  • Product Overview

Solve your crawl space humidity issues for good with the new Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier! The Advance2 is an updated version of the popular Santa Fe Advance Dehumidifier, the company's premier crawl space dehumidifier. The Advance2 builds on every feature that made the original Advance great, giving you a smarter, more efficient, and more effective solution for damp, mold-prone crawl spaces. Its new design features dual exhaust vents for improved airflow and helps increase your dehumidifying efficiency, keeping your operating costs in check. Plus, compact low-profile housing made of rugged powder-coated steel and quieter operation build on its convenience and long-term value.

    Same Capacity, Smaller Size

Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier - Made in the USA

Like the original Santa Fe Advance, the new Advance2 is American-made and has the same capacity and coverage area only in a more compact size. It extracts 90 pints of damaging moisture per day to cover a large crawl space, basement, or any low-clearance area up to 2,200 square feet. Santa Fe tests all of its dehumidifiers at AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) testing conditions of 80 degrees F, 60% relative humidity. In saturated conditions, this unit can remove up to 180 pints of moisture, making it ideal for extremely damp environments.

    How It Works

The Santa Fe Advance 2 Crawl Space Dehumidifier uses a refrigeration system to remove moisture from incoming air. Air is pulled into the unit through an inlet located on one end of its housing and cooled to below its dew point as it passes across an evaporator coil. As a result of this cooling process, moisture is condensed into a liquid and directed into the drain hose, where it can be deposited into a nearby drain using the force of gravity. Once the incoming air is cooled and dehumidified, it is used to pre-cool the next incoming air stream. This pre-cooling process increases the unit's efficiency by as much as 200%. Following the pre-cooling stage, processed air is reheated as it passes over a condenser coil and discharged back into your environment through dual exhaust vents on either side of the dehumidifier. Select your desired humidity level using the manual knob control. The unit's built-in humidistat automatically maintains the level of humidity.

    Flexible Installation

The unique, horizontal design of the Advance 2 offers you several options for installation. You can place it in a finished basement, an unfinished basement, or in your home’s crawl space on open ground. With such a small physical profile, you can easily install the unit wherever you need. If you choose to place the Advance on open dirt or earth, it is best to first lay plastic down across the whole surface area and seal all outside vents. This will provide additional moisture insulation for your space and allow the system to work even more effectively. For sturdy use, the dehumidifier comes with 4 leveling feet that can be adjusted to level the machine in your space.

    Setting Up A Drain Trap

Santa Fe recommends setting up a drain trap when installing any of its horizontal dehumidifiers, including the Advance 2. This prevents air from moving back up through the hose and backflowing water into the machine. This also prevents potential water leaks from the corners of each unit. It's easy to create a drain trap using the included drain hose or a separate PVC trap. Watch this video on how to create a drain trap for your Santa Fe dehumidifier to learn more.

    Automatic Defrost

This Santa Fe crawl space dehumidifier is designed to run efficiently in temperatures between 49 degrees F and 95 degrees F. When the temperature dips below 49 degrees F, frost may form on the evaporator coil. When this happens, the system's automatic defrost function activates in order to protect the dehumidifier's internal components. The defrost system automatically shuts down the compressor while the blower continues running in order to melt ice buildup. When the ice has melted, the evaporator temperature will increase, and the compressor will automatically restart, no intervention needed.

    Additional Features

    • Humidity Control Knob – This function automatically maintains the humidity level that is ideal for your environment by cycling the unit on and off throughout the day.
    • Independent Fan Control – A separate and dedicated fan control allows for continuous fan operation or operation only when the unit is actively removing moisture from the air.
    • MERV-8 Filter – A MERV-8 filter captures microscopic allergens is especially effective in capturing mold. It also helps protect dehumidifier components from particles that may cause damage.
    • Quiet Operation - Double-walled, powder-coated steel housing make this new model quieter than the original.
    • Auto Restart - Santa Fe dehumidifiers automatically restart following a power outage.
    • Energy Star-Qualified - Like all Santa Fe dehumidifiers, the Advance2 meets Energy Star standards for efficient operation and construction.

    Optional Condensate Pump

The Santa Fe Advance2 is equipped to drain collected moisture via gravity drain. However, a condensate pump kit is available when gravity draining is not possible or not ideal. The condensate pump gives you the option of running the drain hose upward and out through a window or through a doorway to your yard or garden. These pumps are energy-efficient and work with a flow switch that directs the pump to run only when needed.

