I purchased the Santa Fe Classic to replace a defunct Kenmore model. I decided to take the plunge and spend the extra money on this unit after many glowing reviews. It is a fantastic unit. Solidly built, fast and efficient. My ~1000 sq ft. basement went from water condensing on the walls and piping to comfortable and dry in one weekend. The unit is a little loud, but it's worth it. After about a week and half, the unit now seems to only cycle on once or twice a day for about a half hour.

I also bought the condensate pump and the two work well together.

Would I buy this unit again? Absolutely. Would I recommend this unit? Without hesitation.

I have this unit in an unfinished 2200 sq ft basement. it worked excellently for 4 years but this year it stopped dehumidifying. I have called the therma stor service department who offered a few options before removing the cover. those options did not work so we had to remove the outer panel and do some tests together. while that is a nice option to have with the service people here's the problem. they diagnosed it to be a bad refrigeration part for a leak.

but there are basically no options to get this repaired. they aren't any authorized thermastor service people. No one in my area (PA) knows how to repair this or they do not want to get involved and I can't blame them. They are just no familiar with the unit. The only other option is to send it back to Thermastor in WI at my expense both ways. That also requires me to buy a pallet. The est. costs by Thermastor is $600. BUYER BEWARE!

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Wow! What an amazing machine. I have 2000 SF basement with 9' ceilings, completely finished. It is a custom house extremely water-proofed and insulated - basement is mostly below grade. We exercise in basement so it gets a lot of sweat down there too. I also noticed that the smell of the rubber gym floor has been eliminated since getting this unit - the air is extremely fresh feeling (we also have electrostaic filter and UV air treatment). Zoned basement gets 65% humid in summer but A/C makes it too cold (like 62F in summer, but still too humid). Basement has central rec room, large gym, and another room. We keep all doors open for cross circulation. I had gone through bogus LG portables, which run all day and don't really work then burn up and die every year). I was concerned buying a big heavy high dollar item like this sight unseen, but wow, it sure does work. The quality is amazing - all steel construction and very heavy duty - the inside reminds me of a military machine. It barely runs and keeps humidity very low. I think electric savings alone will offset cost. My family is amazed at how comfortable the basement is (actually warms it up nicely) and the positive comfort impact it has had on the rest of the levels. We have 3 zones HVAC that circulate daily, so we get good cross-zone circulation. The unit is too loud to watch TV by, but I keep it in my centrally located HVAC room with door open and there are multiple vents to finished area. It is barely audible on the main level (basement is, however, sound-proofed) When we are in basement I just close the door and it is no louder than the furnace blower. It moves a LOT of air - amazing. This thing is built like a tank and should last 20 years. Only risk I see is if repairs are needed it will cost a fortune to ship it somewhere. But then again, this things suck a lot of moisture out of the air, so it is worth the great functionality. I'm an aerospace engineer so I am really picky about this kind of stuff and I give this a solid buy. I am considering ducting it for a cleaner install but it works just fine as is. Order it, get it, plug it in, be comfortable, and protect your basement and its contents. If, by bad luck, it breaks, just deal with it. Worth every penny. The guys at Sylvane gave great advice too. I am very happy with this machine.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Just got it delivered and installed. First impressions:
Crude controls: just a manual dial that goes from off - wetter - drier and a 'chart' above it to show those..... the settings for the dial are not even on the dial itself!
No digiltal output: no way to know what % humidity you've set it for, or what the air around it is currently. You can order a free hygrometer by sending in lots of personal information. Would have been much nicert to include it with the unit!
Loud: ok, it is doing a lot of work. But I can hear this quite clearly from the first floor, and the unit is in the floor below.
Air output direction: The power, water hose, condensate pump are on the same side as the humidity control dial and the air output vent. Which means that if you want to put it against a wall you have to point all the wires/hoses etc. out at the room if you want the air to blow that direction. Ugly and easy to trip on those delicate parts.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

We have been fighting mold and mildew growing in our basement for over a year now. We had purchased 2 portable units from the hardware store when we moved into the house. For a basement of 4000 sf it wasn't enough. We purchased a 3rd portable unit and it helped, but not enough. One wet spring I went to the basement to find mildew growing on my walls and all over my furniture. It was terrible. After struggling with it for a year, we decided to purchase two of Sante Fe Classics. It was more than we wanted to pay for humidifiers, but I thought it was necessary. After convencing my husband there was no other way, and extensive searching all the commercial units we decided on this one. The price was good compared to the other models. And we did not want to hook it up to our AC units. We wanted a stand alone unit to drain into our sun pump. The only downfall is that the drain hose is not very long. But it is easily fixed with purchasing a drain hose what ever length you want from the hardware store and a connector. Within 2 days the humidity dropped from 75% to 60% and within a week it is down to 50% and holding just where we want it. The smell in our basement has deminished tremendously. Once we get the mildew cleaned up from the furniture again with a tea tree oil mixture, we should be good as new. I would definately recommend this unit for anyone who is having problems with Mildew. And this unit has 2 air filters. One that is the standard replacable one, and one that can be washed.

Do not like 25" PVC pipe you recommend. It leaked. I now must return PVC and find better fit. ??? Also PVC piping is hard and spirals making it VERY difficult to keep level with floor for proper drainage. The machine cost so much could you not add several feet of the nice soft hose you provide connected to machine so the custemer could simply cut excess to make an easy fit {length} for the buyer; and, it makes keeping the pipe/hose level to floor for proper drainage VERY simple.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

My crawl space was at 87% humidity when I started up the unit. There was water everywhere. It smelled musty. After 2 days of continuous running the humidity was down to 61% and I am trying to regulate it to about 50-55%. The jury is out as to how much this is costing in electricity since it had run constantly for about 2 weeks. But, the crawlspace is dry now. No standing water or water dropping off the A/C ductwork. It smells a lot better. The unit is located below the master bedroom and it can faintly be heard. It has made a big difference in the crawlspace air quality. I'm now in the process of sealing off the foundation vents.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

I have a modest size home of less than 2000 sqft. After purchasing the "home improvement" store's 70 pint version (biggest they had and ~$300), I returned it after two weeks because of dismal performance. At best it would only wring out about 36 pints in 24 hrs. (4.5 gallon max) My measured humidity levels dropped 5% or so, from 70% to 65% RH when I operated it.

So I purchased this 110 pint/day unit because I have seen what it is capable of. I have one at my workplace that takes care of ~1800 sq.ft. of un-insulated 1940's cinder-block construction. I am located in a Mid-Atlantic coastline state and summer humidity levels are a major factor here. That's part of the reason why the Blue Ridge Mountains appear blue.

My unit is located in the basement and establishes the humidty levels generally at 50% upstairs and 43% downstairs, with about 5 to 7 degrees of warming in the basement. The captured water from the unit will vary from 6 to 10 gal. a day depending on the weather conditions. We are much more comfortable now and the pipes in the basement have stopped sweating.
