Product Overview
What is Radon?
Radon is an odorless, colorless gas that can be found in any home — new or old. Radon is highly toxic and has been named by the US Surgeon General as the second leading cause of lung cancer. To protect you and your family from the effects of radon exposure, the US Environmental Protection Agency recommends that corrective action be taken if long-term radon levels in your home exceed 4 picoCuries per liter (PCi/L). Monitoring these levels is easy with the Pro Series 3 radon gas detector by Safety Siren. This product has been evaluated by the US EPA and meets their radon testing performance criteria to accurately and precisely measure the naturally fluctuating radon levels in the home.
Installation & Use
Because radon gas originates in the ground, the Safety Siren radon detector should be placed in the lowest level in your home — and remain undisturbed. Once installed, the radon detector will continuously monitor radon levels and record the results. The LCD display on the front of the unit can be set to display either the short-term average radon level (average reading over 7 days) or long-term average (average reading since last re-set). Regardless of which number is currently displayed, an audible alarm will sound if either the short-term average or long-term average reading exceeds 4 pCi/L. The alarm continues to chirp every hour until the average returns below 4 pCi/L (can be silenced by user).
Display readings are updated hourly and the unit will self-test for safety every 24 hours. A multi-function menu button allows you to switch display options, conduct a manual test of the detector, mute or reactivate the audible alarm, and clear and reset the memory.

Safety Siren Pro Series3 Radon Gas Detector
Reviewed by: Stuart on 2008-08-01
Have you ever purchased an in-home radon kit that you open, use to measure radon levels once, and then ship to the lab with payment in order to get results?
I'm working on air quality research at a University, and we've done some of these tests. There are some downsides to doing it that way: you have to pay for each test, you only get a single reading, and you have to pay for subsequent tests.
I was pretty surprised to find that an electronic version for 24-hour monitoring was so cheap. We paid $20 per test for the other tests, so this unit will easily pay for itself after 6 tests. Plus, you can continue monitoring. With the test kits, if you have radon above 4 pCu/L, what do you do? Ventilate your basement, and then perform the test again? This unit we just plugged in and let it monitor constantly, and we can see if the changes we made had any impact on radon levels.
If you only need a single point in time test, then buy a kit, send it to the lab and pay for results. If you want to measure more than once, then do yourself a favor and purchase the Pro Series 3 testing unit.
