Wow, am I impressed, I have never owned a dehumidifier before, so I have had no experience with other brands. This Danby DDR6009REE was purchased for use in our Sierra Mountain vacation home. The house sits on the downward slope on the side of a mountain. The rain and snow drain towards the front of the foundation. There are ample drains available for the rain, but the snow melts slowly and it absorbs into the ground rather than running to the drains. Then water is then absorbed through the concrete foundation and makes the red dirt floor in the basement wet, and it stays wet through the winter and dries out some in the some summer months, but never completely.
So I did a little research online and this one seemed to be the best machine available for the money. I ordered it quite easily online from Sylvane.com. It arrived in about the time frame I expected to deliver, and arrived in good shape. I plugged it in and set up the programming and was I astonished at the amount of water it pulled from the air, and it seemed to do it job ever so quickly. I don't think the fan noise it too load at all. But the best part about the unit, that hasn't been mentioned in other's reviews, is you can use a standard garden hose replacing the one it comes with if you need a longer hose to drain to the outside. I thought I was going to have to go the hardware store and fashion some kind of hook up or extension hose to get the drain hose to reach the outdoors for continuous drain.

After reading lot of reviews from the web search, I have decided to purchase the Danby Dehumidifier Model DDR6009REE at Sylvane. I ordered on Friday and received on following Tuesday. I opened and installed it in my basement. There is a note saying the fan will be on all time whenever the power is on. This is not I expected. I though the fan will automatically turn on and off at the desired humidity level. Anyway, it is not important to me since it works much better than the one I have used from Sear. However, I have problem about the "Bucket Full" light. The "Bucket Full" light will illuminates after turn on about 2 to 3 minutes with no water in the water tank. I use continuous Drain Outlet. Read the manual, but missing page 4 and 5.for the operating instructions. Downloaded the manual from the Danby web site. Try to reseat the water tank but the "Bucket Full" light problem is not fixed and it will illuminates unexpected after power is on. Since I am using the continuous Drain Outlet, I decided to use the tape to force to turn off the safety switch. Afterward it works very well and quiet by comparing the one I have used for over 8 years from Sear. Anyway, it is too soon to tell how well it will work overtime. As of now, I have happy with the product,

After exhaustive research on dehumidifiers, I decided on a Danby DDR6009.
It is being used for a 500 sq ft cottage/efficiency.
It is quiet and efficient and user friendly !
After a few days of use , my place went from 75% humidity , to a comfortable 50%.
Now I only need to use it every now and then. It is pretty light weight and easy to maneuver .
I love the product and the company from which I purchased it from...
Sylvane.

This is my third experience with a dehumidifier. And by far the best!
This one we use upstairs, and a different brand in the basement.
The one in the basement clicks, clanks, and clutters.
The Danby is very effective, and much quieter, even though the fan runs all the time.
Our house is humid all the time, but winter time, with the house closed up, was creating breathing problems for me.
Now, with the Danby, there is a world of difference. No more morning congestion! And no more mildew!
I would recommend this product; it is the best I have tried!
Comments about Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier:
I was pleased with the speed of order delivery. It came ready to go and was at my house within two days of the order. The packaging was also excellent (double boxed with padding to prevent damage). I have waited close to two months before writing a review, therefore giving me a chance to see how the unit actually performs in my situation.
I have it in my basement, which is about a thousand square feet in size. The basement allows water to seep in when the ground surrounding it is saturated, which has been most of the winter so far. The ground usually freezes and I don't have and water seeping in until late spring, but that is not the case this year. I bought this unit to replace a Kenmore unit which had quit on me after about 4 years. That unit was a 70 pint/24 hour appliance and did a pretty good job, but was loud and rattled at times.
With the temperature 52 degrees it would collect up to twenty some pints of water/24 hours when needed and the relative humidity would reach 50% and the dehumidifier would shut off. I studied your unit and read reviews and talked to one of your sales people before purchasing the Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier.
It has done a pretty good job of replacing my previous unit. It is quieter by far an I love that, but I have had difficulty reaching the 50% relative humidity mark in fact think that it has got there yet. It does get to the 53-55% level and stays in that range quite a bit.
It usually takes at least two - three days before it fills up enough shut itself off. This is far from the 60 pint/24 hr period that it is rated for. I'm thinking that the 52 degree temperature and the amount of time the unit is in defrost mode makes the unit inefficient in relation to what the manufacturers tell me it will do.
Maybe I should have tried the 70 pint unit! I would probably recommend this product as far as the quietness goes, but I would really have to think about it as far as being what you need if your area to dehumidify is in the low 50 degree range.
Comments about Danby DDR6009REE Dehumidifier:
excellent product. The only issue I have is that while you can set start and end time by hours, you have to be on site to actually have it start again. Its not a real digital timer, but basically an hours designation... doesnt help us totally as we are not often at this house and i need something that I can time to go on and off daily...

I bought this dehumidifier, after much searching and reviews and have to agree that it is by far the best one i have ever used. very quiet and powerful. I use it in a 24 by 40 garage and it brings the humidity down fast. I would recommend this product to everyone.
