I have had this unit for 2 years now. The first year, it worked perfect; the second year, it started to leak. I read the reviews and it seems to be a common problem. The manual is no help in how to remedy the problem. I searched through the internet to find how to fix this problem. I finally found a person on the internet who knew what they were speaking of; I took off the panel on the right side of the unit (back view) and there is a small hole where the water should be running into. You must put a small wire down that hole to remove any obstructions, then pour bleach through it.
Also, I never cleaned the filter because there was never any dirt on the filter, but when I took off the panel there is a filter on the unit that was collecting all the dust. I vacummed that part of the unit, reassembled the panels, started up the unit and no more leaks -- and that has been 3 weeks ago. The unit sometimes takes a long time to cool off the room on very hot days, but I realized it is best not to turn off the unit when it is extremely hot, thinking the unit needs to rest from working through the night. It needs to stay on to keep the room comfortable and I also have a ceiling fan to assist with air circulation.

When we first got this unit we were amazed at how it was convienant and cool. I learned the hard way. The unit released so much water during the night that it soaked my carpet so bad. The damage was at leased five feet long and three feet wide. It damaged my living room ceiling as well. As I am googling right now how I can save my smelly warped carpet I came across write a review. DO NOT BUY this unit. It will fool you but long and behold it will leak and ruin what ever its under. I am disgusted by the smell of white vinegar and baking soda trying to clean my carpet that I can not afford to change. This unit was enough money not to do this. Please invest in another unit. Save yourself the scrubbing and construction ahead of time.

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
This is the second portable Air Conditioner unit that I have purchased this summer from Sylvane.(making the third unit in the household) I was so pleased when I called customer help line. The customer service representative answered all my questions and help reassure me that I was buying the proper size unit for my needs. The unit, DeLonghi PAC A120E, arrived as promised in 2 DAYS!!!! The set up is a breeze. I believe the DeLonghi is the best portable unit. The temperature of the air is much colder than other brands. I love that there is absolutely NO maintenance to do!
Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
This unit does a great job of taking humidity out of the air... and then dumps it all over the ground. It proudly advertises that it does not need a water bucket, but it would be better off if it did. That way floors don't get wet or wooden floors don't buckle. A simple much cheaper window AC unit with same power will be much less of a headache even with all the window mounting. At least you will not have to worry about moisture that gets dumped in the room, just to evaporate again and the whole cycle starts over.

I have had my DeLonghi Pinguino portable air conditioner for over a year now, and I am more than pleased with the performance of the machine. I have had NO PROBLEMS whatsoever with it. We have an "L" shaped living-room/dining room, with an enclosed kitchen off the dining area, and the machine certainly cools all three rooms very well, and the cooling even extends out into the hall off the living room. I have read reviews from some people who say the unit leaks, and I'm wondering if they inserted the plug in the back of the unit that is supposed to prevent leaking? Anyway, I have nothing but good things to say about this unit, and am considering buying a second one for the downstairs area where there is a family room, 2 bedrooms, and bathroom.
I live in a Canadian province where, in the summer, we usually get at least 2 weeks of really damp, HUMID, muggy weather. The dehumidifying program on the Pinguino works really well, and I am grateful for it during those days when it is unbearably hot, rainy, and humid.
Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
Called Delonghi today and advised them of my cooling trouble with this unit.( Note that this unit is in my 2nd floor bedroom, which is only 143 sq. ft. and this unit is 12,000 BTU, made to cool 400 sq. ft.) I was told that this unit was not designed to chill a room area, only to keep it comfortable at about 77 degrees and that window AC units and central air are the best at cooling. This unit does not cut it when it's 90 plus degrees outside. I'm buying a window unit now and this Delonghi unit is going in the trash.

I'd advise anyone who cares about their floors to avoid this unit. It leaks badly. I returned one because it leaked, thinking it was an aberration. It wasn't. The second one leaks too.
Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
I've had this product for a full year-- setup was easy and it cools my room great. Product is just a bit noisy and not the best-looking in your living room, but otherwise, it's great.
Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
Cools the room great, but leaks. Unless you want water damage, try another unit.

We had a unit before that worked well for one year. We then purchased a replacement unit that we have had problems with from day one. We have had problems getting this repaired or replaced.
Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
Cools the room wonderfully, but leaks terribly and is somewhat noisy. We ran the AC only for several hours during the day, and within 2 days, the carpet where the AC sat was saturated and the hardwood floor beneath was buckling. Not worth the hassle.