    Optional Duct Kit

The Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier can be used as a standalone solution or ducted for more complex applications. For example, you may want to hide the unit away in a storage closet or other remote area and run ductwork to and from the treated space. Alternatively, you may want to duct the unit to remove moist air from one room and discharge dehumidified air into another room. These ducted applications and others are possible when you add the optional ducting kit.

    Other Accessories

Add casters to your Santa Fe Advance2 and make moving the unit easy. This dehumidifier is also compatible with Santa Fe's Crawl Space Alert Humidity Monitor, which provides 24-hour monitoring of conditions in your crawl space or basement.

    Summary

The Santa Fe Advance2 Dehumidifier keeps your basement or crawl space mold- and mildew-free, eliminating 90 pints of moisture per day at AHAM conditions.

    What Customers Love

    • Superior Efficiency - The Advance2 removes more moisture per kilowatt hour than many conventional residential dehumidifiers at the same or an even lower operating cost.
    • Reliable Long Life - Solid internal construction and a heavy-duty cabinet contribute to years of reliable moisture control.

    Things To Consider

    • Customizable Options - Customize your Advance2 to suit your space's unique needs. Add a condensate pump, a ducting kit, a remote humidistat, casters, and other accessories.

We live in a 1500 sq. foot rancher with a large crawl space in Louisa Co. Va. Our crawl was moist to begin with when we moved in 2 yrs. ago and we had to have it treated for mold, as the house was vacant for quite a while.

The original vapor barrier did not cover the entire dirt floor AND our HVAC ductwork and handling unit is located in our crawl which was sweating constantly, causing not only moisture condensate but our insulation was falling as well. After trying to put down more 10mil vapor barrier, even taping it to the walls and sealing up the vents, we still had moisture issues.

We purchased a 70 pint Danby home dehumidifier as our neighbor told us they had the same problem and a little unit took care of their crawl just fine. However, not so for us. It worked well in the beginning, but ran constantly, had no humidistat, so we had to go under the house often to check on things and our electric bill went up $50-$75 a month!!!

We had gutters put on the house last year, thinking that would help and it didn't do as much as it needed to. There is no evidence of any standing water or leaks and our home sits on a slope-you would think a humid crawl wouldn't be such an issue. But, we have a very clay soil here in Louisa, and it does hold moisture well. So, this year we decided after much deliberation and comparing different dehumidifier brands to go ahead and spend the money on something that we could set and forget it, with an incredible reputation for longevity and reliablility.

We found that doing it ourselves was much more affordable then having a moisture company come in and provide us with crawlspace encapsulation and deumidifier- thousands less! Came UPS Freight-WONDERFUL COMPANY-prompt, professional delivery within the week of purchase-Shipping was FREE! Set up couldn't be easier. Here is how we did it- My wife and I placed the Santa Fe on concrete pavers we bought at Lowe's over our existing vapor barrier with 2ft clearance over top from the floor joists to the machine and leveled it with the bubble level provided on the machine.

Then, we slid the clear tubing provided, onto the barb nipple at the machine and secured it with an automotive hose clamp so it wouldn't leak. We bought a 2nd PVC barb nipple 5/8 inch to slide the clear tubing over at the end again securing it with a clamp and of course used PVC glue to attach that to 3/4" PVC pipe. We chiseled out a hole through the foundation block, which took some time, but well worth it, and ran the pvc thru that, down the slope of our natural yard grade to a small gravel pit to facillitate drainage.

We buried the pvc underground with the tip just out over the rock so we can see it draining. The machine was plugged into our 110 outlet and set it @ 45% for now to get the moisture under control. Took about 10 minutes before we started to see water come out through the tubing. It has ran all day and we anticipate it to keep going until it gets the humidity level under control(78% at start). Noise is not an issue-we cannot hear it in the house at all. The crawl is noticeably warmer and drier already!(My wife is thrilled!)

Wish the power cord was a little longer and the clear tubing as well, but that is all that we can say negative about this wonderful machine. Like I said, we have spent a good amount of time looking at all the brands on the market and this by far was the best bang for our hard earned dollars. Can't wait to see how the doors close up in the house and how the crawl feels and smells over the next week. Go ahead and spend the money now and save yourself the hassle of a smaller, less efficient unit. With what we have spent on electricity over the past year for the home unit in which the fan had run pretty much all the time, we could have had 50% of the cost saved up. Live and learn I guess.

Worked fine for a year and a half until it developed a leak and lost it's Freon. Tried to get the manufacturer to repair per 5 year warranty and was unsuccessful.

