This model has served us very well. It was easy to install-- we even managed to get it to fit in an odd sized window--and is cooling a pretty large room without difficulty. Haven't tried the heating option yet, but hope it will function just as effectively. Also very pleased to work with Sylvane; great information on the website and very good company to work with.

Whynter ARC-14S is a great product.
I have been using Portable Air-Conditioner for over 5 years. I did a lot of research before buying this unit to replace the old unit which is not really giving cool air anymore. I just received the unit yesterday (one day of use) and I can tell the big difference in noise, cold air and product design.

1. You can really feel the air output is cold.
2. The design is very nice.
3. I checked the power consumption (with Kill A Watt gadget) and it shows up as 120V and 1080 watts.
4. I like the Dual Hose Design as it does Not use room air to cool the compressor (which I read from online reviews, as such the room will Not lose cool air and also not be affected with Negative air flow)
5. The location on the Unit to fix the 2 hoses is just right (back mid section) which is about 4 inches from the bottom edge of the window (New York City Apartment). I only need about 20 inches of hose. I think the shorter the hose used is good.
6. Unit has 3 modes - Fan, Cooling Mode and Dehumidify modes. That means that I can use the unit 3 seasons in a year, from Spring to Fall.
Spring and Fall - for Dehumidify Mode
Summer - for Cooling Mode
**I will not use the Whynter ARC-14S as a Fan. I will still use a Box Fan as I want to get maximum life span out of the Whynter ARC-14S fan for dehumidify and cooling modes.
7. It has 3 fan speed modes which is great as I can set to Low Fan with Cooling Mode during night sleeping hours when the night temperature is not too high.
8. The unit is not as heavy as I read on many online reviews.
9. The Product is very well packed. I have bought more expensive stuff from more established large companies and none of them packed their products like Whynter.
10. The control panel display on unit is quite bright. Just paste a Post-It Note over it and problem solved.
11. The remote control is good and easy to operate. Just a matter of getting used to the icons/signs (as there are no words). I think I will use the Remote Control instead of the control panels (on front of Unit), so I do not have to bend over to look at the buttons to press so I do Not press the wrong buttons.
12. This unit is very effective in cooling 2 rooms facing west where the Summer Heat can send the room temperature to as high as 93 (most summer afternoons).

A great price, great product, very fast shipping, very good packing.

This product takes up much more room than I expected, especially with the hoses attached, yet it does not provide much cooling power. For the money paid, I could have gotten a window unit that would have performed much better.

Installation was difficult and frustrating. I had to trim the window panel to make it fit my fairly standard-size window and then I had to tape all around it to fill the gaps that remained. It took me a good while to get the window panel in and hoses attached and then I was disappointed with how it performed.

Last fall, while trying to take heavy, awkward 10,000 BTU unit out of a narrow window frame with slight "carpal tunnel" numbness and loss-of-strength in hand.... A/C unit slipped out of my hands and onto holly bush below -- just missing the GAS METER by 2 inches.

That's when I decided to spend the winter researching PORTABLE A/C units and after a lot of research I decided on this unit....

Quieter than I thought it would be.... I keep all sun-facing shades closed and this unit keeps entire house comfortable at 75-degree setting. I'm sure that it would easily chill a smaller area, but I am using it to cover an area larger than "advertised specs".

Was fairly easy to install, but little more detailed "close-up" illustrations of how parts come together would have made installation even faster.

Holes on slider for windows should be closer to center, not right on edge... difficult to tighten screw when it is right up against window sill. Also -- include "plugs" for unused holes to keep out bugs... looks ugly with duct tape over unused holes.

Overall, I'm very pleased with performance and will likely get another unit to cool upstairs room which does not get used at all because of heat and difficulty of installing traditional window A/C unit. Have not yet received ELECTRIC BILL to comment on energy use compared to last year.

My home office with large windows used to reach 85-90 degrees in the afternoon sun, but this AC quickly cools it as low as I want. Hanging a window unit out the front of my home was not an option, but this solution is not too noticeable from outside. Sound level is what I'd expect from an air conditioner--not much different than a window unit--and it makes a nice white noise generator. Looks nice. Remote is handy. Seems well built for what it is. My only regret is not buying this sooner, before spending $500 on blinds and $600 on high-performance window film ;-)

The unit is very compact and very quiet. The duel air hoses have helped it keep up w/the 90+ degree heat we have been experiencing. I am very pleased with the unit.
