I've had my Soleus LX-140 for about a week now and it is working great! So far the outside temperature hasn't been over 90 degrees, but this thing is blowing out some really cold air!!! My only gripe so far is with the shipping company not being able to find my correct address...but that doesn't have anything to do with Sylvane. Sylvane was very very quick in processing the shipment and the packaging was super sturdy to protect the unit. I had a tough time locating the instruction manual and remote (they were stuffed into one of the tubing pieces) but once I found them I was ready to go!
Installation didn't take more than 15 minutes into my sliding glass window which is 73 inches in height. I did end up purchasing some foam tape to tighten up the gaps between the door and the window kit. I haven't used the other options available (fan/dehumidifier/heat), but so far the cooling is fantastic! I have the unit in my living room which is about 600 sq feet and it connects to the kitchen and there are also two bedrooms located on the same floor. I turned the unit on Max fan speed and set the thermostat to the minimum of 61 degrees and I can immediately feel the difference in the living room.
After about 30 minutes, the circulation reached the kitchen and after about 1 hours time I noticed even the bedrooms cooled down just a bit. I would've been satisfied if this thing only cooled down the living room, but seeing how the benefit is extending to the rest of the home is very nice! I'm going to keep the unit running since it's supposed to heat up next week past the 90's since there were some reviews where people were saying their units were leaking puddles of water on their floor.
Overall, I'd recommend this product to anyone who needs A/C primarily in one or few rooms (that are connected) before they invest in central A/C. A little less than $500 versus a few thousand is a great savings...not to mention the utility bill difference every month too!

The portable a/c can cool the room we got it for. It's a little loud, but most single room units are i guess. The set up was a little challenging. We have it venting out a window and its probably better suited for a sliding glass door. The hoses are bulky and the vents can easily come out of the their slots. Also, the instructions say to remove it from the window when not in operation, which is too much hassle and results in the vents coming out of their slots (we leave it in the window). We've only had it about a month, so we'll see how it performs over time.

It works, but you may have to work at it. My upstairs 16' x 14' room with a 5' x 4' direct direct sun exposure window and a large screen TV and a DVR that puts out a suprising amount of heat. It is the hottest room in the condo even with R30 attic insulation.
I put solar screens on both sides of the window. The exhaust traveled under the solar screen and turned the window into a radiator and the exhaust tube was very hot and radiating into the room. It did not cool enough. I then put the A/C on top of an old tall dresser (immobilize the wheels, I used some 3" foam squares). I then vented up 36" directly through the ceiling into the attic after insulating the tube (it is cool to the touch). The way it cools now leads me to believe that I could have used a smaller unit, like 9,000 or 10,000 BTU. So it went from a unit that was useless to one that over produces just because of the installation, so think it through.
Comments about Soleus Air LX-140 Portable Air Conditioner and Heater:
We bought this unit for our server room. We need a unit to handle the cooling, but be reliable. The memory function, when power is lost and comes back on, is a critical feature.
Comments about Soleus Air LX-140 Portable Air Conditioner and Heater:
Hmm. Not very happy with this a/c. Doesn't cool as hoped. Have room with three computers and a server. The rooms can get as warm as 87F during the summer and this a/c can only get it back to 80F. Hardly any use. The worst part about it is that there is occasionally water below the unit. I can't say it's a good product. It's cheap but doesn't work for me.
Comments about Soleus Air LX-140 Portable Air Conditioner and Heater:
I bought his heater/air conditioner because I will be moving to a new home soon. I had an in wall heater/air conditioner which was 18,000btu that was working well, but it was running on 220v and it was very expensive to run. It had no thermostat in it so I would have to keep changing the temperature and shutting in on and off. I was a bit worried about this system keeping up to par with the other since it is 14,000btu and it is 120v.
I set up this system through a window, of which was very easy to do, and I am using it for heating now. This system is fantastic! It has a built in thermostat and heats and cools super fast. I love the built in thermostat. I never have to bother much with the unit since I have it set. It does come with a remote though. My space area is about 1020sq ft. and it takes care of the whole house. I can move it about but there is no need to since it sets in the front room and it looks alot cleaner and prettier that my old air conditioner. This is a GREAT value and moneysaver on electrical. I would put my money on this over any other unit of comparison.

does not work half as good as the last one.

Have been using this product for about 4 weeks and it does an excellent job. I am cooling an area more than the recommended size of 500 sq ft and it keeps the space very comfortable even though the average outside temperature has been 93+ degrees. No problems yet.

Comments about Soleus Air LX-140 Portable Air Conditioner and Heater:
Too noisy, but allows you to fall a sleep after like two hours of counting on your mind trying to forget about the noise this unit is making....not the best on the market, for sure although its function is just as good as others.
Comments about Soleus Air LX-140 Portable Air Conditioner and Heater:
This unit is a great way to increase the comfort level in your home 3 ways:
In the winter, you can use it to augment the furnace by putting it in a cold spot in your home and letting it bring a small area up to temp.
When the house gets a little too warm in the summer, turn it on to "dehumidify" and it takes the moisture out of the area and makes it more comfortable.
When it is just too hot, turn it on A/C and let it cool your living room, large bedroom, etc.
One warning - this is a good sized unit and it will turn a smaller room into an icebox if you just turn it all the way down and leave it. Set the thermostat to a temperature at which you normally feel comfortable and it will do the rest.
