I have had this unit for 2 years now. The first year, it worked perfect; the second year, it started to leak. I read the reviews and it seems to be a common problem. The manual is no help in how to remedy the problem. I searched through the internet to find how to fix this problem. I finally found a person on the internet who knew what they were speaking of; I took off the panel on the right side of the unit (back view) and there is a small hole where the water should be running into. You must put a small wire down that hole to remove any obstructions, then pour bleach through it.

Also, I never cleaned the filter because there was never any dirt on the filter, but when I took off the panel there is a filter on the unit that was collecting all the dust. I vacummed that part of the unit, reassembled the panels, started up the unit and no more leaks -- and that has been 3 weeks ago. The unit sometimes takes a long time to cool off the room on very hot days, but I realized it is best not to turn off the unit when it is extremely hot, thinking the unit needs to rest from working through the night. It needs to stay on to keep the room comfortable and I also have a ceiling fan to assist with air circulation.

When we first got this unit we were amazed at how it was convienant and cool. I learned the hard way. The unit released so much water during the night that it soaked my carpet so bad. The damage was at leased five feet long and three feet wide. It damaged my living room ceiling as well. As I am googling right now how I can save my smelly warped carpet I came across write a review. DO NOT BUY this unit. It will fool you but long and behold it will leak and ruin what ever its under. I am disgusted by the smell of white vinegar and baking soda trying to clean my carpet that I can not afford to change. This unit was enough money not to do this. Please invest in another unit. Save yourself the scrubbing and construction ahead of time.

      Bought One Summer Ago

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

Leaks all over the floor. Took the air apart and put everything back together and was shocked at what shoddy workmanship went into this. Every time I turn around I have to wipe up the water and it's all placed in properly. The manufacturer needs to change something.

      Delonghi Pinguino 120E

      By Ray Carpenter

      from USA

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

I selected the Delonghi Pinguino A120E and am very pleased with it. The difference in quality was noticed instantly as I unpacked the box. I had the unit up and running in about 5-10 minutes, and it has been doing so non-stop for about 9 days now, and doing a great job in the process. The manual is easy to understand with no loss in translation, and the quality far surpasses each of the two other models I have tried. Frankly, this thing is incredibly productive, yet quite and efficient. If the thing can continue doing such a magnificent job through the summer, Delonghi will have earned a new fan.

      PAC A120E De Longhi A/C 12,000 BTU

      By Doris E

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

We wanted it to take the edge off a 20 x 23 sun room and it worked fine, but the temps were not 90+ like we experienced earlier this summer. I even hooked it up entirely by myself. We should have had a higher BTU, but we were told we might not get it in time for a long weekend of 20+ people.

DeLonghi - Easy, Quick and Affordable

      By James Kopchuk

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

After review of several self-contained air conditioning units, I decided on the DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU)and purchased from Sylvane. The ease of ordering on the Sylvane website was quick and easy. The web site was intuitive and I was able to download a .pdf file of the unit to verify it was good fit for the intended space.

In less than 2 days, the unit was delivered to my home after ordering on a Sunday Afternoon. I reviewed the installation directions and the unit was up and operating within an hour after bringing it in the house. The intended space to cool is a 3rd floor bedroom with lots of sun throughout the day. With the installation of the DeLonghi, the room instantly cools and I can't be happier with the product. I highly recommend this unit to supplement any home HVAC unit which just can't seem to cool the one room furthest from the condensing unit.

Ordering and installation was wasy, quick and an affordable way to cool a room.

      DeLonghi PAC A120E

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

We bought this portable air conditioner for occasional use - times in the late summer when both days and nights are hot and humid. We chose this unit in part because of the extended warranty on the compressor. This particular unit was also reduced in price because it had been previously opened. We have had no problems with this unit, but were reassured by Sylvane 's one month return policy.

We get the best performance from this air conditioner under hot and humid conditions by first dehumidifying and then cooling individual rooms. The amount of cooling possible is relative to the outside temperature: we can only cool the inside to around ten degrees below the outside temperature. After reaching this differential, continuous cooling does not improve the inside temperature; so it makes sense to turn the air conditioner off for awhile (which can happen automatically by setting the temperature control appropriately). If we combine the cooling and dehumidification, the inside environment is still fairly comfortable even if the inside temperature reads 80 degrees.

We have had no problems with the unit leaking onto the floor. There is some condensation around the cooling vent.

We are able to use this unit with a casement window by fitting a thin piece of plywood into the window opening that has a circle cut into plywood for the hose attachment. The plywood needs to be snug - we tacked a strip of wool around the outside edge to avoid damaging the window frame. We also added a handle to the plywood so we can easily pull the plywood out.

The unit has a few shortcomings: the casters are not easy to roll, and the exhaust hose seems short. Our windows are low, but the hose might not reach a higher window. The air conditioning and humidifier modes seem loud, but we aren't surprised as the compressor is in the room (rather than outside as with a window air conditioner).

      leaks

      By MIke & Elizabeth

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

Like the others, my unit leaks. I have the drain plug open, but the unit leaks from around the edges. Water does drain from the plug, so it isn't clogged. My unit is just 2 years old. It has never issued a full tank error, and I suspect it never will. I'd recommend _any_ other solution, unless you want to mount it above a large tray to collect the water.

      Leaks 2 gallons overnight

      By Kevin S

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):

I loved this unit, until it started leaking about 2 weeks into it's use.
Delonghi is no help, and there is only 1 service center in California, 50 miles from my house. The service center says the blower motors that evaporate the water and send it out through the vent hose go bad, and it's common. Delonghi tech support seems clueless.
If I had known how many people complained about the leaking, and how poor the support is from the manufacturer, I never would have bought it.
