Hi, I just purchased a Dri-Eaz CMC100 crawlspace dehumidifier to fix my problem. I passed several days on internet to find out which dehumidifier would be the best to buy. I found that this model has many important characteristics that others don't have, such as the condensate pump already installed in the unit.

With other manufacturers, this pump is not part of the unit and consumers tend to forget about that, therefore, raising the price of the installation, being more complex and not esthetic. It also has a hygrometer with digytal display and several air passage configurations making it the best choice for every situation. I don't want to influence anybody but I think that if anybody spends as much time as me searching for a product, he should look at all of these important features before making a wise decision.

I bought this unit in September 2009 and placed it into service in my 1400 square ft crawlspace. It worked well for the first ten months. Humidity level went from 68% down to 45% after running for one week. During the summer I noticed the unit was running 24/7. There was a 10% difference in between the actual humidity in the crawl as measured by two hygrometers and the reading on this unit. I called Legend Brands (Dri Eaz) and they had me take it apart and try cleaning it out again. By August 2010 it was running 24x7 and not removing any moisture. My electric bill was up and additional $80 per month. I brought it in to a service center and found out the condenser coil had a crack in it and the refrigerant escaped. They wanted $500 to repair it. Dri Eaz support notified me there was a problem with the sensor in these units that could cause the problems I was having with it running all the time. With some persistence on my part I got them to send me a replacement unit although it took three months of troubleshooting and phone calls to make it happen. They also informed me the replacement unit would have no warranty since I was at the end of the warranty on my original unit.

The replacement unit they sent me did not work on arrival. I started it up inside my house where the humidity level was 44% and the units gauge reported 63%. It turned on and ran for 3 minutes, turned off for three, and then ran again for another three minutes. This cycle continued for 30 minutes until I unplugged it. When I open up the unit I discovered they sent me another refurbished CMC100 because some of the cooling fins were slightly bent.

I haven't only been dissatisfied with the CMC100 itself but also Legend Brand's seemingly nonchalant attitude towards making things right and honoring their warranty. I can not recommend this product to anyone and will avoid purchasing a product manufactured by this company for the rest of my life.

It has only been A week or so since I installed the unit and the entire crawlspace is dry and maintaining the humidity and temp levels that I set. Ease of installation and setup was great.

    Dri-Eaz CMC100 Not Made by Dri-Eaz

    By Joseph Dobbs

Comments about Dri-Eaz CMC100 Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

I was told by Dri-Eaz that they do not manufacture these. They just sell them. That is why CMC100 is not shown on Dri-Eaz website and is shown on separate website. Guess that is why they are slow or do not correct design defects like the pump. Even though this is common practice they should tell people about it.

    Very nice unit

Comments about Dri-Eaz CMC100 Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

This is a very nice unit, also I need to point out that Sylvane does a great job packing and shipping. The packing was top notch and arrived much quicker than I thought it would. I have had other items which are rather heavy like this shipped with less care from other retailers, and sometimes I have had to refuse them with other sellers - this looks like it would never be a problem with Sylvane because of the very good packing shipping job they do. If I need to buy anything else along these lines I am going to be looking here first!

This humidifier is doing a great job. So much more efficient, quiet, keeping the crawl space dryer than what I was using before. It allows my air conditioner to run much less.

    So Far So Good

    By Maureen Ward

Comments about Dri-Eaz CMC100 Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

I purchased the Dri-Eaz Crawlspace Dehumidifier on the recommendation of the sales person. Originally, I had planned to buy a more expensive unit.

For my 900sqft basement recently recovering from a serious flood, this unit has been a wonderful find. The area has been emptied and damage has been demoed out, but a dankness had remained since the flood. Within 24 hours of setting this unit up, we have an average humidity of 60 percent. This continues during a heatwave and a number of stormy weekends. The normally damp concrete remains dry; the pipes, which had been sweating every summer since the house was built, are also dry.

My only complaint is the fain noise on the unit. It's a very powerful fan and it is noisy, I am hoping that when I hook it up to a duct system it will muffle the sound. Otherwise, it will be like trying to watch TV while someone vacuums in the next room.

    Dri-Eaz CMC100 Review

    By Bryan Rizzo

    from USA

Comments about Dri-Eaz CMC100 Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

I purchased the Dri-Eaz CMC100 Crawlspace Dehumidifier for my walk-out basement. The basement area is approximately 1,700 square feet and is typically at 60% humidity during the summer when not running a dehumidifier. Before purchasing the Dri-Eaz, I had one of those portable 70-pint units you typically see in a major home improvement store.

There is absolutely no comparison between the Dri-Eaz model and the previous 70-pint unit I was using. The 70-pint unit was of inferior quality (cheap plastic), would run almost constantly to try and get the area to 55% humidity, and would often ice-up â€" causing the unit to be inefficient.

The Dri-Eaz model is smaller, metal construction, and has no problem getting the same area down to about 40%. The fact that it gets the area down to 40% is impressive given the size of the basement. Also, the basement contains a well water tank, which would previously often collect moisture on the outside of the tank. Even when using the previous dehumidifier, there would still be moisture collection on the well water tank. However, with the Dri-Eaz, the exterior of the tank is completely dry.

On the new Dri-Eaz unit, I have no issue with icing. Also, the small condensate pump that comes with the unit allowed me to run the drain pipe to a nearby floor drain. Furthermore, I actually think this unit is slightly quieter compared to the portable unit I used to own.

The unit allows you to redirect the airflow based on your needs. This is something I did not need to worry about for now as the basement is unfinished. However, in the near future, I plan on finishing the basement. The fact that the unit allows you to redirect the airflow, and even add ductwork to the unit, was a major benefit â€" again, something you will not get from cheaper portable units often found in home improvement stores.

When I made the purchase, I had to reach out to Sylvane for customer support due to some problems I was having with placing my order through the computer. I was able to speak with a live customer service representative, who was able to quickly resolve the issue.

So far, this was an excellent purchase â€" one that I would highly recommend.

    Working Great

    By Paul Coleman

Comments about Dri-Eaz CMC100 Crawlspace Dehumidifier:

I live in North Alabama and encapsulated my crawlspace with R7.5 foamular insulation board (polyisocyanurate) on the walls and 6 mil clear plastic on the floor. I then conditioned the crawlspace by opening an air vent in existing duct work. After all the work was completed, the humidity remained in the 70% range. After much research and product comparison, the CMC100 seemed to be the best fit for the job. It was difficult determining the difference between the two models listed, F391 or F391-A. Reviewing the manual only reveals a difference in amperage, 5.3 versus 6.2.

After initial installation of the dehumidifier, the unit began leaking water after approximately one day of use. Calling the helpful folks at DRI-EAZ revealed that settings below 45% humidity would prevent the unit from going into defrost mode. They sent a "Jumper Sensor for Defrost Wire", free of charge to remedy the situation.
