The detector worked as described: plug it in; wait 2 days; and get a first reading.

My reading started at 2.1 - apparently higher than normal due to high winds - and gradually dropped to a 1.7 average over the next week. While that is technically a safe level, I plan to see if small amounts of ventilation with a small CPU fan drawing from my basement drains or other points in the basement can lower that level.

The ability to reset it, take repeated readings under different conditions, in different locations and at different times of the year is the beauty of the device. It beats buying multiple one shot tests, waiting for mail-away results and wondering if things have changed later. In NJ three tests would exceed the cost of the detector.

I highly recommend it for peace of mind if you have any potential for radon exposure, as most of us ground dwellers do. If you are planning on selling your home, it is also good to know in advance what the reading typically is to avoid being surprised by a potentially faulty test done during a home inspection that could force you to hastily do unnecessary remediation to avoid jeopardizing closing. Loan it to your neighbors and relatives; make them aware of any problems; it could reduce their risk of lung cancer. How many devices can you say that about?

My neighborhood seems to have random occurances of radon gas in some of the homes. This product was recommended by others in my neighborhood. I just took it out of the box 2 days ago and hooked it up in one of my rooms. I was waiting for colder weather as I have a tendancy to keep my doors wide open for fresh air and to let the dog come and go as she pleases. I will know more as the weeks go by as I plan to move it around the house and to the crawl space throughout the next 6 months.

This product has been know for it's defect, as per my mitigation guy. It will not stay in the "S" mode when that's what I set it at. It automatically goes into the "L" mode and will not return to the "S" mode. This happens intermittently; and the reading is not over 4.0. This product is about my health, and the health of my lungs. Which I consider very important as I have lost a loved one from lung cancer caused by radon. I am extremely disappointed, and want a replacement that works properly!

I only recently became aware of Radon and was very concerned about the levels in my older home. Instead of hiring a professional, I chose to search out some alternate testing methods on the internet.
