After 3 weeks, the Comfort-Aire 651 is doing what it is supposed to do in the basement - keeping it around 40-45% humidity vs. the 55%+ previously. I like the hose drain - it has a nipple that a tube can connect to and empties into the floor drain. I purchased 13' of 1/2 inch tubing and went straight to the drain nipple through the back opening instead of using the 8" piece that came with it and then having to connect a water hose. I would suggest this approach for those willing to purchase another $6 of tube. Only concern at this point is the unit seems to be in defrost mode frequently when I check on it. Not sure if this is of concern yet as to the life-expectancy of the unit. Sylvane did a good job shipping the unit quickly and it was well packaged to ensure no damage.

I bought this unit based on reader reviews even though it is a somewhat pricey dehumidifier.
The last dehumidifier I bought only lasted two or three years so decided to try a more expensive one in the hope it would last longer.
While this unit does lower the humidity in my basement to the desired level and maintain it there; the anti-freeze function does not seem to work properly.
The tempature in my basement throughout the summer was 75 to 80 degrees farenheit yet this unit was constantly going into "thaw out" mode.
It works well besides that; although it spends a LOT of time with the compressor off and the fan on high to de-thaw the non-frozen device.

I have two of these units in a large basement. My original unit was defective but the replacement and the newer one have performed extremely well.

what i like is the improved hose attachment, it is a big improvement to the other dehumidifier i had. i don't have to worry about breaking the attachment if i need to move it.

It works well to remove moisture from the air. I hooked up a hose to use its "run continuously" feature. The air filter is easy to remove and clean without having to remove the bucket.

Hope the product will be improved for its noise!

We were looking for a dehumidifier for our basement. After considerable research we thought that Sylvane gave us the best information for the dehumidifier that we needed and the best information regarding their products and service. We just received our Comfort-Aire dehumidifer in less than a week and are thrilled with its performance so far. It is very quite and immediately reduced our humidity level in our basement and crawl space area to the recommended comfort range. We would not hesitate to order from Sylvane again.
Comments about Comfort-Aire BHD-651-G Dehumidifier:
I have had 2 of these units. They seem to run very well all year. Then I put it away for the winter and in the spring bring it out and the compresser won't kick in. So I bought a new one as these are supposed to be one of the best available. In the meantime they covered my first one under warranty which gave me a spare. Good thing because the one I bought last year has the compressor out of it now. All I do is turn them off and move them about 20 feet in the fall then get it out and turn it on in the spring. I presume they will warranty the second one I bought but the problem is I have this at my lake house and someone is not there all the time to be sure it's running.
Comments about Comfort-Aire BHD-651-G Dehumidifier:
Fantastic. Improved design from the already excellent 5-year-old BHD-651 that we still have and use. Easier air filter removal for cleaning (side slot). New translucent water level visibility slot with float on the water collection bucket. Quieter compressor cycles. Easier to see and use control switches on the top instead of on the top front edge. We came back to get a second BHD-651 from Sylvane for our son's college living quarters and we discovered that these things just keep getting better!

works great in any setting particularly in a cold basement.
Comments about Comfort-Aire BHD-651-G Dehumidifier:
The first one was not dehumidifying very efficiently. Did not have to empty the bucket in 5 days in a basement with 65% humidity and dampness from recent rains. The bucket is difficult to replace; have to bang it with the heel of the hand. Talked with the manufacturer and they sent a new one. After 3 days of use I am dissatisfied. It was working well until I found water all over the floor. The bucket had a large crack (rough handling or poor quality control or remanufactured). The humidity with the new one will not come down below 60% and the unit keeps having to defrost with a 60 basement temperature. Manual does not address this. Contacted Comfort Aire and they were very rude and not helpful at all. Heat Controller was very responsive in sending the replacement unit (which had the cracked bucket).
