This dehumidifier was purchased for use in our unfinished basement, which is completely below grade. It is replacing a 30 pint unit which was not very effective especially due to the coolness of our basement.
We use the basement as a work shop, laundry room, and also for various crafts, so it is important to maintain a low humidity level. The new Soleus dehumidifier was delivered about one week after ordering, arriving on time and in good condition. It was extremely easy to unpack and set up. It was easy to carry downstairs since it has a built in carrying handle on top of the machine.
The manual is very concise and is recommended reading since it details all the features and indicates that it should be operated in the continuous mode for the first 24 hour break in period, probably not the way I would have set it up. This machine works very well at removing moisture. I had no idea that our basement was at greater than 70 percent relative humidity until I plugged it in.
It began removing moisture almost immediately, filling the bucket within the first 24 hours. So far we have been dumping the bucket manually, so we can keep track of the water removed. This unit does have an easily accessible fitting to enable attaching a garden hose directly to the machine.
The only draw back to this unit is that the fan may be considered loud to some people, especially if used in a living space. For us the fan noise is not an issue since it is located in the basement. It cannot be heard from the first floor living space, even when operated on the high fan setting. We appreciate the high air flow (and subsequent noise) from this unit since we need circulation in our basement area. Overall a very good value.

I called Soleus only to be told to replace it or take it to a local service for repair. I did not take the warranty when I purchased it but figured no unit would fail that fast . My old GE lasted 20 years!
I am not happy with the cold response I received .I will research other manufacturers and hope I can find a more reliable one.

Although this machine did pull the air out of the room very well it also heated it up by about 10 degrees. It only blew extremely warm air and therefore I had to replace it.

We needed a dehumidifier to help dry out our basement. We did our "due diligence" and thoroughly researched various makes of dehumidifiers. The uniformly excellent reviews of this Soleus model caught our attention, and so we ordered it, well aware that sometimes reviews inflate the quality of a product. Not so in this case!
There are quite a few things that have sold us absolutely on this model. For starters, it is efficiently packaged, easy to open, and a whiz to set up and start. Basically, all we had to do was plug it in and let it go to work. The noise level of the fan, even when the unit is working full blast, is not an issue (noisiness was a common complaint with other dehumidifiers we read about). The unit has various settings of time of operation. We followed the manual's suggestion to run it on "continuous" at first. We have been surprised at how quickly the Soleus reduced the humidity level in our basement. At first we had to empty the dehumidifier every couple of hours, but now that the humidity is at a much lower level, we have to empty it only once or twice a day.
It is very simple to empty the machine, a nice design feature. The automatic shut-off feature means we don't have to constantly check to see if it's ready to be emptied. When we get around to it, we will probably connect the hose to a drain so we won't have to worry about emptying the machine. We are really sold on the Soleus and are thinking about ordering a second unit to use in a rental property we own.

Have a very large, unfinished basement (approx 2000 sq. ft.) and the humidity level was around 75% due to the hot and humid weather. I plugged this in, drained to the sump pump, turned it on Medium, and within a few days, the level was down to 62%.
It's extremely quiet and well built, and for the money I can't think of anything which would do the job better.

I searched so many internet sites, reviews...did the Consumer Reports perusing...so glad I came upon the Sylvane website. The Soleus is the most solid dehumidifier we have ever owned, been thru 2 so far in 8 years, last one was from Kenmore, it was eh...hope this one lasts a long time. Does a great job in keeping our large basement dry, pretty quiet,too...auto shutoff very nice. Got this unit in 4 business days, packed very well and secure...will order from Sylvane again if need be. Great company, very nice product,thanks!

Easy to set up, very quiet, very well made. Bucket is easy to see water level, very smooth to pull out and empty. I was afraid it would be to heavy, but at 70+ I was able to get it to my basement, unpack it and set it up. I have highly recommended it to a sister.

Very simple to operate. Works great. Much quieter then our old machine. We hooked up the hose and water started to come out instantly. Could not ask for better performance.

The first day I received the unit, I plugged it in and within 5 hours emptied the bucket twice. Very quiet, the only problem is that the bucket used to empty the water is a bit awkward, as there is no spout. But this is really not a problem. Like the humidity level feature. Thinking of purchasing another one for an enclosed room in the basement
