Portable Air Conditioners for Sliding Glass Windows and Doors
When traditional sash windows are not available for venting a portable air conditioner, sliding glass windows or doors may be used. Although window brackets are most often installed horizontally at the bottom of a sash window, they can also be installed vertically to fit into sliding door and window openings. Some modifications to the mounting system may be required. The following portable AC units are recommended for sliding door/window applications. Sliding Windows
For this application, it is important to measure the height of the sliding window and be sure that the mounting bracket will extend far enough to fit that opening. Units that include “double window” brackets are particularly useful here. They include both a standard bracket and also an additional filler bracket. If the bracket included will not extend to the full height of the opening, you may need to fill extra space with wood, foam insulation, or some other material.
Sliding Doors
Because typical bracket systems are intended for window use, many mounting brackets will not be long enough to fill the long vertical space of a sliding-glass door. In this case, the window bracket included can be installed to hold the exhaust hose(s) and then extra space can be filled with wood, insulation, or some other filler.
