Wow, this humidifier is amazing! We put it in our basement as soon as it arrived. After 27 years in our home, we had water in our basement for the first (and hopefully only) time. Rugs were torn up and thrown out, and wallboard cut up to 1 foot as a result of action from the wet rug. And mold had started almost immediately, with the characteristic musty odor even after the water remediation was completed with fans, dehumidifiers and an air scrubber(aka Heppa filter), all industrial grade.

Even though this was a finished basement, it always smelled like a basement. Musty. We never expected our dehumidifier would remove the smell and so quickly too.

We don't have a sump pump yet -- never needed one (will be getting one installed soon.) We plan to hook our unit up to the sump pump once it is installed using the internal humidifier pump to get rid of the water extraction directly to the sump pump. Nevertheless, since the humidifier has 3 means of water extraction (bucket, gravity and pump), we can use it immediately with the bucket (and love the auto shut off in case it fills before we empty it.) Later, we will hook up the enclosed hose to the sump. The cycle feature is another nice touch, turning the unit on and off as needed.

My wife is very sensitive to sounds and odors, yet she finds it very quiet while operating, and remarked how fresh and clean the air now feels to her a plus she loves the design as well. She recently purchased a heppa filter for the bedroom, yet finds this dehumidifier makes her feel much better and now is considering a second unit for the bedroom.

I would not recommend the Winix 70-Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871). I purchased this unit for the first floor of my home. Shortly after the one-year warranty expired the fan motor started making a noise as if the bearings were going bad. Over the next several months it got progressively louder so I called Winix. The Winix representative informed me that theses units are made in Korea, that they don't stock parts, and there was nothing that they could do. I would have thought a $400 unit would last more than just a couple of years. Its replacement will be from a vendor other than Winix!

The dehumidifier works wonderfully. I have it set up as a gravity drain to the side yard. We've had it turned on in Auto mode, and it has been working for four months now with no problems at all.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):

UNIT WORKS WELL DEHUMIDIFYING, BUT IS EXTREMELY NOISY. I GOT IT FOR MY OFFICE AND HAD TO RUN IT ONLY AT NIGHT AFTER I LEFT THE BUILDING DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE NOISE. IT STARTS OUT QUIET, BUT THEN THE COMPRESSOR RATTLES. SENT IT BACK TWO TIMES, BOTH UNITS SAME NOISE. COMPANY SAID IT WAS "NORMAL NOISE".

Very quickly dried out my 1600 square foot basement and improved air quality in basement and living area as it removed moisture from the duct work.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):

We use the Dehumidifier in a 1,600 square foot basement that felt damp and had a slight musty smell. After a month of use the basement felt much more comfortable with hardly any odor. It keeps the humidity at 55% and cycles on and off. It doesn't require any special attention since we drain it into the "sump." A good product.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):

This unit is very heavy and too noisy. I was told this would be a quiet model but it was not. Sliding out the resevoir to remove water was challenging and the pump removal method not as convenient as hoped for. It did remove a lot of water from the air but the buzzing noise off and on was a problem since we purchased it for our ranch style home and not a basement. It was even too loud to run at night for me.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):

This unit is in my basement. I have set the timer to run 6 HRs, turn off 6 HRs. and humidity at 35%. The water is being pumped into my AC unit drain which in turn is pumping into my slop sink in the laundry room. Since it is winter and there is less humidity I never hear the unit on. I did test it on continuous run. What a pleasure not to have to lift and empty the pan. Will have to wait till Spring to really test it out.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):

This dehumidifier works GREAT! I have noticed a huge difference from the one I replaced. It is noticeably less humid in my walk-out basement and there is NO ODOR whatsoever anymore! While I wouldn't consider the unit "quiet", the noise isn't horrible (hence the 4 star rating). It's is a small price to pay to have this space comfortable, clean and fresh smelling! Highly recommended.

Made our 230 year old basement dry out in a day!Be prepared to move a lot of water constantly if you don`t drain into a plumbing line!It will fill a large wheeled recyling bin in a week!Uses a bit more energy (energy star and all)than I was hoping but the cost is worth it!My unit is directly above the basement and no longer feels like a sauna!

I've had this unit for about 7 months. I live in Maryland. I use this in my finished basement. The basement used to be a bit humid, but once the unit was utilized, the basement humidity level was easily kept at 45 percent.
