I have had this unit for 2 years now. The first year, it worked perfect; the second year, it started to leak. I read the reviews and it seems to be a common problem. The manual is no help in how to remedy the problem. I searched through the internet to find how to fix this problem. I finally found a person on the internet who knew what they were speaking of; I took off the panel on the right side of the unit (back view) and there is a small hole where the water should be running into. You must put a small wire down that hole to remove any obstructions, then pour bleach through it.
Also, I never cleaned the filter because there was never any dirt on the filter, but when I took off the panel there is a filter on the unit that was collecting all the dust. I vacummed that part of the unit, reassembled the panels, started up the unit and no more leaks -- and that has been 3 weeks ago. The unit sometimes takes a long time to cool off the room on very hot days, but I realized it is best not to turn off the unit when it is extremely hot, thinking the unit needs to rest from working through the night. It needs to stay on to keep the room comfortable and I also have a ceiling fan to assist with air circulation.

When we first got this unit we were amazed at how it was convienant and cool. I learned the hard way. The unit released so much water during the night that it soaked my carpet so bad. The damage was at leased five feet long and three feet wide. It damaged my living room ceiling as well. As I am googling right now how I can save my smelly warped carpet I came across write a review. DO NOT BUY this unit. It will fool you but long and behold it will leak and ruin what ever its under. I am disgusted by the smell of white vinegar and baking soda trying to clean my carpet that I can not afford to change. This unit was enough money not to do this. Please invest in another unit. Save yourself the scrubbing and construction ahead of time.

Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
I had to return my unit after only one week. Although it did work to cool the room, after just two days, it was leaking all over the floor, which warped my hardwoods and smelled awful. We tried to trouble shoot, drain it, make sure it was venting properly, but nothing worked. My husband noticed screws poking through the bottom and we called the number on the manual. She said that was not supposed to happen and to return it to the store. Not sure if we just had a faulty one, but I have seen other reviews like this.
Comments about DeLonghi PAC A120E Portable Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU):
We have a bonus room above our garage that is used as a bedroom for two of our children. It is typically warmer up there in the hot months, and with record temperatures this year, we knew it was time to get a supplemental A/C unit. Our home is a newer home built in a classic style and I wasn’t too thrilled about the idea of an unsightly window unit sticking out in a prominent place. After researching options online, I came upon the Delonghi brand of portable air conditioners and particularly the PAC A120E model.
Some of my research indicated that portable units were not the best performers at cooling an entire room. I was a little apprehensive of this, especially given the price premium over typical window units, but felt that Delonghi was a trusted brand and the 12,000 BTU rating of the A120E would be enough for the need. I took the plunge, ordered one, and received it just a few days later. The setup and connection to the outside window was as easy as opening and closing the window on the included window bracket, attaching the hose to the unit, and plugging it in. I didn’t even have to remove the window screen. I purchased some inexpensive foam strips to help seal the window bracket. From the outside, you can hardly tell that anything is different.
We have been so pleased with this unit! We keep the fan speed on the lowest setting and it does a great job cooling the room. I have monitored to see if any moisture drips or collects around the unit, but it has stayed completely dry. All of the moisture is sent out the hose through the window and vaporized. The children typically use the “sleep function at night, which maintains the temperature and humidity while keeping the fan speed low. It gradually shuts down over the course of the night so it doesn’t disturb their sleep.
It has literally been a turnkey appliance that has met the need admirably well. I would highly recommend it as a supplemental unit for rooms like ours that require extra cooling.
