We purchased this dehumidifier for use in our unfinished basement. The basement had developed a strong musty smell even though we had never had any water on the floor or walls. At first, we manually emptied the tank because we wanted to see how much water it was removing. The first day it removed almost two tanks of water out of the air, resulting in a significant reduction of the musty smell. By the end of the next day, the musty smell was completely gone.
Over the next couple of weeks, we would empty the tank each morning and evening and each time the tank would be between 1/3 to 1/2 full. We eventually hooked the hose up and ran it into the sump pump and it has continued to keep the humidity between 36 and 42 percent. We've been using it for about 1 1/2 months now and it has continued to work like a charm, it has kept our basement odor free and dry and it is easy to operate.
We were also very pleased with Sylvane. We placed the order at around 11:30pm on October 18th and the dehumidifier was delivered on October 20th - you can't get much better than that!

I got rave reviews on this product from my in-laws. While it is doing the job, i wonder if there's a better product. Ultimately, the test comes in durability. I won't be able to properly give a true review for another 2-5 years. If it's still working then, it's a 5 star. For now, it's a 3 star.
The dehumidifier works fine in pulling moisture from my basement, creating a dry 50% humidity environment, except that the tempurature in the basement seems to be increased significantly. I can't tell you how much, but it is now hot in my basement. Logically, I wouldn't expect this as a lower humidity should result in a cooler air feel but i think the unit throws off so much heat that it warms my whole basement, which i would estimate at 600 sq ft.
Also, I dump the water as it fills the chamber in the unit. I wish these were designed better. This unit does not pour out well. It spills every time I empty it. There's no good way to pour out the water. I don't think this was designed for or at least it wasn't designed well.

Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
using in a finished basement in Colorado. Humidity down there avg. 55-60%. Using the unit it can only bring the humidity down to about 42% It also gives off heat which has inc. the temp about 10 degrees. I would have purchased a bigger unit because for the aprox 700 to 800 sq feet it just doesn't do the job. I suggest you purchase a much larger unit than you think you need.

Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
So far so good. I habe only had it for a few weeks though, so I am curious as to how it performs in the long haul. Given all the 'hype' about how quite it was in ads and other reviews, I had expected it to less noisy than it is. But its still good. Much quieter than my old dehumidifier. So far, I am happy and have no regrets.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
The product is priced fairly, is quiet and does what it's supposed to do. It was wonderful buying online from Sylvane.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
This humidifier is definitely removing the moisture in our troublesome basement. I don't much like the constant running.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
Works as advertised. Seems to be very effective
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
The dehumidifier is relatively easy to use, and runs quietly. The machine stops when the water level is full, which is a good safety measure.
I wish it would shut off when that happens, but it keeps using up electricity.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
I like this product. The last dehumidifier I had however, you could adjust high, low medium level and it would run for a period of time and shutoff then turn on when the air level of moisture was detected. Didn't have to worry about it running all the time and remembering to turn it off after so long. That is the only downfall I have about this product.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
The Danby 70 pint was very easy to install and took only about 10 minutes to figure everything out. Would like to see a longer drain hose, but those are easy to find at other stores.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
So far, the product has performed as expected. I just run it when the house gets humid (above 55%). I have it in the lower level of a split level house and it works great.
Comments about Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier:
We have been using this dehumidifier in our basement about a month now and it works great. We looked at alot of them before we bought one. Most of our local stores were out of stock on dehumidifiers, saying they are a "seasonal" item, so we decided to order online through Sylvane. Good product and service.