Comments about Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier:

        Totally automatic, Quiet and efficient.
After doing much research I purchased the Advance 2 to replace a older and smaller dehumidifier in my crawlspace. Set up was easy. The advance 2 works great, keeping the humidity in the crawl space at an acceptable percent. The old dehumidifier could not do an adequate job.
Even though the Advance 2 has a much larger capacity than my old dehumidifier I was surprised to see no noticeable electrical cost.
I waited 6 months to write this review to verify the quality and efficiency.

Comments about Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier:

I purchased the original Santa Fe Advance @ 5 years ago. It did a remarkable job drying out my crawl space, worked great for @ 3 years. Into year 4, started to run harder, into year 5 it just ran continuously and stopped pulling moisture out of the air. I ran through the sanity checks with Thermastor and came to the conclusion that it was a bad unit, leaking somewhere, no coolant left, etc. Pretty bad for such an expensing item. The upside - they sent me a replacement (the Advance 2) at no charge. A bit of a PITA to haul out the old one, and install this one, but still glad to do so to resolve the problems. The Advance 2 is a quieter unit, not as awkward to handle as the older Advance - and maybe even a couple lb lighter. Really moves the air and has no problem keeping my 1200 sq ft crawl under 55% at mid-setting on the dial, while only cycling a few times a day to accomplish this. I've only run this newer unit for a few months so far, time will tell if quality control issues have been fixed at Thermastor. Unfortunately it is a bit of a leap of faith when you buy one of these - at least where I am - as there is nobody to service the unit. If there's a problem my options are to crate it up and ship it back for repairs, or just replace it with something else. For the price you pay it should go an easy 10 years + with proper care. If it proves to be much more reliable than the last one, it will be an easy 5-star rating.

The product capacity is well matched to the dehumidifying requirement.
There is no display of actual humidity level so you have to guess on the setting for the humidity dial.
The free mini hygro-thermometer is a piece of trash. I had to modify the battery compartment to get it to work at all. I will probably buy another hygrometer because I don't trust the reading of the "high quality German unit."

Comments about Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier:

Have tried the typical Home Depot, Lowes etc dehumidifiers to control lower level humidity in our lake home. Nothing really could keep up with the dampness when humidity was high, like after heavy rains or hot humid weather when lower level was cool.
This dehumidifier is completely different animal, it easily kept up with any humidity and the tiled parts of the floors including in the bathroom are finally dry.
It took some work to install properly including ducting the outlet dry air to two different places and the return air another place to make the air flow through the rooms. But it works great. Should have done this sooner.

I previously owned the Sante Fe Advance. I liked the unit, but it developed a problem and by the time I got around to contacting the Thermastor factory, the warranty had expired. Thermastor did not hesitate to help me and they quickly sent me a brand new Advance 2, at no charge. This is outstanding customer service. I set up the new Advance 2 and it is working great for the last several months. Very pleased with Thermastor and I would highly recommend.

Comments about Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier:

My power bill shot thru the roof up to 110%. My crawl space is 1100 square feet & only about 2 feet in height. I knew the first bill would be somewhat higher because it ran for 30 days none stop & was then cut back. But my bills are way more than I expected. I was told up to a 25% increase. Have yet to see this percentage. All my bills have been higher 60% to 110%. So I have cut the dehumidifier back further. It really has done a good job of helping dry the crawl space so I hope I now have this under control & it can operate on a much lower level so my power bill will be more in line.

Comments about Santa Fe Advance 2 Dehumidifier:

This unit was placed in the basement of a private residence. The basement area is approximately 1600 square feet consisting of a 16x16 crawl space with the remaining divided between a work room and play room. The basement is 8 feet high and totally in the ground. It always needed a dehumidifier since it had high humidity and was susceptible to mold and was musty. Even with a cheap store dehumidified running constantly the humidity was around 70%.
I built a platform on wheels for the Advance 2 since I needed the condensate pump. This allowed me to move the unit out of the work room when doing woodworking. I added 15 ft of hose to the condensate discharge for distance to the elevated drain (7ft off floor).
The unit worked beautifully. Fan spooled up and just kept going for a week. My humidity went from 70% to 45%. It was just great. The musty smell disappeared. I did clean every surface that had mold and sprayed on the SmartShield that I purchased. So far I am extremely pleased, my wife even more so.
Since I purchased this unit in September I am anxious to see how it runs in the more humid summer.
