Product Overview
There is increasing concern in today’s world about the quality of the indoor air that we breathe. The Environmental Protection Agency has concluded that the air quality indoors can be up to 10 times worse than the air quality outdoors – even in the most industrialized cities. Yet, with this knowledge, it is hard to know whether or not you need to be concerned. How clean is the air in my home? In my office? This consumer air quality monitor is a breakthrough product that can accurately answer these questions and determine the indoor air quality wherever you need it.
Laser Technology
Laser particle counters are sophisticated monitors used for the quick and accurate measurement of airborne particle concentrations. Traditional units are extremely high priced and are often used in hospitals, laboratories and clean room facilities – where clean air is critical. This innovative air quality monitor uses the same laser technology as the traditional units to give you the same accurate readings. However, this monitor has been redesigned to expressly meet the needs of home users – at an affordable price.
Particle Counts
As air is cycled through the unit, both small and large particles are counted and displayed. Small particles counted include: fine dust, bacteria, mold, smoke, and smog. Large particles include: coarse dust, pollens, larger bacteria, plant spores, pet dander and dust mite feces. Anyone with allergies or asthma can use this information to specifically monitor their trouble areas. Someone with an allergy to pollen, for example, will be especially interested in their air’s large particle count.
Portable and Versatile
The unit is small and lightweight, allowing you to easily test any area of your home. Take it anywhere you spend large portions of your day indoors. Use the information to take action to protect you and your family and give you peace of mind knowing that the air you breathe is safe and healthy.

The laser particle counter is incredibly easy to use. I just took it out of the box, plugged in the AC adapter, and it started giving measurements immediately without requiring time to acquire a sample. I did find that when moving it from room to room you need to give it some time to stabilize at the new value. Maybe it takes some time for the old air to be purged with new air.
It gives appearances of being accurate. In a room with a HEPA filter it measured 50 small (all particles down to 1 micron) and 5 large (5 microns and above) particles per 0.01 cubic feet. In a room without a filter it measured 200 and 25. In a dusty room it measured 440 and 78. (I’m not sure about the units. A cleanroom website said that a typical office building has 500,000 to 1,000,000 particles per cubic foot. Is my bedroom really a class 5000 cleanroom?) There is a discrepancy between the manual and the website’s description. The manual says that “Small particles are all particles detected by the DC1100 down to its detection limit – approximately 1 micron.” while the website says that “small” equals 1 – 5 microns.
When you start it up it reads continuously, but it saves readings on a minute to minute basis. By hitting the mode button you can access this data on a minute to minute, hour to hour, or day to day basis, with the reading being the average concentration over that minute, hour, or day. To save energy and wear and tear on the instrument, you can select the “monitor” mode, in which it only samples for one minute per hour.
