caster wheels allow for quick and easy portability of the unit.

Other Applications

In addition to being used as a basement and pool dehumidifier, the 195 unit excels in these applications:

  • Health/Fitness: Gymnasiums, hospitals, health clubs, therapy rooms, locker rooms, spas, skating rinks, and allergy control sites.
  • Utilities: Water treatment plants, pumping stations, power plants, sanitation plants, well houses, switching stations, and telecommunication centers.
  • Archiving: Museums, libraries, art galleries, record storage, and film and tape storage.
  • Food/Drug: Cheese factories, bakeries, pharmaceutical labs, food drying, canning plants, restaurants and bars, supermarkets, and meat packaging.
  • Manufacturing: Tool and die shops, paper and pulp, production, powder blending, packaging areas, plastic molding and processing.
  • Computer/Electronics: Clean rooms, electronics assembly, and computer rooms.
  • Graphics: Printing, photo labs, pre-press areas, and silk screening.
