I purchased the Santa Fe Classic dehumidifier couple months ago. I installed it in my below ground finished basement. The installation was pretty straight forward, you don't need to be a DIY guru. I just bought an extension hose to drain it in my sump pump, the one that comes with it was too short for me.
The dehumidifier made tremendous difference in just 2 days. Before its arrival, the relative humidity level in the basement was constant at around 80% in the summer months, it smelled musty and unpleasant. Apparently this is normal here in the DC area. It ran non-stop for 2 days and brought the humidity down to 36% and the musty smell gradually went away. Since mold can't grow at humidity below 50%, I decided to let it keep the humidity around 45%, which reduced the run time significantly. At 36% it was running much more often.
The device is quite noisy if it's operating in the living area or the bedroom. Since it's my basement, I can barely hear its operation. Currently is sitting in the middle of my 1000 sq ft basement. I'm thinking of moving it into the utility room and closing the door to reduce the noise level even further. I'll have to cut out some vents to allow air circulation though.
My electric bill has went up quite a bit, but I hope that I won't have to run it that much in the colder months. Supposedly it is much more efficient than the cheap dehumidifiers you can buy from home improvement stores.
The construction feels solid, commercial grade. Moving it on flat and smooth surface is easy, it's standing on wheels.

I have this unit in an unfinished 2200 sq ft basement. it worked excellently for 4 years but this year it stopped dehumidifying. I have called the therma stor service department who offered a few options before removing the cover. those options did not work so we had to remove the outer panel and do some tests together. while that is a nice option to have with the service people here's the problem. they diagnosed it to be a bad refrigeration part for a leak.

but there are basically no options to get this repaired. they aren't any authorized thermastor service people. No one in my area (PA) knows how to repair this or they do not want to get involved and I can't blame them. They are just no familiar with the unit. The only other option is to send it back to Thermastor in WI at my expense both ways. That also requires me to buy a pallet. The est. costs by Thermastor is $600. BUYER BEWARE!

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Have a large semi-finished basement with furnace room and crawl space with vents. Smells come from crawlspace. After researching, found mold didn't grow below 50%. Found my humidity running about 75%/. Turned Classic on and humidity for house dropped below 50% after about 2 days. This works as a whole house humidifier since lowering basement humidity lowers the humidity in the whole house. I also bought this because of the ducting option, in case a needed to run a hose to the crawl space. I just keep the furnace door closed and it is fine. With all the rain in GA this has been a great help. Since this unit is so expensive, my only disappointment is that it only comes with a one year warranty and no local repair shops. Other reviews were critical about that. For now it seems to be doing the job. Waiting for electric bill to see how efficient

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

After returning from vacation in summer a few years back, I discovered mildew everywhere in my basement and everything stored there was rotten. After searching on the web for something serious, I opted for the Sante Fe dehumidifier. It has been now 6 years that I have it working in my NJ (horribly damped in summer with water table reaching the surface) basement, and never ever had mildew or rotten cloths or antyhing else since then. My basement is not big (~1000 sqft) but has many rooms. My review is for the ones who want something really working and withut trouble in the long run. The Sante Fe dehumidifier is sturdy and never failed. Just replace the air filter, the compressor is air cooled and you don't want it to overheat because the air filter is clogged. Now, I did not do it for 2 years, but just order replacement filters and decide to write this review.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Purchased 2.5 years ago...worked well at first but apparent leak in refrigerant is causing problems. I was diligent in changing filters. No one in a major metropolitan area wants to tackle it and the company can offer no one they know of who can. So I have to lug this huge thing out of the basement, put it on a pallet, properly secure it, all for a likely high cost to me of 1/2 the cost of the unit itself. I would suggest other brands

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

Sylvane does not make these - which is a bit deceptive. Santa Fe is impossible to get customer service from. No one wants to fix these things. I use these at my offices, which have basements that accumulate moisture. With these on, the basements and the office are bone dry (unless a big flood). These things are essential if you have damp basements. One Santa Fe does a better job than 3 of the biggest Kennmores - yet only uses the power of one Kenmore and is extremely quiet. For the price, you should be able to get them fixed. Santa Fe - let me know! We have 3 broken units we want to repair!!!

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:

We bought this dehumidifier because the humidity in our house was way too high. We developed a mold problem because of this. Put it in the basement and it has brought the humidity levels down from 60% to around 30%. You can feel a difference in the air. I would highly recommend this product!
