Wow, am I impressed, I have never owned a dehumidifier before, so I have had no experience with other brands. This Danby DDR6009REE was purchased for use in our Sierra Mountain vacation home. The house sits on the downward slope on the side of a mountain. The rain and snow drain towards the front of the foundation. There are ample drains available for the rain, but the snow melts slowly and it absorbs into the ground rather than running to the drains. Then water is then absorbed through the concrete foundation and makes the red dirt floor in the basement wet, and it stays wet through the winter and dries out some in the some summer months, but never completely.
So I did a little research online and this one seemed to be the best machine available for the money. I ordered it quite easily online from Sylvane.com. It arrived in about the time frame I expected to deliver, and arrived in good shape. I plugged it in and set up the programming and was I astonished at the amount of water it pulled from the air, and it seemed to do it job ever so quickly. I don't think the fan noise it too load at all. But the best part about the unit, that hasn't been mentioned in other's reviews, is you can use a standard garden hose replacing the one it comes with if you need a longer hose to drain to the outside. I thought I was going to have to go the hardware store and fashion some kind of hook up or extension hose to get the drain hose to reach the outdoors for continuous drain.

After reading lot of reviews from the web search, I have decided to purchase the Danby Dehumidifier Model DDR6009REE at Sylvane. I ordered on Friday and received on following Tuesday. I opened and installed it in my basement. There is a note saying the fan will be on all time whenever the power is on. This is not I expected. I though the fan will automatically turn on and off at the desired humidity level. Anyway, it is not important to me since it works much better than the one I have used from Sear. However, I have problem about the "Bucket Full" light. The "Bucket Full" light will illuminates after turn on about 2 to 3 minutes with no water in the water tank. I use continuous Drain Outlet. Read the manual, but missing page 4 and 5.for the operating instructions. Downloaded the manual from the Danby web site. Try to reseat the water tank but the "Bucket Full" light problem is not fixed and it will illuminates unexpected after power is on. Since I am using the continuous Drain Outlet, I decided to use the tape to force to turn off the safety switch. Afterward it works very well and quiet by comparing the one I have used for over 8 years from Sear. Anyway, it is too soon to tell how well it will work overtime. As of now, I have happy with the product,

Comments about Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier:
A couple weeks after moving into my new apartment, it became clear that I would need a dehumidifier after finding mold on the vents of the wall AC units (I have 3 in a roughly 900 square foot apartment). In addition to that, towels took forever to dry and the bed sheets would be a bit uncomfortable due to the humidity of the apartment. I did some research, and while this model sounded a bit larger than I needed for my apartment, it also came with great reviews in terms of its effectiveness, durability and reliability. I figured I'd spend a bit more now and hedge on the side of caution instead of trying a weaker approach to the humidity of the apartment.
The Danby DDR6009REE has been excellent; it takes a matter of maybe 6-10 hours for it to fill up, and the difference in the apartment is readily apparent every time I walk inside. The damp feeling and smell are gone, as is the discomfort of the bedsheets. Towels are drying faster, and after cleaning up the mold from the AC vents using a mold cleaner, it has not returned.
My only real complaint is that when I remove the bucket, a bit of water (maybe a quarter cup) drips down into the space where the bucket previously sat, with some falling onto the floor. Not a big deal, but this happens when it is off or on; completely full or partially full. It is also a bit noisy. I'm guessing most people would keep this in a basement; I have mine behind a couch and it can be on without any disruption, but it is not silent.
Overall, it is excellent. I am very happy with my purchase. It is easy to use and works fast.

I am posting this as an update to a review from last year. My Danby 6009 is in for warranty repair after only 13 months. The fan runs but the compressor does not kick in to dehumidify the air. The repair center is 40 miles away so dropping the unit off and picking it up will involve 160 miles of travel! I bought this unit to replace an LG that lasted less than 2 years. I hoped to have better luck with this unit but.......

Comments about Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier:
After doing a fair amount of checking various websites, product reviews by Consumers Reports, and reading the informative info available at their website, I decided to purchase 2 Danby 60 pint dehumidifiers from Sylvane, Inc.. We probably needed different sizes of dehumidifiers for the 2 areas at opposite ends of our basement, since my workshop is considerably smaller than the unfinished area at the other end. However, because of a sale on one of the sizes we needed at Sylvane, we decided to go ahead and buy 2 units of the same size. Their price was significantly lower than for any comparably-rated units I considered, especially considering that shipping was included at no extra cost.
Setting up the new Danby units was easy, and registration for warranty purposes was also easy online.
It's too soon (one week) to know how well the Danby units will perform over time, but I expect them to perform well based on ratings by other consumers. I do have a complaint about the Danby units that was disclosed in the consumer reviews; the fan never shuts off when the compressor kicks off at the desired humidity level. As an Engineer, I know it wouldn't have cost Danby a dollar to incorporate the necessary control to enable the fan to shut off automatically when the compressor isn't running, since the units are built in China, and switches are a dime-a-dozen in China. I can see no purpose in having the fan run continuously, except to generate additional revenue for the electric utilities. Hopefully, Danby will take notice of my comments and from dozens of other owners who have voiced similar comments; they should incorporate an automatic fan shutoff in their future dehumidifiers.
Less important is that the discharge hose (for contimuous discharge) is shorter than it could/should be. The hose provided is about 6 Ft long. Again, since the units are built in China, it would have cost Danby all of 2 cents more to include a longer hose (say 10 Ft.) instead of the 6 footer. Because I have the dehumidifiers mounted on support brackets high above the drain in our floors, and I didn't want the discharged condensate to fall freely and splash the floor, I used a cutoff garden hose for the discharge line, rather than what came from Danby.

Comments about Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier:
This dehumidifier took our basement from 80-85% humidity and dropped it to 50% (What I programmed) in 48 hours. I have yet to tie in the water line to drain without having to empty the bucket, but with a little attentiveness to emptying the bucket it works beautifully! The reason I haven't taken the time to tie in the water line is because we just moved in and I was just concerned with getting the machine up and running and will come back to the water line later. Quietness is not a real concern for me since it is in the basement, which isn't livable but we use it for storage. Just a few days ago I could smell the beginnings of mold and now there is no detection of mold smell, moistness, and there is a palpable difference in the air quality. The machine is user friendly and if you're looking for a great product, I would suggest this machine. Again, I've only owned it 72 hours or so, but I'm very happy with this product! I saved a lot by buying through Sylvane as well!

Comments about Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier:
We've had this model appx. two months. When we started using it our basement (1500+ sq. ft.) was 64 deg. At that temp. the defrost feature came on often limiting the dehumidifying time. I thought running the unit would raise the air temp. quite a bit as happened with our old dehumidifier (a different brand). The temp. has only gone up two degrees. The unit still goes into defrost mode but not as often so the humidity is now under control. I think this model would work great in a 68 degree plus area, dehumidifying without overheating the air. Now that I know better, I'll make sure my basement is in the upper 60's before running the dehumidifier.
