I bought this product as the first step to start "fixing" my basement. I did a lot of research and according with the requirements I needed, this was the first option.
While researching, the people at Sylvane customer service were very useful and kind to answer all my questions.
In regard the unit, very easy to install, even my son could have done it. Right out of the box, just a few things to put together, a few hoses and that is it. The built in pump is the greatest feature on this unit, no hassle to empty the bucket everytime it gets full....You just run the small drain hose to a drain location and forget about the bucket.
On the other side, the unit is not as noisy as it is said around, unit is more than quite and does the jobs as it was supposed to.
My basement had some serious problem after a big flood in Rhode Island this year, I decided to go for a french drain to fix the problem, but I first bought this unit and now I don't even think I would do the drain, probably with just a sump pump on a corner of the basement and this unit running together will do the job. After I ran the dehumidifier for a couple of days, the moisture smell kind of dissapear from my basement. At the same time, my floor used to sweat a lot and my finger could get wet by just running it thru the floor, now that wetness is completely gone.
I have to assume that I this unit is for a 1400 sf basement and my is only 900.
I highly recommend this unit to everyone.

Disappointed
Appears to be of quality construction. Was extremely disappointed that the "Full Bucket" LED stared blinking shortly after installing. It is on the way back to the supplier now.

Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
I had a very damp basement over the summer due to an unusually humid season and a preference for not running the household air conditioner. Over time, a musty odor developed in my unfinished basement so I decided to research an appropriate dehumidifier. Reliability and capacity were my two primary concerns given the area to be conditioned is just under 1400 square feet. Affordability was also a concern.
After many hours of research on the web, I was somewhat disappointed with the reported reliability and features of the units I deemed affordable. As I was about to compromise on something that I wasn't totally satisfied with, I came across the Friedrich D70BP at Sylvane. The numbers seemed to meet my criteria and, after further review of available customer feedback, I couldn't find any real negatives and proceeded with the order.
Using the available free ground shipping offered by Sylvane, the unit arrived in great shape and sooner than I expected. At approximately 50 lbs, it is a solid, and from all appearances, well built piece of equipment. I had originally planned to use the gravity fed drain hose option rather than the built-in condensation drain pump. Upon inspection, the supplied hose for the passive drainage was just too short for my application. I did end up using the supplied 15 foot tubing in conjunction with the built-in condensation pump. This combination works very well and without issue.
Within the first few hours of operation, the D70BP brought the basement humidity down from 73% to approximately 58%. Over the next three days the desired 45% was achieved and the unit began cycling off and on as expected. Even on the high fan setting, the dehumidifier produces less noise than a whole-basement air cleaner that I once had running, so, this is not an issue for me.
The only negative so far is the inaccurate relative humidity indicated on the D70BP's digital display. While the temperature is accurate, the reported humidity is somewhat high. It's easy enough to get around this by using an independent humidity display somewhere in the room. Once you have an accurate reading, you can then set the D70BP's desired level relative to what it is displaying. Overall, not a major concern.
Time will test the unit's overall reliability, but so far it has delivered as advertised!

Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
Bought this unit to assist our home AC unit with condensate and for use in foreclosed homes where we have a water leak. So far, I'm very pleased with it. Super easy to set up and use. The pump works great. I have the included line routed through a closet and into a bathtub drain. It also has a gravity feed line and a builtin bucket you can empty if you choose. This thing removes a lot of water. It isn't silent, but is barely audible when in the next room. I'm a happy camper.
Comments about Friedrich D70BP Dehumidifier:
I really like the Friedrich dehumidifiers. I owned the first one almost 5 years now, I like it so well that I ordered 2 more. The new ones have nicer features on them, so they are keeping up the the newest designs. Very thoughtful for the consumer. Thank you.
