We bought our house last June and knew that radon levels get up to around 4+ during the wet season in our unfinished basement. Our two year old son plays in the basement a lot, so we wanted to have an idea of the radon levels over the course of the year, to make sure that we felt like he was safe down there. We ordered this product and it came within 3 days! The directions were detailed and the product is easy to set up and use. After 48 hours, our first reading was 3.0, but every day, the levels went up .1 or .2. When we got to 4.0, my husband installed a vent from the sump hole to the outside, and now our reading is 1.3! We are so happy to be able to check the radon levels whenever we want, and be able to take action if/when it reaches a level that we are uncomfortable with.
The only thing that I would change is that I wish that you could see the most recent daily average, not just 7-day and long term.

This product has been know for it's defect, as per my mitigation guy. It will not stay in the "S" mode when that's what I set it at. It automatically goes into the "L" mode and will not return to the "S" mode. This happens intermittently; and the reading is not over 4.0. This product is about my health, and the health of my lungs. Which I consider very important as I have lost a loved one from lung cancer caused by radon. I am extremely disappointed, and want a replacement that works properly!

Easy to use right out of the box. Unit provides continuous readout. Just plug it in.

I have used this in a few houses for testing and they work great. They where next to a charcoal canister the reading came but the same or .3 off. So I think they are a great tool to have.

Comments about Safety Siren Pro Series3 Radon Gas Detector:
The instructions are short, simple, and easy to follow. I essentially just plugged it in and in 48hrs got the same results as a mail in short term radon test I did a few weeks prior. We then reset the unit and put it in another room on another floor. I have done this a dozen times now recording results all over our house. I am experimenting with opening windows to see the effect on radon in each area. We are also testing the homes we grew up and staid in during school. We should have a picture of our radon exposure throughout our lives.

Comments about Safety Siren Pro Series3 Radon Gas Detector:
This Meter/Monitor is a great tool. We've done some initial Radon testing with long-term test kits submitted for laboratory analysis - The result in one of our partially subterranian rooms this winter was 8.9 pCi/L. Since we wanted to try several Radon reduction/ mitigating techniques and know the results in days rather than months, I ordered the SafetySiren Pro Series 3 digital readout Meter after seeing the Reviews showing that nearly all buyers of this unit were pleased.
While still winter, our initial reading in the same area in the room on this digital readout Meter was 8.4 pCi/L; this was most likely lower than before because we have been making an effort to open the window more often.
To initially clear the air in the room, I opened the window and door in the room and ran a fan to blow air (and Radon) out the window for a few hours. The Meter updated values displayed hourly and beeped until the Radon level fell below 4 pCi/L. We will try a few different ventilation techniques in the room over a period of time to see what works best without requiring excessive power consumption, noise, drafts, etc.
I was pleased to find that the direct plug-in power supply provided and used with the Meter is UL Listed.
I fully agree with most of the valuable comments made by Gus T on 1/6/2010. Here are the key comments of his which were most useful to me: "This is a great investment and worth every penny. The only real complaint I had was that the manual should have made a couple of things a little more clear. I read reviews where some complained about no battery backup, so people thought the unit would have to start over if they lost power, but the unit will actually retain the reading in memory until it regains power, so thats good enough for me.
Also, if it goes to 4.0 or above at any time, the LED will be lit up beside (L) long term and won't switch over to (S) short term until radon levels are below 4.0. Again this is no big deal and they did this on purpose, but it would have beeen nice if it was made clear in the manual. The unit is made in the USA up in MI, which is also good. Go ahead and get one."
After we get this room's Radon level under control, we plan to move the Meter to the next room which reached 7 pCi/L when we measured with a long-term test kit. In the meantime, we're ventilating that room much more than before. Once that room is taken care of, we plan to offer/loan the Meter to my brother-in-law to check his home as well.

I've been wanting to know for some time about the Radon level in my home. When I first plugged it it and it ran it's first 48 hours, I had a reading of 5.6 pCi/L. I installed a exhaust fan in my crawl space now my level is at 0.5 pCi/L. This gives me a good piece of mind to be able to monitor and keep the levels as low as I can.

Comments about Safety Siren Pro Series3 Radon Gas Detector:
A home inspection had revealed elevated radon levels when I bought my home. I purchased this meter to confirm the levels over a longer period of time. Following installation of a remediation system, I ran this meter next to the expensive professional meter of the remediation installer. This meter showed the same results as the expensive meter (and revealed the success of remediation). It is easy to use and it does the job well.

Comments about Safety Siren Pro Series3 Radon Gas Detector:
Great reliable product that shows highest past reading, and has an audible chirp if results have been above 4.0
However, the requirements for placement caused the two units I use in the house to be obvious and conspicuous to all guests. (Have to be 18" off the floor, away from doors and windows, but requires A/C power tranformer to be plugged in); so it ends up being in highly visible places in our location, which was not to the liking of the homeowner. Perhaps the product could be redesigned to have remote battery power in a transmitter/sensor; and a "base unit" that gets plugged into an electrical outlet, and it could transmit the data to the base unit. That might be a way to power it that would allow for greater discretion in the monitor placement. It is still the best, most affordable product I found available, to do the Radon monitoring with real, accurate readings viewable to the owner at any time.
