I purchased the Santa Fe Classic dehumidifier couple months ago. I installed it in my below ground finished basement. The installation was pretty straight forward, you don't need to be a DIY guru. I just bought an extension hose to drain it in my sump pump, the one that comes with it was too short for me.
The dehumidifier made tremendous difference in just 2 days. Before its arrival, the relative humidity level in the basement was constant at around 80% in the summer months, it smelled musty and unpleasant. Apparently this is normal here in the DC area. It ran non-stop for 2 days and brought the humidity down to 36% and the musty smell gradually went away. Since mold can't grow at humidity below 50%, I decided to let it keep the humidity around 45%, which reduced the run time significantly. At 36% it was running much more often.
The device is quite noisy if it's operating in the living area or the bedroom. Since it's my basement, I can barely hear its operation. Currently is sitting in the middle of my 1000 sq ft basement. I'm thinking of moving it into the utility room and closing the door to reduce the noise level even further. I'll have to cut out some vents to allow air circulation though.
My electric bill has went up quite a bit, but I hope that I won't have to run it that much in the colder months. Supposedly it is much more efficient than the cheap dehumidifiers you can buy from home improvement stores.
The construction feels solid, commercial grade. Moving it on flat and smooth surface is easy, it's standing on wheels.

I have this unit in an unfinished 2200 sq ft basement. it worked excellently for 4 years but this year it stopped dehumidifying. I have called the therma stor service department who offered a few options before removing the cover. those options did not work so we had to remove the outer panel and do some tests together. while that is a nice option to have with the service people here's the problem. they diagnosed it to be a bad refrigeration part for a leak.

but there are basically no options to get this repaired. they aren't any authorized thermastor service people. No one in my area (PA) knows how to repair this or they do not want to get involved and I can't blame them. They are just no familiar with the unit. The only other option is to send it back to Thermastor in WI at my expense both ways. That also requires me to buy a pallet. The est. costs by Thermastor is $600. BUYER BEWARE!

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

My crawl space was at 87% humidity when I started up the unit. There was water everywhere. It smelled musty. After 2 days of continuous running the humidity was down to 61% and I am trying to regulate it to about 50-55%. The jury is out as to how much this is costing in electricity since it had run constantly for about 2 weeks. But, the crawlspace is dry now. No standing water or water dropping off the A/C ductwork. It smells a lot better. The unit is located below the master bedroom and it can faintly be heard. It has made a big difference in the crawlspace air quality. I'm now in the process of sealing off the foundation vents.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

I have a modest size home of less than 2000 sqft. After purchasing the "home improvement" store's 70 pint version (biggest they had and ~$300), I returned it after two weeks because of dismal performance. At best it would only wring out about 36 pints in 24 hrs. (4.5 gallon max) My measured humidity levels dropped 5% or so, from 70% to 65% RH when I operated it.

So I purchased this 110 pint/day unit because I have seen what it is capable of. I have one at my workplace that takes care of ~1800 sq.ft. of un-insulated 1940's cinder-block construction. I am located in a Mid-Atlantic coastline state and summer humidity levels are a major factor here. That's part of the reason why the Blue Ridge Mountains appear blue.

My unit is located in the basement and establishes the humidty levels generally at 50% upstairs and 43% downstairs, with about 5 to 7 degrees of warming in the basement. The captured water from the unit will vary from 6 to 10 gal. a day depending on the weather conditions. We are much more comfortable now and the pipes in the basement have stopped sweating.

We bought a house that turned out to have real basement dampness problems. This humidifier took it on and cleared out dampness and must in a very short time. Well worth the investment.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Bought this product as a recommendation from a mold inspector who was giving me some advice for mold issues in our basement due to high humidity levels. Within a day it went from 85% to 50% and has stayed there. We haven't recieved an electric bill yet to know how that has been affected but it works great. The musty smell is gone too.

Replacement for the same model that compressor died after 7 years. Manual has instructions on how to replace compressor but I could not find some one to do the job and customer service at Sante Fe was not helpful. The 7 years of use made a great difference in the basement being dry and mildew free, also no corrosion on metal exercise equipment so I bought a new unit.

I put this in my basement and it immediately started pumping out huge amounts of water even though I had another brand running. I left it wide open for 2 days. I now have it on Auto and it runs off and on and my basement feels and smells dry. I can hear it running upstairs with the doors closed to the basement. I think the muffler should be included with the product. I love that it is American made!

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Have a large semi-finished basement with furnace room and crawl space with vents. Smells come from crawlspace. After researching, found mold didn't grow below 50%. Found my humidity running about 75%/. Turned Classic on and humidity for house dropped below 50% after about 2 days. This works as a whole house humidifier since lowering basement humidity lowers the humidity in the whole house. I also bought this because of the ducting option, in case a needed to run a hose to the crawl space. I just keep the furnace door closed and it is fine. With all the rain in GA this has been a great help. Since this unit is so expensive, my only disappointment is that it only comes with a one year warranty and no local repair shops. Other reviews were critical about that. For now it seems to be doing the job. Waiting for electric bill to see how efficient
