I purchased the Santa Fe Classic to replace a defunct Kenmore model. I decided to take the plunge and spend the extra money on this unit after many glowing reviews. It is a fantastic unit. Solidly built, fast and efficient. My ~1000 sq ft. basement went from water condensing on the walls and piping to comfortable and dry in one weekend. The unit is a little loud, but it's worth it. After about a week and half, the unit now seems to only cycle on once or twice a day for about a half hour.
I also bought the condensate pump and the two work well together.
Would I buy this unit again? Absolutely. Would I recommend this unit? Without hesitation.

I have this unit in an unfinished 2200 sq ft basement. it worked excellently for 4 years but this year it stopped dehumidifying. I have called the therma stor service department who offered a few options before removing the cover. those options did not work so we had to remove the outer panel and do some tests together. while that is a nice option to have with the service people here's the problem. they diagnosed it to be a bad refrigeration part for a leak.
but there are basically no options to get this repaired. they aren't any authorized thermastor service people. No one in my area (PA) knows how to repair this or they do not want to get involved and I can't blame them. They are just no familiar with the unit. The only other option is to send it back to Thermastor in WI at my expense both ways. That also requires me to buy a pallet. The est. costs by Thermastor is $600. BUYER BEWARE!

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
We moved into a house that has a berm on the north side, As a result, the back rooms that are running along the north bermed wall were musty and damp. There were areas of the house that would grow a thin layer of mold on surfaces. The floor was constantly sticky, and there were odors coming from the closet. This house does not have a basement, so whatever dehumidification product we purchased would have to be placed in our living area.
I recently purchased the Santa Fe Classic, and have not been disappointed. We actually placed it in our laundry room and have a pump which pumps the water into our washer drain. It works out really well. The Classic faces toward the door, so the dry air is forced out of the room. I considered ducting it, but it is not necessary if you point the fan out towards a door. It's very easy to keep the humidity level at 50%, or lower. When we first set it up, it took a few days to reduce the humidity down to 50%, but the musty smell was gone almost immediately. The Classic was very easy to set up. Just take it out of the box, find your spot, and plug it in. If you purchase a pump, that is very easy to attach. It is not any noisier than the big-box dehumidifiers. We are very pleased with the Santa Fe Classic. In addition, the ordering process was painless.
We have friends with mold problems, and have recommended this product for them. After using the Santa Fe Classic, and using the standard big-box dehumidifiers, I realize that there is a huge difference between the two. You'll notice how well made the Santa Fe is. You'll realize that you purchased a well made product.
Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
I purchased this unit a few weeks after Irene. It arrived via UPS Freight on schedule. It's definitely heavy but two people can handle moving the unit around. I place it in my basement (~1000 sqft with partition). Setting up the unit was very simple. It ran straight for a few days but now cycles on and off.
The bottom line is that my basement does NOT have a smell anymore and feels much drier. The true test will come next summer when the humidity really kicks in.
It's definitely worth the price. Forget about messing around with units from big box store retailers.
Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
Our basement has always been a place where you went down and came back up as quickly as possible because the smell of moisture and must was so bad. The Santa Fe classic ran continuously for 2 weeks and each day, the smell disappeared more and more. Now it cycles on and off as needed. The only negative if there is any, is that it's a little noisy. I would compare it to the typical noise from a window air conditioner. This is however, a small concession to make for the job that it does. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
We had record amounts of rainfall over the last two months, leaving us with a very musty, humid basement. We had a small dehumidifier purchased from a big box store running previously, however it simply was unable to keep up with the size of our basement (it is about 1,000 square feet). From our calculations we would have needed four of those units to dehumidify the space.
We ordered the Santa Fe Classic on Wednesday afternoon and it had arrived by LTL truck on Friday afternoon, so delivery was appreciably quick!
We plugged the unit in on Friday evening, and by the following Monday the humidity level in the basement was remarkably improved. Some concerns we have at this point: it has been almost two weeks and the dehumidifier has not stopped running. There are still trace amounts of water moving through the discharge line, however I'm concerned about the electric bill at the end of the month. I'm also not crazy about the noise - it is a very loud unit.
We plan to purchase the ducting kit shortly and place the unit in a closet. Hopefully this will improve circulation in the room as well as muffle the sound.
Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
It is making the basement dry and we could not do that before. Took several days however. Setup was easy.

Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
I have had the Santa Fe Classic dehumidifier for a month now. Works as expected and may be overkill for my application. I spent the extra money, for the models claimed reliability and efficiency.
Two downsides:
1. It is noisier then I like. The dehumidifier is currently in an unfinished portion of my basement. With the door closed to my basement, I can barely hear it when I'm on the first floor. However, when I'm in the basement the noise level is quite noticeable. To make the noise level tolerable, I just close the door to the unfinished portion of the basement. I will purchase the muffler kit; hopefully it will solve this issue.
2. Cost. You can purchase a whole house dehumidifier that plugs into the central air system for less money but less efficiancy.
Comments about Santa Fe Classic Dehumidifier:
Excellent machine, not too noisy and works very well, the RH levels drop off very fast within a few hours of use
