Ranked as one of the most energy-efficient dehumidifiers on the market, the American-made Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier is guaranteed to eliminate mold and mildew problems—and the musty smells that stem from them—in large, humid basements. This basement dehumidifier is capable of removing 110 pints of moisture per day under AHAM conditions (80 degrees F at 60% relative humidity) and approximately 220 pints of moisture per day at saturation (100% relative humidity). It dehumidifies spaces as large as 2,500 square feet and operates with an Energy Star-rated level of efficiency.
Please note that when shopping for a dehumidifier to use in large spaces, it is best to get a consultation for your specific environment. Please call our product experts at 1 (800) 934-9194 for a free consultation and product recommendation.
In many applications, the Santa Fe Classic, also known as the Santa Fe Whole Basement Dehumidifier or Santa Fe Model #4029700, requires virtually no assembly. Simply plug it into a standard 15-amp, 115-volt grounded outlet; attach the supplied drain hose; and route the hose to a nearby floor drain. If necessary, you can extend the drain hose using a 0.5-inch PVC pipe. PVC pipe is commonly available in 10-inch lengths from building supply, plumbing, and hardware stores. Because of the Classic's ability to collect large volumes of water throughout the day, it should be set up for permanent drainage.
As an option, purchase the Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier Healthy Basement Package, a Sylvane exclusive, to get everything you need to keep your basement or crawlspace moisture-free and healthy. This package includes the standard package contents listed above as well as the additional items below.
This high-capacity residential dehumidifier uses a refrigeration system to remove moisture from incoming air. Air is pulled into the unit through an inlet located on top of its housing and cooled to below its dew point as it passes across an evaporator coil. As a result of this cooling process, moisture is condensed into a liquid and directed into the drain hose, where it can be deposited into a nearby drain using the force of gravity. Once the incoming air is cooled and dehumidified, it is used to pre-cool the next incoming air stream. This pre-cooling process increases the unit's efficiency by as much as 200%. Following the pre-cooling stage, processed air is reheated as it passes over a condenser coil and discharged back into your environment using the outlet located on the side of the unit.
The Santa Fe Classic Basement Dehumidifier carries the advantage of low-temperature operation. Many mass-merchant dehumidifiers shut off or begin removing far less moisture than their ratings indicate when operating in the typically cooler conditions of a basement. Not so with this Santa Fe dehumidifier. This residential unit continues dehumidifying under its listed capacity in temperatures as low as 56 degrees Fahrenheit. This is made possible by a high-quality, built-in defrost system that prevents the buildup of frost and its negative effect on airflow.
Only two controls, a knob and a switch, are necessary to control the Santa Fe Classic. Use the manual knob located on the back of the unit to control the internal humidistat and turn the unit on and off. The humidistat boasts variable humidity settings—from 20 percent to 80 percent—so that you can find the optimal humidity level for your space. The dehumidifier also features a blower switch, which allows for continuous blower operation that is independent of the dehumidifier. This control can be used for comfortable air circulation.
To prevent dirt and dust from clogging the machine and allergens from being released back into the air, this Santa Fe dehumidifier is equipped with a foam pre-filter and a standard MERV-11 filter. MERV-11 filters capture particles that that are 1 to 3 microns in size—the typical range for mold spores and dust particles. The foam pre-filter is washable with a mild detergent while the MERV-11 filter can be vacuumed clean. Both filters should be changed every 6 months to a year, depending on how dirty they become.
The Santa Fe Classic does not produce an excess of noise. To determine this, we performed our own sound tests. From 6 feet away, the operating dehumidifier emits 58 to 62 decibels (dB) of sound—depending on where our sound meter was located in relation to the unit. This decibel range is loosely equivalent to that of quiet to normal conversation. However, since many sound levels are subjective to the human ear, if you find that the Classic isn’t as quiet as you would like, there is an optional muffler kit accessory available to reduce the machine's sound level.
As an alternative method of draining collected water, the Santa Fe Classic has an optional condensate pump kit (sold separately). This kit gives you the option of running the drain hose upward and out through a window, around to a doorway, or through a drilled hole to your yard or garden. Like the Santa Fe Classic, the condensate pump is energy-efficient. A convenient flow switch allows the pump to run only when needed in order to eliminate costly long-term operation.
A ducting kit is also available for the Santa Fe Classic. Ducting this unit affords you several options for dehumidifying multiple spaces at once. Ducting also allows you to conceal the dehumidifier in a storage space or place it where it is most convenient for you and run ductwork to and from your space. Unit setup options include:
