What are the main differences between the Austin Air models?

Austin Air units come in two sizes: junior and standard. The standard units cover a larger area and have caster wheels. In addition, all sizes are available in one of three different types : the Healthmate, the Allergy Machine, and the Plus (superblend HEPA/carbon filtration). The Healthmate unit is by far the most popular and the best unit for most applications. The Allergy Machine is preferred if a customer has a tobacco smoke situation or needs a unit lighter in weight. The Plus/Superblend unit is preferred if a customer needs extra chemical filtration. Please call us if you need further information on the differences between these units.

How many filters are there?

The metal grille on the outside of the unit acts as a basic filter. However, inside the unit there is a high-quality HEPA/Carbon combined filter with a thin pre-filter wrapped around it. This filter cartridge is often times considered one very large filter and is typically changed all together. We do sell the thin pre-filter separately in case it gets wet, tears, or for some other reason needs to be changed separately from the main HEPA/carbon filter. However, this should not be typical. In the end, most customers find that they simply replace one filter approximately every 4 to 5 years.

What is the most popular unit color?

The most popular color by far is sandstone, which is a light tannish and greyish color that matches many interiors.

Does this unit give off any ozone?

As this unit is a traditional HEPA filter unit, it emits no or neglible ozone.
